“A conversation with Federico” should be a segment on your channel good job guys.
My most vintage watch is a ZIM 2602 from the 60s made in USSR. I recently paid a watchmaker to replace the crystal have the case cleaned and got a donor watch with the same movement to replace the movement, because the original movement was shot since it was used non stop for over 40 years. This watch is special to me because it was worn by my great grand father who is a red army WW2 veteran.
Credit to you Federico for sending others to his page at the end of the video rather than both posting the same content ...all enjoyable content for sure.
Fed, I'm still recovering from a $315,000 Rolex Daytona. What madness!
The clue was when he said "so what if it drops another 10% in a year - that is the cost of ownership". So maybe best to hang on for 12 months before you buy that grail.....
I could listen to both of you for an hour easily. Looking forward to your next collab together.
Two of the best - no flex, no BS - just watch talk
I have around 400 watches in my collection. All types and price points. My favorite is a 1960s Bulova that was my Dad's. Nothing fancy but holds dear memories. 😊
Memories are everything to me.
Is that the infamous Hodinkee travel clock I spy? Wasn't aware anyone actually had one.
that clock is prolly worth bank $$$
Terrific segment! Entertaining, compelling and informative. I like your (both) acknowledgement that we will likely lose money on a personal watch when parting. It’s the fun tax that we pay for our obsessions! Cars, guitars, watches, whatever. I bought a new JLC Master Control limited edition and within a year realized I couldn’t enjoy the remarkable but tiny complications. I took the sale proceeds and bought vintage and am much happier and yes, $$$ lighter. 😊
Fan of 70s hamilton and omegas. Really fun shapes
Frederico tells the truth! Love the honesty and it’s gold. Thanks
Let me explain. Many prices are holding in prices not because they have stabilized . The fact is that most do not wish to buy at the current prices . However, dealers are just holding out hoping for better days . Tbh , my friends and I represent the first group and we have zero incentive to buy watches right now till it drops at least 20 % . We also know some dealers will burst in 2024 , and we are waiting for it unfortunately
As always, Fed, very informative!
Great video, Fed, thanks very much to you and Adam, keep them coming.
So glad to see you guys link up on video! Baller watches for the occasion too
Watches .
and all they take about is money !
we ENJOY your market updates Fed... keep em coming!!!!
This is great. More of these please
Loooooved this episode!!!!!
Excellent. this should be a monthly show.
Thanks guys, enjoyed the video, please do again. Lighting for the video was relaxing to watch.
enjoyed this new format. I think the watch market will follow the economy.
AP 15202st is down 50% from the top. Same with Patek 5711. Same with Daytona. Same with GP Laureato. Same with the Overseas. 50% is one helluva correction.
Good video
Fantastic content, guys!!! I always look forward to hearing what you have to say, Fed. This was a great 2 for 1.
Great video 👏
Sellers are just holding for now but pieces don’t move as fast as they used to. I would rather see a further correction, how low is the question 🤷♂️
Whether $315,00 or $40,000 it doesn't matter. Both are waaay out of reach for me. Power on boys!
Love this fed+ knowledgeable dude video. I also love fed talking to me, but this was super fun.
Love Adam. I guess every watch CZcamsr knows each other.
This could be a very good podcast.
I see a HODINKEE travel clock on the table…did the market price drop on that as well?
Any thoughts on pre moon speedmasters?
i agree , i agree , i liked and s..👍👍
Big like!!
you guyssaid it there, if you really like that one watch buy it no matter what
Might be an “expert” but I guarantee he’s sold some Frankensteins without knowing
Adam is to be taken very seriously in the vintage world
Enjoyed that Fed and as a watch nerd I can really appreciate vintage. However, would I want to own one? Hmmm just don’t think I would really as most are a little too small and there are not that many I really like. Guess I’m a modern guy and as such would prefer a vintage take on a modern watch like Longines for example.
Breitling have one the great chronograph collectors in their ranks with Fred Mandelbaum if they get him involved it will be a home run.
I actually find alot vintage designs more appealing with a few brands. I don't have pieces extremely old but I have a Heuer Coral 980 026 Monnin, Heuer 272.006 Albino dial and a Heuer 981.006 Monnin JUMBO case from the early 80s. You definitely need to know your stuff when it comes to vintage Alot of redials and parts swapping going on. Just some things to look for if your a stickler for originality. Which I am
1970s Rados are very underrated. I have an original 74 Cobra NCC404 gifted new to me then. Killer design and runs wonderfully.
This should be an hour segment
Menta Watches, at mental prices
Interesting conversation. However, I'm totally distracted with the Hodinkee Travel Clock. Did Adam pay retail for that?
It’s talks like these that make me feel less guilty about spending a few grand on new pieces.
Man, the "Watch Afficionados" only deal in Omega, Rolex, AP and PAtek. There's so much more to the world of watches, but people got on this hobby for money, not for love of horogoly.
I have thought Rolex prices and demand would fall quite dramatically in response to the price hiking. I also believe these 10-20% per year price increases by other brands is not a smart move as it seems to be turning people away from purchasing. Interesting chat.
If i was to by a watch it would be forever and if i could afford one it would be the VC american
OK, is no one going to mention the (gray) elephant in the room?!?!?!?!
Why is that unholy Hodinkee Travel Clock doing front and center in both of your videos.
A copy of the Le Coultre travel clock that normally costs $80, recreated by Hodinkee for a mere $5,900.
A clock that inspired so much hate that HOdinkee had to remove it from their website for awhile.
LOL
Next time you Gentlemen talk, please pour a nice Metaxa!!!
anyone who doesn't know mb&f is not a watch enthusiast
I think it's funny how people are celebrating the UG brand reboot before it's even released anything. Yeah vintage dealers are going to love it because it raises awareness of the brand which raises the value of UG inventory. However, I won't get excited about new releases until we see what they are. Anyone can make a copy of a Nina or Polerouter (and some have). Breitling being able to put UG branding on their Nina or Polerouter copy is not all that exciting to me. Now if they resurrect some long defunct design or innovation that is tied to the UG brand or come up with something new and different worthy of the UG name, THAT would be something worth celebrating. But I was also pretty "meh" about the IWC Ingenieur revival, so maybe I'm the one who doesn't get it.
Breaking news they are going to take bigger hit. Wait when the greatest depression hits although I think it will be a short one but many businesses will go bankrupt
Paul Newman - good looking guy, dull and boring looking watch. Almost the definition of 'hype'.
350k for a junky Daytona
And he's just adding extra wear and tear on it.
1st
Vintage=Frankenstein..... no thanks
Not in all cases.
Just ask Adam Levin.
Yup, I knew people who specifically made these Daytonas with gen pushers, crystal, bracelets, and used the Coronet off a DJ on the dial.
The movements were generic valjoux too with a custom bridge which you could buy. Unless it had a complete provenance I would never buy this Daytona.
It’s a shame that you think that (if you really do). For sure you need to do your research, but vintage offers so much more variety, history and beauty than modern. I own a couple of vintage pieces and just to provide a balanced view, I must admit that they certainly aren’t as tough as modern. Servicing and parts has been expensive (much more than the watches themselves).
It's a territory for people who know what they're doing. Those who don't want to do their homework should certainly stay away. There's nothing more boring than contemporary watches. Besides that, not like vintage, there's tons of them available/produced.
