    Price. Cartier were relatively affordable. Now they priced themselves against the likes of Rolex and Omega. They should decrease the price of the ones with quartz movements to make them more affordable like it was back in the days

    Cartier: alot of ladies' watches are gifted. Unless it's vintage or unique, it's hard to gift a pre-owned (used) product to show how much she means to you. "I love you enough to give you sloppy seconds."
    Doesn't make financial sense. it's more emotional than logical.

Women don't really have the same attitude towards money as men, as they so often get money for free so to speak as they get these things gifted. @@Weedandwatches Well I was not talking about your wide specifically but women in general. And women in general as not like lots of men is with a general interest in watches from a mechanical point of view, but see them as something more than just a shiny object bought new in a shop. So your wife don’t like to buy second hand because they are scratched? Well when stephe buy a new watch from a shop and wear it it will have scratches on pretty soon, so she will have to buy a new watch every month or so to keep up appearances. Personally I don’t see the point at all as I buy the watch second hand, it might have some small hairline scratches but not worse than I would make myself. I think about the resale value, something very few women actually think about. That’s one of the reasons why men are generally richer than women, because men (generally) look at this before you buy something, and compare with what the resale value will be in 5-10 years, if you do that second hand will win nearly every time, well unless you can get hold of a Rolex or similar for retail prices.

    I enjoy this channel, and love the different watches. That said, I find a lot of the different brands are insanely overpriced for a piece of jewelry that tells time. I have a Marvin M119.13.38.64 that is absolutely beautiful, keeps great time and cost me new, just over $600. I have a Revue Thommen diver bought new that is rated 300 meters with a great burnt brown face. Power reserve, accuracy, water resistance are all great, again about $600. I own a Cartier Santos bought 20 years ago, a Corum Legend and Breitling World Timer too. All said, you do not have to spend a ton to get a beautiful Swiss made watch for too much money. After $5000.00 you are just trying to impress others in my opinion.

      Manufacturers are chasing sales, so they chase whatever is trending, and for a while they were bronzing everything, to see what people might buy. They'll stick a GMT hand onto any watch, for the same reason, whether or not it makes sense. (Federico's Piaget chrono is a case in point.😏)
      Bronze looks good with some watches, but not all. The Longines Legend Diver bronze is **chef's kiss**, but there's not a single Tudor that benefits from being wrapped in bronze, and I'm pretty sure the sales figures bear that out.

    Bronze gets a bad rap in part because the patina can look dreadful. I've owned the Tudor BB Bronze Boutique Edition for several years and it looks clean and killer. Why? Because I take time to polish it with a jeweler's cloth and do an occasional effervescent dental tab bath. The result is no patina. The watch resembles a soft rose gold. I love it. One of the best values around.

    • @gerardanthony9834
      @gerardanthony9834 Před 4 měsíci

      Sigh. Bronze can leave a patina because of skin moisture and/or acids reacting to the copper alloy in bronze. Same as any copper or bronze jewelry. It's harmless unless you're inhaling its dust. Tudor uses a non-bronze alloy under the case where it touches the wrist. Instead of copper and tin as a traditional bronze alloy, Tudor replaces tin with aluminum and this alloy is typically used by the marine and aviation industries because of its corrosion resistance. No patina on skin. It's not difficult to get facts straight. @@albertmeyer8983

    I would buy a second hand Cartier watch for myself, but like most women, I would expect a new one as a gift. I like the convenience of quartz in Cartier watches. I had an automatic Santos, and it would always stop over night when I would take it off even if I wound it before going to bed. Cartier couldn’t fix it. The only automatic watch I have now is a Rolex.

      Yes I agree. I feel like we are I. The minority. Quartz all the way for me. I sold my Rolex didn’t care for it. I’m not wearing 10,000 on my wrist either

  • @watchchimp3102

    Cartier? Valid points! But, also many of their watches are quartz and many enthusiasts really don't buy quartz. Even that might be OK if those quartz watches were substantially cheaper, but the price difference is minimal. $3k for a smallish solar dress watch in steel? No thanks 😊

    • @katemiller7874
      @katemiller7874 Před 3 měsíci

      I noticed that they seem to dislike quartz. I love it. I don’t have to wind it.

      @@katemiller7874Yeah, but batteries gotta be changed and they always seem to die at the worst time! It's Ok if you only have a few watches, but if you have many watches the battery powered ones are always the ones that don't work. Whereas the mechanical watches? Pull'em out of the box, set the time, give'em a little wind, and strap'em on! No problem!

    I think the Tag Heuer Autavia looks much better in bronze than stainless steel. I have one with the brown dial and love it. I'd be tempted to check out the Oris Big Crown Pointer Date in all bronze, including bracelet. Might turn my whole arm green. But that's about it.
    Except for some versions of the Santos, I think Cartier is a tough sell for men's watches. And it wouldn't be at the top of my list to consider for the price. Met a guy wearing a Ballon Bleu de Cartier watch once. It was a nice watch, and I admire the choice as being unique, but that look wouldn't work for me.

    Cartier is very expensive today for a new model,who want to pay so much for a quartz watch? In secondary market you can find a pasha steel at 2200$ or with gold bezel power reserve at 3500 or santos steel gold at 4600 so the newesr are realy more expensive and people prefere invest in rolex at this price
