  • The Bob Semple Tank. A legend known worldwide for its seemingly laughable quality, but was it really as bad as it seems at first glance? Put one of these down in a game of Bolt Action and watch your opponent panic trying to find a way to flank six Bren guns!
    The STL for this resin print is available here: www.wargaming3... You can also find 1:100 scale STLs for the Bob Semple on Thingiverse fairly easily, though their detail might not scale up as easily.

    BOLT ACTION RULES:
    Bob Semple Tank (Armored Tractor 7+)
    Weapons: 6 LMGs - One left, one right, one rear-facing, two front-facing, and one turret-mounted.
    Special Rules:
    Unreliable: Whenever a Bob Semple tank takes a pin from enemy fire, it automatically suffers a second pin in addition.
    Slow: Only advances 6" and moves at 12" run rate.
    Busy Fighting Compartment: The Bob Semple tank can fire a maximum of two hull-mounted LMGs when it fires. The turret is unaffected by this rule.
    Regular: 50pts, Inexperienced: 40pts
    Naturally, be sure and double-check with your opponent if they're happy to play with these rules! These are made using the Bolt Action Vehicle Design System; not an official document, but easily found online and accurate to the points values of vehicles given in-game.

    You could also import this absolute beast into your WH40K Ork army. Lotsa dakka, lotsa Orky know-wots. The only alteration you'd need would be to paint it red and have a grot head or two sticking out of hatches.

    Because of the square corrugated shape it was nicknamed Semple's septic tank. Its an odd design for a Kiwi tank as it isn't held together with some number 8 wire.

    I think the Bob Semple tank would have made a great anti banzai bunker! Nippon was so behind in tank tech and production. For example all the really poo tanks left over from the desert conflict were still viable in the Far East theatre. The Lee and Grant could still do their bit! Hats off to Semple and thank goodness it was never needed to be tested.

    I think this was one of your best vehicle painting tutorials. In the end the vehicle had a nice muted look to the camouflage and this gave it a realistic appearance. Next should be a Kiwi Valentine tank. Thanks for sharing this tutorial and I learned some new techniques from this.

    You know, the more I think of it, the more I think this was brilliant! Better to do something than nothing. And as a mobile MG platform….Better than nothing and it would have had some “shock and awe” factor when the JIA first bumped into it. Especially as they were light infantry. It would have been an issue for them to deal with. So you know…by tank standards it’s a joke…but as an improvised Infantry Fighting Vehicle…I think it would have done okay! Cheers 🍻

    • @SonicSledgehammerStudio
      @SonicSledgehammerStudio  Před 2 lety +3

      It would likely have been attached to the Divisional Cavalry, since I doubt there'd have been enough of them to warrant calling them a tank brigade, and with just four universal carriers in NZ early on, they'd have made quite a difference in firepower! Anything along those lines would probably be fairly close, but I doubt they'd have bothered marking them if the superstructures were intended to be temporary conversions to the tractor units.
