    That chest piece is definitely the best colonial marine camo I've seen done, great work as always

      Thanks a ton! I wasn't quite sure I'd gotten it, but after the shade... whew. I wish I'd found some suitable shoulder pads to really bulk him out!

    Most excellent. I would be proud to stomp (unfriendly) bugs with that fellow. Friendly bugs are ok. Cheers!

    I used this as a starting point to paint some Colonial Marines. I did two substitutions that worked out quite well.
    I used VMC Russian Uniform for the armor but VMC US Dark Green could also work well, I was conflicted about which to use and I had no Death Korps Drab. Of all things VMC Japanese uniform WWII 70.923 worked great for that vomit brown color on the camouflage uniform instead of baneblade brown. It gets pretty close to movie accurate once the agrax hits it.
    Yours looks like a more effective camouflage though 😂. Great videos, keep them coming.

    "a little patience, and they will come out in resin" ok ok fine I'll stop moaning 🤣 I know I say about 3D printers all the time. Also the freehand work on the card in his helmet is *chefs kiss*

      @SonicSledgehammerStudio  Před 2 lety +1

      I'll be honest, the heart shape turning out like it did was mostly luck! I happened to lightly tap the tip of my brush where I wanted the mark and the tip split just far enough to give me exactly what I needed - didn't go near it again after that! 😂

  • @TashiMortier

    It's really nice to be able to see you draw camo patterns. I really need to get back to it, I'm just so intimidated by stuff... haha. Stupid brain, listen to yourself think! We'll not get better if we don't try!

    Did I come here because I was wanting to find a nice, almost khaki green for my Catachan that I couldn't seem to find in the Citadel or Vallejo ranges? You bet I did. Was I provided with the good stuff from Sledge? Absolutely.

      Combat Fatigues is one of those colours that looks deceptively plain, and then you shade it... and the magic happens!

    Don’t worry they don’t need armor. They have plot armor. All you need in the e 80’s.

    Nice. Another Glorious Day in the Corp is a fun game. The camo looks great. I followed your tutorial for oak leaf camo to paint up a cloak on a bounty hunter for This Is Not A Test. He has a WWII-style helmet with optics and a bolt action rifle. The camo really adds to the character. One of my favorite characters for my Peacekeeper warband.

    I've been waiting to see what you were gonna do with these guys and I wasn't disappointed. His forearm looks strange though. Almost like his arm is made of rubber and its been twisted around. Love the fatigues though! Keep up the good work!

    @theandf Před 2 lety +1

    Nice Colonial Marine! About the only thing I dislike is his arms, way too muscled and oversized. The Marines from Aliens aren't this muscled, they are Vietnam-style troopers. I'd like toned down arms, other than that: perfect!

  • @Glasmn45
    @Glasmn45 Před 2 lety +1

    Thank you for another great video sir. I love the camo detail but I'm not a fan of the mini sculpt. It seems like whoever sculpted it had questionable knowledge of human musculature. :( Positively live for your videos. They have taught me a lot!

    • @SonicSledgehammerStudio
      @SonicSledgehammerStudio  Před 2 lety

      I kinda like the slightly janky arm, but I might not be a reliable source - I did use to have a plastic Catachan army, after all. XD

    • @marcoantoniosalazarmatamor9496
      @marcoantoniosalazarmatamor9496 Před 2 lety +1

      Well, if they are “jungle fighters”, I guess their inspiration is at least partially the Catachan soldiers of 40K, who are all gigantic slabs of beef like a caricature of Arnold Schwarzenegger (only bigger soldiers available as Guard figures are the Ogryns).
      Those are just as questionable. the “caricature” part is important.

    "Hey Vasquez,..."
    Honestly, it's a cool miniature, but some of the muscles in the forearm look a bit weird... (And I mean in the sculpt itself, not your painting)

  • @stephenpfiester2749
    @stephenpfiester2749 Před 2 lety +1

    Hey I’m loving these anvil industries tutorials, what settings on your printer do you use for layers and the like? The detail is amazing.

    • @SonicSledgehammerStudio
      @SonicSledgehammerStudio  Před 2 lety

      This was 40 microns, 2.6s exposure time, 45mm/s lift speed. I'm usually a little reluctant to share print settings since they can be so specific to each machine or room setup.

  • @alessiodecarolis
    @alessiodecarolis Před 2 lety +1

    These figures are really interesting, pity for the helmets, a little too old for sci-fi soldiers, but the painting is excellent, normally I use a wash of gore red VERY diluited for skin tones, as final touch, it's an old trick I read on an old White Dwarf

    • @theandf
      @theandf Před 2 lety

      The USCM from Aliens used tweaked Vietnam-era helmets, which I like.
