    The camo scheme for the pants immediately made me think of the camo from MW2's Spetsnaz. Very well timed upload, this, since I've still got a few kommandos left to do from the Octarius box myself.

      CoD is probably a pretty good source of material for these guys. A lot of that 'adjacent to reality' look would work really well, I think.

      @@SonicSledgehammerStudio That's a great idea! I've been painting up my IG vehicles with a WW1 inspired camouflage, so outdated camo patterns like the old dazzle camo they would use for warships during the World Wars could make for good Ork camo references too, plus it looks very distinct with the hard lines and things that turned out to be exactly what you don't want camo to include.

    As soon as GW deigns to release the new Orks seperately I am totally using this tutorial! So helpful, I've been painting Orks for close to 10 years now and this is by far the best looking scheme I've come across, brilliant work!

    Well, since orks believe that purple is the sneakiest (citation needed), it would be fun to paint it with purple skin or at least purple gear, or a purple wash to leave just that hint..

    Hi. Really enjoyed this one. Funnily enough my friend has just acquired some 90s gorkamorkas orcs, so he is stripping and re-painting them. I've shared this tutorial with him. So again you have made someone's day with your fantastic tutorials and helped us out. I like the fact that you not only show brilliantly simple techniques, but also background information regarding the characters you're painting. Look forward to the next one. Thank you. Kind regards Ian.

    • @SonicSledgehammerStudio
      @SonicSledgehammerStudio  Před 2 lety +1

      Now those are some classics! I remember Gorkamorka fondly, including the rule about transport capacity on trukks being however many miniatures you could cram on to them without them falling off when you moved it... 😂 They don't write games like that any more!

      @@SonicSledgehammerStudio Hello, we were discussing the fact about how many of them you can cram onto a vehicle, as the original bases were oval in shape to accommodate the Jenga type stacking. I like your rationale behind the colours you chose! I never actually thought about making Kommandos slightly paler because they technically fought less; I used to do them in a similar way to my main Boyz, but I started from a brown base instead of the usual darker green; it helped with the feel of covering themselves in dirt for camo.
    And I actually ran Blood Axes as a whole - I loved coming up with camo patterns in ridiculous and garish colour schemes (including fluorescents sometimes)... while the Kommandos actually used sensible colours... 😜

  • @JZStudios2
    @JZStudios2 Před 2 lety +3

    Never knew that Orks had a way to indicate combat experience just by looking at their skin. That's actually something...I think is genius.
    I think I'll apply this to my Orks for Fantasy/AoS/KoW who I've decided to give a dark skin tone instead of the traditional green. Can easily make the Arrow units be lighter skin than their more dark skinned brethren who would always be in the front lines taking blows over and over again.

    • @SavageBehir
      @SavageBehir Před rokem

      @@LeVeLs404 I messed up most of the priming. It was patchy, in some places cracked and had a weird texture. So I stripped 9 out of 10 (the only one that was good got actually painted!) and now I'm waiting for the weather to be good enough for another attempt (and this time I'll follow tips like warming up the can for a bit - as room temperature didn't seem to be enough). The only good thing out of the primer fiasco is that I stripped the paint from some miniatures for the first time - not all of it came off, but they are now smooth and look good enough to go through another round of Zandri Dust spray

    Marvelous job on your Ork commando. Two friendly suggestions......1. Drill out the gun barrel. 2. Backpack needs work. Different color straps. A heavier dark wash. And darken the hole where the rip is located. Keep up the good work.

    I'm always worried about using bright layer colors when I paint, but based on this it seems like I could get that right saturation with a little tweaking of the thickness of the wash. Is that sort of right? I'm pretty limited on paints as-is--just working with primary colors, a few browns, and a few grayscales--so unfortunately Ork Sauce isn't on the menu, but do you have any suggestions for getting something like the initially-bright red pants to blend better with an otherwise more earthy color scheme?
