Who's camera lady? Is Rhys really there? What's up with Phoebe and Adam and why should I care? Why are all these people boring?

This is the best season lol. How can you be so blind? Watch First episode several times and you will see its genius. If you watch it more times, you will even find out what really is happening.
Its genius with many hints. And by hint i dont mean stupid rhy theories out there.
Joe dude is beeing framed by twisted Psycho.
Lady Phoebe at the party she always comes back to Joe to ask more question but everytime she knows more about him before he can answer. So each time she goes away and comes back she obviously only talked and asked about Jonathan in fron of others.
She even know his name before he can answer.
She the one who gave him several drinks 3x fucking times!
She the one obssesed with her.
Kate roberry. Of course its planed from the killer or side dude/chick who mocks and frames Joe. Nadia said: there are no coincidences.
And do you really want to tell me that Kate never saw Joe from this hugeeeeeeee windows at the appartment watching :D Its obvious she knew and she pleasuring herself in front of the big window.
Also Malcom dude proably had many many issues with women and thats why he said forget them they dont worth it they make life miserable and dangerous (not excact quote yes but kind of).
Then malcom lying dead on the table also a sign. So its a message. Everyone can see. Nobody noticed it? Not even Kate? Mysterious.
And here big genius hint. Whoever did this knew from the beginning who Joe is and just pretended dumb on the chat app like he finds out step by stept. Nonsense. Why?
      I tell you why.
Because he/she cut the finger off. She knew Joe is capable of getting rid off the body or cutting the body into pieces and burnin and not finding everything. So she cut that finger off. Not for the ring just for the prove of the body which will not exist anymore.
Also classic crime literature has one golden rule: Culprit is always introduced in the beginning and showing up. Either physically or beeing mentioned.
And look at the start of the first episode. Its YOU and not main characters but Nadia is the first person in the first 5 seconds of the start which is shown in the library.
She also mysteriously went to the office of malcom where by "coincidence" Joe was to find something. Very obvious.
But I think the clue is here with Nadia and Malcom:
Why kill someone? Motive? Sex, Money, Revenge.
There are 3 murderers or 2 who help the third real murderer without the real murderer not notcinig. Or all together. But i think they act independent.
Malcom bro Hardling got killed by 3 people by each 3 motives.
      Nadia, Phoebe, Kate
      Maybe Nadia Sex
      Maybe Kate Money
      Maybe Phoebe Revenge
Rhys just background decoy for viewers. He just takes advantage to make a hunt game for public show so he can hunt down publicy with the people on the streets and by already knowing who did what he has the guarantee to catch who deserves it and then claim vitcory and get elected and by the hero.
Also very blind of Joe. He sometimes thinks of Nadia but blends her out because he says "i have more important things to by finding YOU". Its in front of his eyes but he doesnt even consider it even when she says or acts not normal and to fishy.
He is beeing played by someone who thinks or really is more intelligent than him fooling with him and playing with him.
And Nadia is the one in class who always claims that she knows better, that she smarter, that she solves it all and that she only understands the real meaning of words and actions and her opinion is the only true.
She tries to be always right and always argue against everyone so she can have the last word.

During my medical degree, I worked with a few battered and traumatized women, and it's actually an unfortunate phenomenon. Women who haven't been protected in life may tend towards running to isolated, dark, small spaces for protection in the heat of the moment :/ it's counterintuitive, but our brains aren't always reasonable during a crisis.

the thing that i find ironically the most unbelievable about this season is that NO ONE recognizes joe?? i would imagine that a story about a filthy rich white woman going insane and killing her rich neighbors before baking her husband into a pie would be a worldwide true-crime phenomenon. just because he has a beard and dresses better doesnt make him unrecognizable. my guess would be that the photographer is american and recognizes him from the news, but cant figure out if its really him bc hes supposed to be dead. curious to see if that comes back in the second half

It’s literally his MO all over again, but now he has someone texting him on an app that conveniently auto-deletes the texts as soon as they’re read so he can’t prove that he’s even getting them? And the people who are getting killed are also having their body parts, that have jewelry on them, cut off conveniently after he watched Kate get mugged for her expensive watch.
And when Gemma died, I thought it was crazy convenient how it seemed to happen when he “slipped up” and got caught snooping in that one guy’s room, as if he was trying to establish an alibi for himself.

It's a theory, but i also think a part of new formula is that Marienne rejecting Joe and getting away from him, makes her the only girl who did it successfully, therefore that event could have triggered Joe to become a better person, not to be obsessed over a girl anymore and everything else. However what is truly happening, is Joe created that Rhys personality in himself who still kills all these rich people due to his obsession with Kate. So Joe is still the same Joe we know, the difference this time is that he doesn't accept himself for who he actually is unlike the previous seasons.

I think this definitely depends on how you like to watch shows
I don't really care if the characters I enjoy are evil people as long as they're fun to watch and interesting to analyze. One of my favorite characters in A:TLA is Azula. One of my favorite characters in Genshin is Dottore. I don't simp for either of them (stop, Azula is 14) I just like that they're a perspective so far removed from my own that it's mentally stimulating to try and understand them
I have a huge amount of empathy, so I usually like characters that are very selfish and don't have any empathy, as long as they're written to not be a comical evil and are still written to be something that could exist (I don't like canon Ozai at all. I have so many HC about him that give him basic depth and I like that version)
I would also like to draw the line between a bad person and a bad character. A bad person is about morality and hurting others. A bad character is about writing flaws, lack of substance, etc. (The definition of a bad character definitely depends on what your story is trying to accomplish. Very simple characters have their place) Someone can be a good person but a bad character. (for example, a Mary Sue) Someone can be a bad person but a good character. (For example, Azula)
For this season, it seems to be bad characters and bad people

  • @allypower3637
    @allypower3637 Před rokem +284

I genuinely think a lot of this season is just going on in Joe's head. At first I did believe that Rhys was the actual killer, that Joe was just being stalked by him and maybe he actually was trying to turn his life around due to his fixation on Marianne. Even after becoming a bit obsessed with Kate, Joe was still referring to Marianne as the "you" of the season in the first episode, so I figured the season would be about him trying to prove his innocence, find this stalker, and eventually end up with Marianne.
However, after seeing a lot of these theories online, I do believe that most of what we've seen this season is all in Joe's head. I think Rhys is a real person who is an acquaintance of the rich friend group, but does not actually like any of them all that much and is much more open about his dislike for them than the rest of them are (ie they're all catty about it), which is why he didn't show up to the mansion party. But I think he actually has not been present at all in the show. Like Amanda said, all of his scenes have been with Joe and no one else has acknowledged him besides the mansion party when it's mentioned that he refused to go. I think that Joe did meet Rhys at the bar in episode one, and then made yet another ideal version of Rhys (the same way he did with Beck and Love), but this time the ideal version was the murderer who was trying to frame Joe so that Joe could believe he was changing and that he's an innocent man.
I also genuinely think that Joe did kill Marianne. For the past three seasons, Joe has proven that if the woman he's obsessed with does not turn out to fit the fantasy he has in his head about them, that he'll kill them. Love even said it best last season, "If I'm not good enough for you, you'll kill me", and then he did. I think that Joe let Marianne go, letting her think that he wasn't going to hurt her and that he did actually want to change in hopes of winning Marianne back, but then he snapped after she was gone and went after her to kill her. I think that's why he actually has her necklace, because he took yet another souvenir after killing another woman who didn't meet his expectations.
I think the season is going to end with Joe realizing all of this and he's going to snap worse than he has before, potentially leading to a series finale where he's finally taken down maybe? (I'm not sure if You has been picked up for a season five but I hope they haven't cause I do think it's time to end the show now)

I think the only time they actually met was in the nightclub before Joe got blackout drunk. Then Ryhs actually went to Germany and didn't come back for a while. Also in the dinner table, when Rhys asked if Joe was ok and Joe replied, everyone stopped talking, and Phoebe's boyfriend asked him about it. Almost like he was talking to himself.

The problem with this after season 1 is this is now Dexter. This show should have been a one season drop the mic thing as it told a very specific story about a sociopath who wooed a girl he was stalking, then killed her. The season followed the book and if there was ever a show that should have been a single season, it was this one.
People have said it has not been great since and that really is the reason. Joe obsessing over some new woman took away from the home run first season and what made it special. And frankly the plot twists of the last couple years (oof a woman just like him and now a murder couple!) have been much more unbelievable and campy in its premise.

I mean clearly Nadia is just there as Joe’s new “kid” to have a soft spot for, but it would just be a great twist. Like maybe she killed Malcolm in a rage because he wanted to stop seeing her, as she was simply a toy for him to play with. Then, she continued to kill the rest of his friend group because they’re all the same, they only see people outside of the friend group as people that are “below” them, to be used for their enjoyment.

Me too! It makes so much sense and is way more interesting than Rhys being the killer or a figment of Joe's imagination. The writers even alluded to this possibility.
The person following Joe has brown shoulder-length hair just like Nadia. She was having an affair with Malcolm and was caught snooping around his apartment. I thought her asking Joe to retrieve the letter was to set him up. Also, during one of the class discussions, right before Joe received a text from his stalker, Nadia was seen fake coughing and dipping into her backpack to quickly text something on her phone.
I can see an angle where, as a literary student and crime enthusiast, Nadia read Beck's work, researched the case and following events then recognized Joe and decided to seek her own form of justice.

Interesting video idea: remove the inner monologues from You (especially the latter seasons like 3 and 4) where other people are talking to Joe and he just stands there in silence (narrating to the audience, but the people talking to him don’t hear anything) - just to see how truly awkward it is to have him stand there and not respond to what they are saying Lol.

  • @angelo423

I really hope Rhys is not fake, that whole "I didn't do it, but it turns I did do it but forgot/blacked out" is one of the most boring and reused "plot twists" in thriller and suspense in general, it makes everything that happened up to that point feel like a waste of time because it was only there to distract you from the twist in the first place. Also it wouldn't add anything new to Joe's character other than him wondering "oh no am I like bad bad?" which is just him being hypocritical about his killing like he has been from the first episode.
EDIT after watching part 2: fuck

But Joe never kills just because he doesn’t like someone, there’s always some bigger reason to ‘justify’ it so maybe I’ll be surprised and they’ll actually execute it well.

It makes sense because whenever Rhys is actually there he never interacts with anyone else, there's no evidence of the texts on his phone etc. It would make sense Joe sees himself in this guy and so creates an alterego.

They make a big point about nothing being a coincidance and there are a lot of those when it comes to Kate.
At the very beginning with the mugging and Joe coincidentally being there. Then even after Kate found out that Joe watches her theough the window, she still does not care and changes in front of it. Then later on Kate is the one that stops Roald (or what ever his name ist) from potentially shooting Joe. Then she is the one sitting in front of the dead girl. And in the end she is the one who finds Joe ans Roald in the bunker and saves them... idk.

I think he’s made up a lot of stuff in his mind and we are watching it as he narrates. Like that Rhy guy being the killer, I don’t think he’s the killer but he’s telling a story and painting him out to be the killer. A redemption story for Marrian.
The first episode starts with him talking about a story of redemption. In flashbacks he says he’s gonna prove to her he’s not a bad guy.
There’s a student he asks questions about a story and her answers are how the season plays out.
For example she says “the first suspect is the second victim” which happens.
Then she tells him “you need to be invested in this” and now he was stalking that one woman to protect her.
Even though he has an apartment window that looks into hers, etc.
I think he’s lying to himself and has gone off the deep end with the lies.
He has an interest in that woman (I forgot her name) but he has to give himself permission to stalk her like he does.
I think it will pay off in the second part. He will realize through illusions of Beck and Love that he made this narrative up and he’s the killer.
Who knows maybe he killed that woman in Paris and this whole story is a coping mechanism or something.
He does this every season, lying to himself to justify his actions.
    But this time is nuts

That way we can really see him try to manipulate the courts, fail at that, his fangirls he would inevitably have, and get raked over the coals for being a bad person. He thinks the verdict will be not guilty or at least like ten years or something and then he gets four life sentences with no chance of parole

I'm glad Amanda makes these videos about YOU because right from the beginning of S1, I was unapologetically watching the show purely to see Joe get his just desserts (as frustrated and as stupid as I thought Candice plan was, I really had hopes for her... only for her to, you know, die). And of course, that has not happned, and he has only gotten worse with each given season.
I only watched S3 for Love (because Victoria Pedretti and Love for me was a way more interesting character - Don't get me wrong, I still very much wanted her to face justice for her murders, but she was fun to watch) and when at the end of that season, Joe was still free and on the run, having still not faced any real consquences for his actions, I was 'yeah, I'm done'
So yeah, even hearing that Joe had a stalker in S4 - and that there really wasn't going to be a YOU/Emily in Paris crossover, which I definitely have been down to watch - I did not have high hopes (I will admit, I was hoping the stalker was going to turned out to be a somehow alive Love. Love turning up alive really wouldn't have been the weirdest thing to happen in this show) and listening to Amanda's review, I'm gonna stick with my original decision that I came to at the end S3, that I'm done, I'm good and I'll just wait for Amanda's review for S4P2
