The dumbest part is that the show has a knack for imbuing Joe with so much plot-relevant luck than Marienne's assumptions about how Joe might capable to talk his way out of Scotland's Yard are, well unfortunately, *correct.* In fact, Joe literwlly spent the first half of the season escaping to the police's scrutiny in spite being too dumb to escape to the rich folks'.

the biggest fumble to me was that they explained the fact that joe killed the ‘eat the rich’ victims for various stupid random reasons instead of going for the obvious “he killed them because they upset kate”.
I mean c’mon. joe’s whole things is he kills people for the girls he’s obsessed with. he could kill malcom because he fancied kate at that point and it could fit with his whole ‘subconscious’ thing. like subconsciously getting rid of competition. he could kill simon because simon was a shitty boss to kate. and then they literally had a scene where gemma was being obnoxious to the staff and Kate was rolling her eyes and looking disgusted, a less stable and subconscious joe could easily justify that kill to make kate happier.
I was so shocked when they didn’t go that angle, like idk if it’s because Rhys was technically Joe’s ‘You’ for the season, not Kate. but he was still into Kate and it would fit his MO, and tie into the end better .

    Someone explain this to me.
    1. When Roald pushed Joe out of the window, did Joe immediately get up to go kill Gemma and then go back to the bushes? Because I can't imagine getting tossed out of a window, getting up like nothing happened, killing someone, going back to lie in the bushes again and then waking up just as Kate screams upon finding the body.
    2. When Nadia loses her shit because the cage is missing and screaming about how she didn't know where the woman went. But a while later she tells Eddie that she saved Marienne's life. Was that whole thing just an act so Eddie wouldn't know she helped Marienne?
    3. When Roald and Joe was in the basement, who lit the place on fire? It shows Rhys kicking over the lantern, which I thought could be argued away as Joe doing it. But Joe is so far away from the lantern, there's no way he could have knocked it over, especially since he's chained up too. So how did the place catch on fire?

The problem with shows like this is that the writers feel like they need to up the stakes every season to keep the show fresh and interesting, but that also means things become more convoluted and less believable. The first season or two, they could get away with Joe being a stalker/murderer who maybe has a few close calls but is good at covering his tracks on a small scale. But this season and the last are just relying on so many coincidences and lucky chances, that it's not even interesting to watch anymore. Of course Joe happens to only dissociate/hallucinate when nobody else will notice. Of course the woman who seemed to be on to him is actually just a stalker herself and he therefore gets to be the hero. There are so many other moments that I'm not even going to mention, but my point is that by heightening the stakes and the scale, the show is really just losing it's tension, in my opinion.

Yeah, there was tons of videos and commentaries everywhere about this plot twist when the part 1 was out. Too many weird things happened, leading to this theory.
I also tickled when the American told him "What was that?" when Joe's said "I'm fine" to Rhys at the dinner, and I replayed the scene to wonder what the scenarist wanted to tell us at this moment. The whole plans of Rhys were too much luck based and so unlikely to happen, and the app installed on his phone made no sense either as Rhys had no idea he would get away with the murder in the 1rst place and then was surprised he got rid of the body.
The only thing that made me highly doubt this theory in the end was the fire in the cave, where Joe himself could have not escaped if Kate did not arrive in time to save him. So it was so stupid coming from him.
Also, it's very weird he was at the end of the table at dinner with an empty place beside him.

They could've had a really interesting storyline exploring Rhys as Joe's You this season but they fumbled. They still could've had Marienne in the cage, with Joe keeping her there so he can show her he can change just like Rhys did. He'd visit periodically to lament about how the London group (Simon et. al) were asses and deserve to die but he wasn't killing them because he'd changed. But as he gets more obsessed with Rhys and his redemption arc, he loses himself in this You relationship and slowly forgets to hold himself "accountable" to Marienne and this in turn lets him lose focus on remaining "good" until he falls back into old habits and starts killing again for Rhys' sake. But eventually he realizes Rhys fabricated some parts of his story and so that sends Joe into a spiral and he plans to abduct Rhys only to remember he still has Marienne in the cage but when he goes back to kill her, she's already escaped maybe with Nadia's help and there could've been a subplot of how Nadia and Marienne had been building a case this whole time that would expose Joe for the monster that he is and finally we get to see some comeuppance for Joe. Totally could've left out the allusion to DID. But what do I know? Nobody pays me to write movie scripts.

It's full circle coming back to New York and to be honest it will be a little fun watching Joe go full out for a few episodes without the need to try and make him redeeming. But that will only be entertaining for limited time and if the plan is to show Joe at his most dangerous then spend the the rest of the season taking him down, I'm 100% here for it. Bonus points if Ellie, Nadia, and Marienne go Charlie's Angels on him (won't happen, but a girl can dream). Just as long as he doesn't end up a lumberjack in the Canadian wilderness, I think it could still work. However, that said, if 5 isn't the penultimate ending, I think the drop off will be substantial.

as someone whos part of a dissociative identity disorder system, the portrayal of the whole "switching evil personalities" is just kinda insulting. I mean yeah, joe himself is evil, but DID is formed as a kid as a survival mechanism. systems aren't evil and won't hurt anyone but themselves, unless its a situation where their life is in danger. so the whole dr jekyll thing just kinda feels like a slap in the face like "oh look at this already highly stigmatised, very real disorder! we're going to make it seem scary or fun or something other people might want to have" when in reality, its sometimes hell on earth. flashbacks, hallucinations, missing chunks of time, trust issues, feeling isolated, and that's unfortunately the tip of the iceberg. even now, with most of our stuff figured out, i still find random injuries i didn't make, or i'll find myself in a dangerous situation out of nowhere, or i'll have very vivid and very real feeling flashbacks to childhood. honestly, media really should stop trying to glamourise or stigmatise DID, because it threatens real systems, and can make them believe they're fakeclaiming, even when they very obviously arent.

I think my biggest disappointment was Love confronting Joe and saying, "You won't do what needs to be done." And then his subconscious saying "You're not suicidal!" I WANTED the twist to be doing what needed to be done and not taking his life but turning himself in. Straight up going to the police and giving his real name and full list of victims. Ending the cycle by TELLING THE TRUTH. Nadia could even write a bestseller about her professor who ended up being a serial killer.
I'm HOPING that Joe just saying, "Nadia's not talking, smart." is him writing her off and she's actually in league with the government officials to take him down somehow. Because with a political canidate being killed, you would think there would be a top tier investigation.
