They're celebrating 10 years anniversary of the first album and also recently released a Gimme Chocolate!! challenge on social media.
This was the first "Babymetal Death" version with MomoMetal as an official member and it was a come back song after December 2017 iirc. They did Babymetal Death Shin Version at Budokan 2021 but it's a way different version.
Next month is coming Legend MM celebrating MomoMetal special birthday in Yokohama.
Btw don't miss out the live version at Legend 1997 in 2013, it's even more shocking and impactful if you didn't already.

No, this is thevtitle of the concert and the confused a lot of people. This song was Babymetals traditional Opening, but they couldn't play it with only two members. In April last year They founded the New Babymetal and they got Momo as their third member, so this was the first Opening sonce Yui left 2017. And the reason for this title is Babymetal Death sounds the same as Babymetal desu, and thats ehat zhey sing: I am Su Metal, I am Moa Metal, I am Momo Metal, We are Babymetal. And they are the International most successful japanese Band.

The crowd cheering... That is why I became a Babymetal fan. They - the girls then, young ladies now - have achieved boss-level mastery of crowd engagement and sheer control of their fan's reactions. We do not see that much anymore of charisma these days in the metal, rock and even pop scene .. save for Tay-Tay 😂😂😂

Great reaction. You are not wrong, the opening drum riff is paying homage to Metallica's 'One' ... but there is no DragonForce in this one - Herman Li and Sam Totman from DragonForce did do the guitar arrangements and played in the studio recording for BABYMETAL's song 'Road of Resistance'.
This video is celebrating the 10th anniversary of the launch of their first album, 'BABYMETAL Death' was the first song on the album. They had not played it live since 2017 because it is an intro song and they are introducing themselves by name, but they couldn't really use it with just two official members and the original third member Yuimetal didn't appear at all after October 2017 and officially announced she was leaving the band in October 2018.
This performance was on 2nd April 2023 - the first concert with Momometal as an official member, so 'BABYMETAL Death' was back ... I don't know if you heard the crowd cheer particularly loudly when she introduced herself as "Momometal desu".
The whole song is based on a pun. The English word death sounds to a Japanese speaker like the Japanese word desu (the U is silent) spoken with a slight lisp.
Desu means to be - as in I am, we are, it is etc. Basically the lyrics for this song are: "B_A_B_Y_M_E_T_A_L" ... "I am Su-metal", "I am Moametal", "I am Momometal" "We are BABYMETAL" ... "Death Death Death Death Death Death Death Death".
You got a hint of the sort of thing they do and the theatrics at the start of this performance when they play 'BABYMETAL Death' ... I don't think you saw it yet, but I suspect you would be blown away by the Legend 1997 performance where they were celebrating Su-metal's 16th birthday.
Being an introduction song they would normally play it right at the start of the concerts (it is a great way to get the crowd hyped and joining in straight away), but that was one of the special occasions where they played it later in the show - for that one it was the finale.

Take it a step farther. Not only does 'SU-METAL DESU' mean she's introducing herself, it's also her super-hero transformation phrase.
Like on Sailor Moon, Usagi says 'Moon Prism Power!' and turns into Sailor Moon, Suzuka Nakamoto shouts 'I AM SU-METAL' and becomes possessed by the spirit of the Fox God and transforms into the Metal Goddess SU-METAL.
The magical girl who transforms into a hero is a huge trope in Japan, comparable to Disney princesses in the west. BABYMETAL DEATH! follows the trope and it's the moment that they all transform into their magical alter egos at the start of the show.

Desu = I am/ We are. Say it with a lisp, and you have “Death”. Babymetal’s cute and metal way of introducing themselves.
For context:
2010: formation, Su, Moa, Yui.
2018: Yui leaves due to health.
2019: Momo and backup dancers rotates in 3rd spot.
2021: Babyemtal hiatus.
2023: Babymetal returns.
Apr 1st 2023: “Babymetal Begins” Black Night (Day 1) - Momo announced as official 3rd.
Apr 2nd 2023: Clear Night, Day 2 - 1st time we hear this song in ~6 years as encore intro, and 1st “Momometal Desu!”. Thus, crowd looses their sh*t. Lol.
And yes, Babymetal are huge Metallica fans so 100% a nod to One.

Legend 97 Babymetal Death live where they use this song to end the show,read the translation of the intro so you understand what is going on and hold on to your seat,while i like this version its the original Kami band playing at 97,forget that just watch the whole concert its astonishing a musical and theatrical masterpiece and they are just kids as well lol 🦊

Seen Su -Metal win over the ugliest crowd in the history of ugly crowds at Sonisphere 2014,55k official figures but more like 65k they got moved at the last minute on to the main stage in front of a UK metalhead crowd who had never heard of them 35 minutes later the crowd were shouting for more,they out sold everybody else in merch and had to get the gig in London moved to a larger venue due to sudden demand with threats of unrest from the general public to the city lol
Day i fell head first down the foxhole,if i had to compare Su to any other person i have seen with that kind of power over a crowd it would be the late great Freddy Mercury.
