    It is a show opener and I believe they are literally introducing themselves to the crowd. Could you imagine being there in person…

    They did an elaborate stage show for Babymetal Death at the Legend of 1997 Concert. It's the intro song on their debut album.

    Great reaction. This video was released to celebrate the 10th anniversary of their first album being released - 'BABYMETAL Death' was the first song on that first album.
    They had not played it live since 2017 because it is an intro song and they are introducing themselves by name, but they couldn't use it with just two official members and the original third member Yuimetal didn't appear at all after October 2017 and officially announced she was leaving the band in October 2018.
    This performance was on 2nd April 2023 - the first concert with Momometal as an official member, so 'BABYMETAL Death' was back ... I don't know if you heard the crowd cheer particularly loudly when she introduced herself as "Momometal desu".
    The whole song is based on a pun. The English word death sounds to a Japanese speaker like the Japanese word desu (the U is silent) spoken with a slight lisp.
    Desu means to be - as in I am, we are, it is etc. Basically the lyrics for this song are: "B_A_B_Y_M_E_T_A_L" ... "I am Su-metal", "I am Moametal", "I am Momometal" "We are BABYMETAL" ... "Death Death Death Death Death Death Death Death".
    You got a hint of the sort of thing they do and the theatrics at the start of this performance when they play 'BABYMETAL Death' ... I don't remember if you've seen the Legend 1997 performance where they were celebrating Su-metal's 16th birthday.
    Being an introduction song they would normally play it right at the start of the concerts (it is a great way to get the crowd hyped and joining in straight away), but that was one of the special occasions where they played it later in the show - for that one it was the finale.

    Not many bands can hype up the crowd like these young ladies

    Welcome back to the Foxhole.
    They're celebrating 10 years anniversary of the first album and also recently released a Gimme Chocolate!! challenge on social media. Yesterday and the day before they held a live show called Legend MM celebrating MomoMetal 21 birthday and this blaster intro was the opener as usual.
    This was the first "Babymetal Death" version with MomoMetal as an official member and it was a come back song after December 2017 iirc. They did Babymetal Death Shin Version at Budokan 2021 but it's a way different version.
    Btw don't miss out the live version at Legend 1997 in 2013, it's even more shocking and impactful if you didn't already.
    Anyway always remember that we are -NotACult- 🦊🤘💀

    Normally, the opening of a show way to hype the audience. They are saying Desu, meaning i am we are .
    This was 2nd from the last song on this night . It went into Ijime Dame Zettai as the closing song 👍😊

    Good one, thanks!
    "BABYMETAL Death" lyrics are quite simple: "B-A-B-Y-M-E-T-A-L" "SU-METAL desu", "MOAMETAL desu", "MOMOMETAL desu", "BABYMETAL desu" "Death death death death death death..." etc. The word "Desu" ,the U is silent so, mispronounced sounds like the English word death, pretty much means "I am, you are, we are". So, they are basically introducing themselves.
    It was used as a show opener until 2017 and they recovered it thanks to the addition of Momoko right in this concert (April 2023). This was the first time they performed this version live since December 2017 and, being a special occasion, it was a sort of an encore. After this, they have opened every concert with this again (if I'm not wrong).
    And I absolutely love how the crowd cheers every "MOMOMETAL desu". 😊
    Until next time!

    Great reaction! This is Babymetal’s staple show opener, and an “intro” song.
    Desu (silent “u”) = I am / We are.
    Babymetal desu! = We are Babymetal!
    Su-metal desu! = I am Su-metal!
    Say it with a lisp, and it sounds like “Death”. Babymetal loved a good play on words.
    They stopped performing this song at end of 2017 when original 3rd member Yui left due to health. In this show, in Apr 2023, Momometal was made official 3rd member, and they brought the song back after 5+ years!

    👍For those who say BABYMETAL is not metal, I present you with BABYMETAL Death.😉
    OTFGK, but an interesting take posted on BABYMETAL REDDIT by VulpineDeity:
    Take it a step farther. Not only does 'SU-METAL DESU' mean she's introducing herself, it's also her super-hero transformation phrase.
    Like on Sailor Moon, Usagi says 'Moon Prism Power!' and turns into Sailor Moon, Suzuka Nakamoto shouts 'I AM SU-METAL' and becomes possessed by the spirit of the Fox God and transforms into the Metal Goddess SU-METAL.
    The magical girl who transforms into a hero is a huge trope in Japan, comparable to Disney princesses in the west. BABYMETAL DEATH! follows the trope and it's the moment that they all transform into their magical alter egos at the start of the show.

    You should try to watch Babymetal death from the show legend 97. That is the best to watch. This one Momoko Okazaki is already the new Babymetal member. You will be amazed by the other show, believe me.

    It was their normal starter song. They were taught to use a stage persona and this song helped them to find their chosen persona.
    And while the title looks dangerously it is in fact not the english death but the japanese desu. It is quite simple, they only say ""I am chosen name" and a bit later "We are Babymetal".

    • @Jordan-Ramses
      @Jordan-Ramses Před 5 měsíci +3

      That is incorrect. The official name of the song is Babymetal Death. They have put the lyrics on screen in Japan and they say Death. It's both things. That is the point of a play on words. To say two things at the same time. Saying just one thing is boring.

    Love the look on your face as the song progressed 😂 If anyone still thinks Babymetal are not metal then this song should fix that.
    Look out for the Legend 1997 version of BABYMETAL DEATH. That was lead singer Su-metal's 16th birthday and let's just say no other teenager celebrated that way💀✝️💀🦊🤘

    Hi Petri, stumbled upon this one and gave it a go. You know, I may have been a bit critical of An.. another singer the other day, but at the very least I could still relate to the wider cultural context. W/o prior warning I can honestly say that the name babymetal reminds me of the term "baby formula" (instant powder to make 🍼feeding goo). Glad the audience is more than prepared to suck it all up. Equally glad to not be part of such a crowd.
    What I see/hear is the formulaic infantilization of metal. To say that I don't dig Japan's postmodern "Kawaii" culture and its offshoots, is putting it mildly, haha, so that might be the underlying problem here. Could be way worse tho (check at your own peril e.g.: "YENA「DNA」Music Video"). Cheers from Amsterdam! 🤘

      Why not think of Baby as a newborn . Newly Born style of Metal . Would not want to be part of it . Great time before ( never knew queuing could be so fun ) ,during (the best time ), and after the show ( meet ups after parties ) 👍 😃

      @Jordan-Ramses Před 5 měsíci +11

      Formulaic? They invented a new genre of music. That is a ridiculous criticism.

      Of course, it's vital that metal remains a graveyard for old metalheads stuck in tradition.

    • @Grington300
      @Grington300 Před 5 měsíci +10

      There is nothing formulaic about them or their music unless "formulaic" means "original, innovative and unique" (and we all know it doesn't). Getting on for 70 songs, every one of them different to the last, songs in virtually every metal genre and then so many more musical styles and genres blended in with the metal.
      The name BABYMETAL was chosen for two reasons:
      - to symbolise the birth of their own new genre of metal music;
      - because the writing (and pronunciation) in Japanese is very nearly identical to the writing of "heavy metal" (and they love a pun):
      BABYMETAL = ベビーメタル (be-bi-me-ta-ru)
      heavy metal = ヘビーメタル (he-bi-me-ta-ru)
      I can understand you not wanting to be part of the crowd - metal crowds, mosh pits, walls of death etc can be a bit intimidating. ... but you are missing out on one of the very best live bands on the planet.
