This band has been underrated and forgotten by most of the Rock world. If you like the organ of Ken Hensley you should listen to "July Morning" from the same album.
Up there with Jon Lord
Manfred Mann plays the Minimoog on July Morning.
To a degree, they have been reinstituted as forerunners in combining progressive rock and the heavy rock of that era. Imo "Why" is one of their best songs, especially the edited version that was a b- side of "Gypsy" single if my memory serves me. It contains great guitar playing from Mick Box.
Yeh, July Morning is another fine track from this band who are due a renaissance for all the great songs and concerts that they did, Europe loved them on tour too.
Nobody EVER underrated Uriah Heep
Bought this album when it came out. The album cover had a mirror on it. Saw them in Concert in 1973 they were great. Uriah Heep and Deep Purple two very talented bands.
I feel like all the best bands from that era had great keyboards!!!
And underrated
@@notgivennotgiven7776 That's for sure saw Deep Purple in 1972 Machine Head tour.
@@BeeLineEast I'm jealous. I seen them in 75 with Hughes and Coverdale. Blackmore introduced the opening band ELF, and they had this singer by the name Ronnie James Dio.
@@notgivennotgiven7776 When I saw Deep purple 1972 ELF was on the tour with them and Fleetwood Mac.No one knew at the time that Dio would be in a band called Rainbow with Ritchie Blackmore a few years later. Crazy concert that was. Jon Lord's Hammond broke down and if I remember correctly they played the song Paint it Black.to fill in for Lord till the roadies wheeled in a replacement. The concert was held in Hershey Pa. Nov. 10 th. 1972.
I saw Uriah Heep with Steppinwolf back in 71 or 72 in Houston, Texas. It was their first tour to The U.S. Awesome show!
This is one of the best Uriah Heep albums of all time. Look at yourself is one of THE fixed classics in their live set til today \m/
A tragically overlooked band.
I was brought up listening to Uriah Heep in the 70's so not underated by me.
Thank you for going where no one else will! I saw them and Montrose with Spooky Tooth the same night! What a concert! The vocals alone are worthy of a listen.
Spooky tooth. That may be my next one to check out. Thanks.
David Byron 🐐🎤
Judging from all the head bobbing and the smile on his face, I would say yea, Chod liked this one.
Great stuff Chod!! Been waiting for another Uriah Heep reaction. This band is brilliant !! Top song - one of their heaviest. Keyboardist Ken Hensley on lead vocals here.
I love Uriah Heep. Saw them a few times in the early 70's. Even got on stage with them. It was an awesome feeling for a teenage girl !
This sounds a lot like their song Easy Living. Same driving beat.
For you like the fantasy type lyrics that some of the Rainbow and Dio song’s have, you may like Uriah Heeps son “The Magicians birthday “ or Lady in Black.
Oh yeah. Magician's Birthday...one of the best guitar solos with just drums for accompaniment.
My personal favorites from them are ANYTHING off the Demons And Wizards or Magician's' Birthday albums, but my most favorite songs of theirs are probably Easy Livin', Spider Woman, Sweet Lorraine and Paradise (very nice slow song).
Stealing fantastic track off Salisbury 🎤🎸
Uriah Heep! :D
This is my favorite UH album. Heavy. Totally Rocks.🎵🎸🎧☺
My favorite, "Stealin", by Uriah Heep.
Their absolute best album. Only one with drummer Ian Clarke. Don't know why. The drumming in this album is world class.
No, percussionists from Osibisa joined them.
Another excellent choice and reaction. Next try "July Morning". One of my favorites by UH or any one else.
*BRILLIANT ! 👏*
Seconded on the July Morning suggestion. Absolute banger...
All Uriah Heep bass players are always playing so freaking fast
Great band, love this song
Or easy living
The record and title song Salisbury is my favorite record, also love the life record
Uriah Heep is one of the very few bands that had a fair number of songs about introspection and self-improvement. It's kind of astonishing that ANY band went there, and even more astonishing that Uriah Heep is the one that did.
Uriah Heap was a kick ass band. I haven't heard any of their songs in 40 plus years. Thanks Chod. Keep them coming.
Now do Salisbury, you won't be disappointed. Then do ' July morning ' and you will see why this band is criminally underrated and are in the conversation of one of the top ten bands ever!
Love it especially the title song
"Stealin" next - the album version!!
Uriah Heep great band but only reached their full potential with their later masterpieces "Wizards & Demons & Magician's Birthday LPs. Each packed full with imaginative thematic storytelling mythic lyrical & sonic imagery. Once this singer David Byron left they lost a key element. But still one of my favorites and last great memorable creative Hardrock bands of that wonderful pre-Metal era. After which straight Rock simply became too commercially repetitive' immature and predictable. I simply grew out of the genre. Prog was all that was still worth considering before Metal again sucked the thunder from it as well.
"Salisbury" "Circle of Hands" "The Wizard" "Stealin'" "Lady In Black"
I love this song - when the guitar kicks in all the hairs on my arms stand up.
I will ALWAYS click for Uriah Heep!
Thanks for highlightoing this band who are fondly remembered for their great musicianship and live performances. You still need to discover another overlooked British rock band tho in Wishbone Ash - please listen to 'The King Will Come' from their LP 'Argus' and you will hear more great riches.
I saw WA in Phoenix in the round back in 73. They did almost the whole Argus album. For a fairly unknown band they were great. They kind of remind me of Def Leppard.
Give a go with The Magician's Birthday
Saw them in 1974 in central park for $6.50. Schaffer Beer sponsored concerts in the park back then. They were so good.
Killer drumming and percussion.
After hearing this you must try Alice Cooper’s Halo of Flies.
Absolutely - a hidden Cooper gem: czcams.com/video/fGOD1-NtxH8/video.html
'Fields of Regret'
Uriah Heep Live is on of the GREATEST ALBUMS of all time!
Great pick, from a great old band. Uriah Heep were fun live! Want another great tune from a kick ass rockin' band? Never in My Life, Leslie West and Mountain rip it up. Cheers and keep the old timey rockers coming!
I really miss that keyboard sound. And the musicianship of bands like this and deep purple. Barely got introduced to this band, I'm sure I'll dig deeper.
As a teenager back in the mid 1970s, we used to listen to lots of different types of rock music. One of my favorite live albums was "Uriah Heep Live." IMHO, one of the best 70s live records. This song is on it along with "Sunrise," "Easy Livin'," "Sweet Lorraine" and "Gypsy." We used to puff up and relax to lots of rock music. Very proggy. A later song of theirs I live is "Stealin'." A toe tapping tune! ✌❤
It's always a pleasure tuning in to your show. You obviously are enjoying every note of the songs you play, and the songs you've selected from the suggestions have been great. You have dozens of artists still to explore, with thousands of songs; I predict you'll be listening and smiling for some years to come!
Nice! A classic!
Great breakdown! Yes more Heep!!! Side note I’m surprised you haven’t tackled the brand new Yes track yet! ;)
The great Mick Box
Ken Baker played drums on the group's first two albums.
Demons and Wizards. The wizard
Uriah Heep self titled album
Look At Yourself.
Uriah Heep also check out two of their songs one is called sunrise the other one the wizard two good songs from the 70s
Nice to see you come back from the soft ( dark) side.
Oh, yeah! This is one of THE great albums. I especially hope you'll react to "Tears In My Eyes" and "Shadows of Grief" from side two.
The great 4 of the 70s: Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and Uriah Heep. The first three have today a legend status, Uriah Heep is forgotten. Nobody knows why ? they were influencial for many Bands later.
I'd suggest Stealin'
Here's a song with anger, passion, and overpowering righteous hate. Steppenwolf's The Pusher (aka God Damn The Pusher Man)
I love the band Uriah Heep. mainly the phase with vocalist David Byron. I suggest the songs THE WIZARD and SUNRISE
You're welcome, of course!
To completely appreciate this song you need to listen to it between 2 JBL L100's!
And I'm still not deaf!🤣🤣
Lol I still have my JBL L100s from the 1970s
@@ptrlxc I know, right? I bought mine in 73🤣🤣🤣
Funniest thing is you can sell them on eBay for more than we paid for them.
I was doing it through my L112's.
Welcome to the real progressive Uriah Heep, you want a ride, then either July Morning or Gypsy need to be next.
Chod, for your next Uriah Heep please play Paradise/The Spell from Demons and Wizards.
Uriah Heep STILL puts on a great show!
They are still playing. Mick Box is the last of the original.
Chod, I've been a loyal subscriber since the beginning. Please check out PILGRIM,
Return to Fantasy
July Morning - Live version
Beautiful Dream
These songs will put UH back on the top of your list.
Pilgrim is really an overwhelming and soulful masterpiece. Very good choice! \m/
If you've got 16 mins to spare try Salisbury by Uriah Heep. Great piece.
My fave Uriah Heep song. Don't put it on in the car...speeding ticket ahead.
Check out Stealing and Easy Living by them. Great rockers.
Try Sweet Freedom album, Sweet Freedom and Pilgram to start….🎼🎼🎼
I prefer the live version of this song. it's fantastic.
Check out Pilgrim and Sunrise by The legends Uriah Heep.
Great Music.
Taking the place of electrocuted bassist Gary Thain.... King Crimson/Asia's lead singer bass player John Wetton( who also got a jolt later) played on the next two of the lps towards the end of David Byron's stay.
The only original player is Mick Box.
The movie title you're looking for is "The Sandlot". Excellent movie just as your reaction to this tune is.
The movie is The Sandlot.
Chod,try Shadows of grief
I was guessing late 60's early 70's. I was right.👍
Shadows of grief try that
Chod, You should checkout July Morning by Uriah Heep. It's a true epic track from the same album as Look At Yourself, and it has lots of keyboard/minimoog goodness you will appreciate. Also, Gypsy from the band's first album is a killer track with full on keyboard assault.
Tilt o Whirl
Gypsy from the Very heavy Very humble album is great and come away Melinda same album!
Hey Chod. My fiancé is the drummer in this band - give one of their newer songs a try 🙌🏼 x
Hey Chod, if you like a mean, and I mean wicked, slide guitar courtesy of Ken Hensley, check out Tears in My Eyes from the same album. In some circles, this song is consider to be one of Heep's all time best.
Mick Box is awesome!
And still going.
Great Guitarist & a great guy!
I always liked Rainbow Demon
Can you believe that the music press in the U.K. dismissed this band a the time they made it big? Just goes to show trust your own judgement when it comes to music.
Because they were good & different from the rest.
C'mon man, Lee Michaels and Stormy Monday. Just and organ and drums. Your two favorite pieces in the bands.
He did, look back through earlier reactions 🤠🤠
can you do a reaction to Salisbury by Uriah Heep
Hi Chod! Glad you are enjoying Uriah Heep. Now you have heard quite a bit of Heep may I recommend Paradise / The Spell from their 1972 album Demons and Wizards. czcams.com/video/5WVrGCa02IA/video.html
What are the two features of the dislike ?
Try a reaction to their magnum opus - "Salisbury" - czcams.com/video/asM5m0i-_OE/video.html
