  • The P-Shot is a rising therapy for the treatment of erectile dysfunction. Its main ingredient is Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP), derived from the patient’s own blood. This video on UroChannel is about the mechanism of action and effectiveness of this new method.
You're probably familiar with Viagra and Cialis, which can temporarily restore erectile function. However, these solutions primarily address symptoms, not the root causes. Enter PRP, an experimental therapy that taps into your body's natural regenerative power, using Platelet-Rich Plasma injected directly into the penis.
I'm Dr. med. Dr. phil. Stefan Buntrock, a board-certified urologist and sexologist from Göttingen. Let's clear one thing up: PRP isn't yet a standard treatment for erectile dysfunction; it's experimental. But don't let that term scare you. PRP is entirely natural, derived from your blood, with no pharmaceuticals involved. The reason it's not standard? We're awaiting more scientific evidence.
In my previous PRP video, I explored what PRP is and how it's obtained. But here's the catch: there's no standardized PRP preparation method, and it varies between individuals. The big questions include dosing, injection intervals, and overall effectiveness. So, is the P-Shot effective against erectile dysfunction?
Early signs are promising. In 2012, studies on rats indicated nerve recovery, smooth muscle regeneration, and improved erectile function. Fast forward to 2021, and we saw encouraging results in a clinical trial on 17 men. A larger study in Turkey the same year included 35 men, demonstrating moderate improvements in sexual satisfaction and function.
However, a double-blind, placebo-controlled trial in Greece with 60 men in 2021 reported significant improvements in sexual function for the PRP group. Meanwhile, a 2023 US study with 61 men failed to find a difference. The inconsistency stems from study design, patient selection, and the lack of standardization.
Overall, PRP holds promise, with low complication rates and the safety of using your blood. It's available in clinics, but results may vary. Choosing the right clinic is crucial, as success depends on multiple factors.
