  • The East Coast of Sweden looks perfect for a sailing canoe. It is littered with small and larger islands, and with the prevailing west winds the coast is mostly sheltered. Camping is free, as long as you respect nature, and the privacy of others. From my home in the Netherlands, it's a two day drive by car, and I had three weeks of holidays. So Sweden is within reach. My plan was to sail the stretch of coast with the most islands, going North from Vaestervik. I wanted to go further and further into the wilderness and desolation of this very very large coastline. All I wanted was to be on the water and sail. I was getting back to the basics: Eat, sleep, sail, repeat.
My start point was Marsbacken, the first evening, with a fire inside and cooking with a few more guests was great!

To find camping places and shelters, a great collection via google maps can be found at:

The location of the shelter map sites seem to be changed a lot, so you can google "shelter map Sweden" as well to find good locations (or use your eyes ;)

Very interesting adventure. I live in Skelleftea northern Sweden and have sailed parts of your jerney but in bigger sailboats.

Thanks, yes putting such a small boat on my car makes these beautiful sailing waters accessible for me.

Wonderful. wonderful trip. Very interesting!!! How do you manage to sail on such a boat and tell me how to learn to sail on such narrow boats? What is the sail area of your boat, the length and width of the boat?

Happy to see one of my kit boats doing what she is designed for, with a agile, prudent and brave skipper. Here is the design history of the boat: czcams.com/video/rtRm2MHmcVk/video.html
