  • The restoration of my classic Alfa Romeo Giulia from 1972 continues.
    The right door sill had been finished about 1,5 years ago, now I finally returned to the project and tackled the left one. After 3 of 4 films, the new sill turned out really nice.

I’ll be tearing into it’s redo with your tutelage in hand. My 4th, they all rest. ‘67 rusted gone. ‘65 GTA , a little of clean up. ‘72, rough clean up built into full race car. Developed a rotisserie for that, and will use on the ‘74. Life with these little, lightweight gems is so-inclined. I’ll be watching, and will consider Patreon.

    Thanks, always a great watch and I learn a new useful trick every time. It's an interesting tradeoff between trying to fill holes with weld (and accept how ugly the other side will be if you can't get to it) or just chop it out and put in a small patch. Generally I spend a while messing around blowing holes and eventually fill up the hole, then wish I had just cut a section out :) The compromise where possible is to drill a large enough hole to get back to thicker steel, then make a small circular patch piece and weld that in.

    • @GreasyFingers
      @GreasyFingers  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks, Mark.
      Yeah, you’re certainly right about the pros and cons of filling and cutting. I have to admit that also patches don’t make me happy when it comes to the ugliness of the backsides.
      I guess, at the end of the day we have to just live with it.

    • @GreasyFingers
      @GreasyFingers  Před 2 lety

      Thanks, Martyn. I use two-component epoxy primer and sometimes Brunox as rust converter, but be aware, it doesn’t penetrate very well. Then a base coat of acrylic two-component paint and that’s all.

    Love your channel and work. I am in the process of purchasing a 66 Giulia 1300 TI with 33,000 KM and little to no corrosion. It sat in an Alfa collection for years. I'd like to Fluid Film the fenders and rockers to protect it's future. Will you be doing that to this car and any chance of a video showing how to access the cavities? I thought the 911 episode was great but obviously the 105 Alfas are their own set of problems. Thanks

Just one little question..i get why you (as well as all other restorers in youtube) show the welding, it is an important part of the process..however, watching welding filmed so close can be a bit annoying to eyes..well at least my eyes. Would there be any other solution to show it? Would some filter do?
