Later on, when Tim Alexander left the band, he said something like "Yeah... Tim was the MVP of the band. Tim made the songs sound more dynamic and his tight playing made us sound tighter than we really were. I didn't think we were a good band without Tim." I think that's somewhat what RLM thinks. Like, we all look at Space Cop and think "Yeah, that was SUPPOSED to be bad. They're hack frauds, lol," but apparently they were trying to make something more on the side of MST3K (cheap sets, but still entertaining) and they just made a crappy movie, arguably worse than anything they reviewed on Best Of The Worst. Honestly, the impression I get of Mike is that he wanted to be the jobbing production guy, smoking a cigarette with the rest of the crew on a mid-tier movie about space wizards for Netflix, and he considers himself a failure because he's just a lame movie reviewer on CZcams. Like, Mike and Jay seem to genuinely have some disdain for their CZcams success because they both wanted it to lead to something else. Jay wanted to be a 'real' critic, and Mike wanted to work on 'real' movies.

I liked this cut a lot, but the score was all over the place. The Amazon singing got annoying after like the third time it happened and then it played again maybe ten more times. And while I really love the MoS score, hearing it after hearing Diana’s theme so many times made it feel cheap even though it had a much more specific usage that should’ve worked.

It definitely doesn’t feel like their most honest criticisms. I think they’re just so bogged down by summer schlockbuster superhero movies that anything resembling a coherent film is worth recommending.

So technically, I think that Snyder said "I need to take some time off to deal with a family tragedy" and the studio was regretting having him as a director anyhow. So they gave him an ultimatum that if he left they were going to do it without him, and he was like "fuck you, but I have to go". They brought in Whedon, who was thinking of a way to get another crack at Avengers.
I was a big Whedon fan back in the day. Not gonna lie, it kinda sucks to be confronted with such clear evidence that he's really not all that. Maybe the truth is that he used to do good work, but at some point in the last ten years he's just lost his touch.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer was a much better movie than a series. Firefly was really his best thing, mostly because the western dialogue cuts out most of the Whedonisms.
To be fair though, it would have been 15 minutes shorter but the flaming arrow stopped for coffee. Plus, there was a long line and the guy behind the counter got the flaming god arrow's name wrong.

I didn't expect much from the Joker scenes I heard they were adding, but god damn was it awful. Even putting aside how much of a douche canoe Leto is outside of his acting career, his epilogue scene was just so cringe-inducing. At least he's alright in Bladerunner.

It was said by Snyder that much of those would've been explained in the sequel. Darkseid forgets cuz of his head injury and the rest of the guys there were later killed. Then the Mother Boxes go to sleep, making them anonymous(there's like 100 thousand worlds here in multiple universes😅) They are all asleep then thinking all the Gods, etc are there to protect Earth. Then Silas Stone wakes up the motherbox to save Victor but it doesn't call out to Steppenwolf cuz Superman was there and we basically saw that Superman can deep roast Steppenwolf for dinner😂. I think the latter was explained in the movie

His point about superhero’s fighting each other makes sense. In the movies the hero’s are the only ones with a significant amount of character development and established abilities and rules, so even though it feels contrived, the fight scenes still feel good because you know who’s in them. The movie villains are always rushed, one-dimensional and are only there to serve the plot. In the comic books the contrivance feels much more forced and the villains usually have enough lore to make them feel fleshed-out
@@NameAvailable Thanos was basically the first and only villain to get around this problem, being extremely well developed and having the action centered around him made it feel more intense as he was sort of the main character for the two films ( less so in Endgame ). this is something I don't expect Darkside to do in the DC movies at all... if they ever get there of course.
There was an idea, called the Half in the Worst: View Initiative. The idea was to bring together a group of of remarkable people to see if they could become something more. To see if they could work together when we needed them to, to fight the battles that we never could.
I think what surprises me the most isnt that they reshot and retoned the whole movie to trim it down. It's all the characters and scenes that were shot, paid for, costumes made, locations, crew, digital effects... all just thrown in the dumpster. How easy was it for them to do that???
It's amazing what hollywood does to try to appeal to a wider audience...they could have just saved the 100 mil and even if it tanked it would have still made more money

I think the biggest problem for me with the Synder movies is encapsulated when they're talking about how Synder worships the Heroes and ignores the normal people. Because you have something like Batman vs Superman. Superman does save some people in a montage... and he looks absolutely miserable and as if he utterly hates and despises that he has to do that and the people he's helping. And that's kind of the recurring thing for me. In his versions I remember more moments of Superman being petty and vindictive than I recall him really being Superman and saving the day. Which is probably the biggest problem with those movies. Not to say that it's not something other directors have struggled with. I think in general pretty much every single movie (Yes, even the original) has focused hard on "Superman is Alien Jesus". Instead of "Superman is a kind hearted hero". And that's a big stumbling block for me.
I know why most people interpret it like that, that he's supposed to hate people worshiping him. But I think it's still an important point to the core of it and how Synder sees superheroes and normal people. Which is backed up by some commentary he made later about his plans for the franchise and where he wanted to take it.
@@hitomisalazar4073 Snyder's view on superheroes and normal people are actually optimistic considering the end of BvS had Bruce Wayne reformed by Superman as a better person. "Men are still good." Snyder also didn't portray Superman as Jesus. BvS made that very clear: "The fact is, maybe he's not some sort of Devil or Jesus character. Maybe he's just a guy trying to do the right thing."
Joss Whedon's joke lines read by Mike Stoklasa really showcase the B-movie level of writing holy shit. I've heard better joke one-liners in Space Cop no kidding.
It's really sad that he's lost his touch. This is the guy who seemingly could do no wrong: Buffy, Angel, Dollhouse, Firefly, Dr. Horrible, Cabin in the Woods... All excellent. And then came Avengers and one wondered what happened. That movie is ok, but for Whedon it's really weak. And then the unbearably bad Avengers 2. True, looking at the serious Marvel movies, bad writing seems to be the norm, but still... I haven't seen the Snyder cut, I have the feeling what made me turn off JL the first time is not only Whedons doing. But since everybody is talking about Whedons bad writing and the stone that broke the axle was the excruciating technobabble when they're talking about that box... Well, here's to hoping.
Going back to some Avengers and iron man quip scenes is pretty embarrassing. I don't know if humor has changed that much in the previous decade but looking back at things like that and Borderlands just gives you second hand embarrassment

apparently there was a scene with Green Lanterns in the end instead of Martian Manhunter and Snyder even shot it, but WB didn't allow him to put that in the movie saying they wanted to save Green Lantern for future Movies(which is weird as they have 3 versions of Batman and 3 versions of Superman upcoming)
Zack initially had a 214 minute (3hr 34 min) - 4 minutes longer than BvS: ultimate edition, cut that he wanted for his original theatrical run. WB still wasn’t okay with it. The reason why we got a four hour version now is because he fought for free reign and creative control for the HBOMax release and got to add back EVERYTHING he wanted.
"I survived the Snyder Cut and all I got was this lousy Snyder Cut." Also, I was expecting the joke to be just an hour of that flaming arrow flying through the air set to indistinct yodeling.
I dropped in the middle of my brother watching it so I wasn't super invested, but I was like "holy shit, these shots are too long." An hour could've been taken out with judicious editing just of scene footage
I still remember their review of a Transformers movie right on release(I think the 5th one?). It was just a black screen and an hours of the cgi transformation noises. I had the whole thing running in the background in case they put a gag in the middle. Last time I checked, they took that video down. I like to imagine it was a DMCA takedown because the noises are copyrighted.
I still for the life of me can't figure out how you have a Justice League movie without Green Lantern and Martian Man Hunter. The DCEU despite a few great films had been utterly halfassed from the start. And even if the Snyder Cut is a "Better film" I still feel Snyder doesn't understand the characters or we wouldn't have got what we did with BvS where they tried to shoehorn not only The Dark Knight Returns but Death of Superman into the same film. Those arcs represent the ends of those characters. And they tried to build a cinematic universe off the back of that? And I dont think anyone is clamoring for an extended cut of Ghostbusters 2016.
I have no inside information, proof or sources, but I honestly feel like the DCCU was rushed to put out any movie they can get out so they can catch up and compete with the MCU. Their impatient desire to have a universe for DC on the big screen feels like the reason why we’ve gotten these weak Justice League renditions.

My problem with a lot of Zack Snyder's films is his over indulgence and lack of brevity. He crams too many sub plots and unnecessary, elongated scenes into his films and lingers on them for far too long. That being said, his visual style is quite unique and at times gorgeous.

Personally my biggest disappointments were that they implied a 4 hour superhero movie recut of a 4 year old movie wasn’t laughably unjustifiable and the tonal dissonance of them describing it as “actually pretty good” whilst taking the piss out of it and/or looking half asleep in the screening room.
It definitely doesn’t feel like their most honest criticisms. I think they’re just so bogged down by summer schlockbuster superhero movies that anything resembling a coherent film is worth recommending.

Then the Mother Boxes go to sleep, making them anonymous(there's like 100 thousand worlds here in multiple universes😅) They are all asleep then thinking all the Gods, etc are there to protect Earth. Then Silas Stone wakes up the motherbox to save Victor but it doesn't call out to Steppenwolf cuz Superman was there and we basically saw that Superman can deep roast Steppenwolf for dinner😂. I think the latter was explained in the movie

We're talking about the man who selected Vampire Assassin as Best of the Worst.
His point about superhero’s fighting each other makes sense. In the movies the hero’s are the only ones with a significant amount of character development and established abilities and rules, so even though it feels contrived, the fight scenes still feel good because you know who’s in them. The movie villains are always rushed, one-dimensional and are only there to serve the plot. In the comic books the contrivance feels much more forced and the villains usually have enough lore to make them feel fleshed-out
I'm still mad about Overlord, completely okay film but God how much Mike overhyped it
@@NameAvailable Thanos was basically the first and only villain to get around this problem, being extremely well developed and having the action centered around him made it feel more intense as he was sort of the main character for the two films ( less so in Endgame ).

Mike's bit about films being meant to be watched on a 7 inch screen is very funny, but it was also quibi's entire business model. And they were given billions in start up cash.
I think the biggest problem for me with the Synder movies is encapsulated when they're talking about how Synder worships the Heroes and ignores the normal people. Because you have something like Batman vs Superman. Superman does save some people in a montage... and he looks absolutely miserable and as if he utterly hates and despises that he has to do that and the people he's helping.
And that's kind of the recurring thing for me. In his versions I remember more moments of Superman being petty and vindictive than I recall him really being Superman and saving the day.
Which is probably the biggest problem with those movies. Not to say that it's not something other directors have struggled with. I think in general pretty much every single movie (Yes, even the original) has focused hard on "Superman is Alien Jesus". Instead of "Superman is a kind hearted hero". And that's a big stumbling block for me.
I don't think you understand why Superman looks miserable in that montage in BvS.
I know why most people interpret it like that, that he's supposed to hate people worshiping him. But I think it's still an important point to the core of it and how Synder sees superheroes and normal people. Which is backed up by some commentary he made later about his plans for the franchise and where he wanted to take it.

Snyder also didn't portray Superman as Jesus. BvS made that very clear: "The fact is, maybe he's not some sort of Devil or Jesus character. Maybe he's just a guy trying to do the right thing."

I haven't seen the Snyder cut, I have the feeling what made me turn off JL the first time is not only Whedons doing. Going back to some Avengers and iron man quip scenes is pretty embarrassing. I don't know if humor has changed that much in the previous decade but looking back at things like that and Borderlands just gives you second hand embarrassment

I wish they’d used the scene from justice league: war that shows what parademons actually are. That makes them more interesting than what most people assume is another generic cgi army.

This JL film has some, not all, great qualities and great potential but overall it’s just not-good and just shy of being bad. Like, how do they have a JL movie without green lantern or a more involved Martian manhunter.
I feel like that ending is: "Remember the Injustice run? That would be great for Zac Synder, and an actual director would have handled all of this better"
It was all planned tho. I read the original JL 2 and JL 3 storyboards and it was epic

But you could pull off a DCEU version with the characters already in hand if you just took your time and planned it out, and actually gave a shit. Ma Kent turning into Martian Manhunter after a very touching scene was like "What??, Why??" Especially, in hindsight.
Because without Martian Manhunter nudging her, she'd have never calmed Superman. Though I dont think that was exactly his goal because I dont think he'd have known. Though she's key for superman in the future as well. That was a big point of the nightmare future happening.
That scene made me think of the T1000. I wondered how long it was J.Connors foster mom, cooking dinner, and doing other mom stuff. What if JC never called? How long would T1000 stay and be a foster mom?

In order to go along with JL you have to resign yourself to cheering for a Superman you know is a murderer and war criminal and a Batman who is just this side of being a spree shooter. I haven’t seen the Snyder cut yet but I have serious trouble imagining I’ll ever find myself cheering for these people.

I really like the Snyder cut.. but I couldn't stand that lamentation shit soundtrack..it was played so many times in the movie.. almost all the scene where WW was there.. it annoyed the fuck outta me...they should have gone with the a remix of the Hans Zimmer's theme.. it would have flowed a little better...

apparently there was a scene with Green Lanterns in the end instead of Martian Manhunter and Snyder even shot it, but WB didn't allow him to put that in the movie saying they wanted to save Green Lantern for future Movies(which is weird as they have 3 versions of Batman and 3 versions of Superman upcoming)
Zack initially had a 214 minute (3hr 34 min) - 4 minutes longer than BvS: ultimate edition, cut that he wanted for his original theatrical run. WB still wasn’t okay with it. The reason why we got a four hour version now is because he fought for free reign and creative control for the HBOMax release and got to add back EVERYTHING he wanted.

I dropped in the middle of my brother watching it so I wasn't super invested, but I was like "holy shit, these shots are too long." An hour could've been taken out with judicious editing just of scene footage

I still remember their review of a Transformers movie right on release(I think the 5th one?). It was just a black screen and an hours of the cgi transformation noises. I had the whole thing running in the background in case they put a gag in the middle.
Last time I checked, they took that video down. I like to imagine it was a DMCA takedown because the noises are copyrighted.

I still for the life of me can't figure out how you have a Justice League movie without Green Lantern and Martian Man Hunter. The DCEU despite a few great films had been utterly halfassed from the start. And even if the Snyder Cut is a "Better film" I still feel Snyder doesn't understand the characters or we wouldn't have got what we did with BvS where they tried to shoehorn not only The Dark Knight Returns but Death of Superman into the same film. Those arcs represent the ends of those characters. And they tried to build a cinematic universe off the back of that?
And I dont think anyone is clamoring for an extended cut of Ghostbusters 2016.
I have no inside information, proof or sources, but I honestly feel like the DCCU was rushed to put out any movie they can get out so they can catch up and compete with the MCU.
Their impatient desire to have a universe for DC on the big screen feels like the reason why we’ve gotten these weak Justice League renditions.

My problem with a lot of Zack Snyder's films is his over indulgence and lack of brevity. He crams too many sub plots and unnecessary, elongated scenes into his films and lingers on them for far too long. That being said, his visual style is quite unique and at times gorgeous.
