  • This is a repost of the podcast originally recorded a few years ago. CZcams recently launched a podcast section on channel pages. Initially, it was not a good idea to post podcast videos on your main channel as it would hurt the analytics. So I created a 2nd channel called The Exotic Pet Collective where the video version of the podcasts were uploaded. I had also been made aware that many of you did not the podcast existed, so I have been systematically taking the podcast down from the 2nd channel and moving them over to this channel. That way, they can all be under the podcast tab on my channel page, and viewers that had never seen or heard them before would be notified of their existence. I apologize for any confusion.
    Today, i am talking to Wilderness Nate from Microwilderness.com about his experiences breeding and selling tarantulas online. He is based out of Los Angles, CA, and is a tarantula dealer to the stars. He has an interesting story on how he became a tarantula breeder and works on some cool Aphonopelma projects that not only gets some cool species into the hobby, but also helps bolster the numbers of species in the wild.

    Loved this live especially as it followed on from what Trantular kats video was saying more in depth. I never heard about brown boxing. She said that someone got caught smuggling like a month ago. Interesting today. Thank you guys from UK xx

    Brilliant podcast once again, and to reiterate what Nate was saying about you and I totally agree because you’re the first videos I watched when I started keeping just 2yrs ago then to finally meet you in person in London at the show was inspiring and I’ve learnt so much from you and still do so thank you Richard 🤩🫶

    16:49 OH NO! I didn’t realize keeping slings alive was that hard? Any advice for someone keeping a Brazilian black sling the size of a quarter? It’s my first tarantula. (Truly I would appreciate advice, I asked on a tarantula forum on Facebook and people just kept replying with pictures of their tarantulas 😅)

    I follow your channel due to the video quality and the entertainment value of your info.
    In terms of educational value you are largely surpassed by several other more serious minded and educational CZcamsrs.
    It would never occur to me, due to the above, to comment your work ( which, again, has a lot of merit).
    This time I will comment. I could comment for several reasons but I will stick to two.
    As nice as your invitee was and is, and as knowledgeable as he may be, he deals in wild caughts, irrespective of the number of second instars he gives back to nature.
    Now this goes against everything you ( and others) advocate.
    On the other hand, and now I point directly at you, you make a living out of CZcams ( or at least a part thereof, as per my understanding of your discourse) and, involved in that, is your being a recipient of gifts ( for lack of a better word) from people who do business in this ' invertebrate field'.
    Your not having the due diligence, the care, inviting a specific person to your show, of not knowing what said person offered you ( as was the case of your not being sure if he had sent you a couple of B Auratus) reeks of arrogance, of the lack of the most basic respect for those on whom you depend to pursue your carreer.
    I could go on and on, based solely on this last video.
    Greetings from Europe.

    Basically to keep the hobby captive breed everyone who owns tarantulas would have to be breeding and putting back into the hobby to keep year round availability of specimens. There will always be captive breed and wild caught or else there wouldn’t be any money to be made for anyone considering doing this as a business.

    • @tarantulacollective
      @tarantulacollective  Před 5 měsíci +1

      Just looking at all the other exotic pet niches that are 100% captive bred and thriving, easily disproves this opinion. I also suspect you might not be aware of just how many spiderlings some species produce in a single egg sac.

    • @brandimyhren6317
      @brandimyhren6317 Před 5 měsíci

      @@tarantulacollective Nate literally said he has to get wild caught because some of the species of spiders he breeds takes two years to breed again. Thats what I was referring too. There’s no money being made in those two years as far as breeding of those spiders.

    If you are gonna go to Louisiana stay far from New Orleans. Lafayette is not only farther from the coast but also much safer
