The whole family bit feels like something to make the onceler be more sympathetic, they are the reason he's like this, forcing him into doing these things just so they could have a piece of the profit Without them in biggering, it shows the onceler is fully committed to what he's doing, and not for the sake of appeasing his family, less sympathetic, but more impactful
I feel like they definitely would've been in the earlier cut of the movie, but they wouldn't have had nearly as major a role, which is how it was always intended to be
I have a feeling that the family were added in by the higher ups. I mean, biggering quite clearly presents megacorporations as knowing the harm they are doing, and explicitly says it’s motivated by greed- an extension of pride. Note that the truly greedy evil rich dude is O’Hare, who looks far less human than the Oncelor. I suspect the film was originally darker in tone, and the Oncelor far less sympathetic- at least later on- and more clearly motivated by greed rather than familial pressures. The draft script and biggering demo were then rejected as they were too anti-megacorp for the higher ups- bear in mind illumination is owned by universal who are owned by capcom, one of the biggest companies in the world.
@@Anonyomus_commenter In fact, if there was an original script or draft of the film from which the tone was darker and more serious, this song is not the only one removed. There are a total of 7 songs removed from the film that told a totally different story than what we got. One of those demos is the opening song of Thneedville, which apart from being longer, was more direct with the theme of consumerism and the citizens were aware of the pollution that existed in Thneedville. Another change is that Ted sings in part of the song. (the protagonist) where his personality was that of a consumerist and selfish child who wanted things he did not have, originally his motivation was to have the tree for himself due to his desire to possess what no one had in Thneedville (a real tree) But as the movie progresses, Ted would develop and begin to question his way of thinking to finally truly care about the trees.
How’s it that the demo version feels far more thought out than the final version? Oh, wait. I know. Because Illumination were too biased to let the demo version make it into the film.
Yeah, even in earlier cuts of 'How Bad Can I Be?' they still wanted to carry over the dark feel of 'Biggering' but Illumination forced them to tone it down

To me a interesting idea they could have done is make how bad I can be onceler first song and make biggering his final song to show how he let his pride and greed get to him
The fact that Onceler's family do not appear in Biggering makes it better.
how bad can I be has a good instrumental, but biggering is even better tbh

They most likely had both but Illumination cut it due to themselves being a corporation
Eminem would have went quiet if they dropped this
