- A nursery nurse who strapped a baby girl face down on to a bean bag for more than a hour and a half has been convicted of her manslaughter.
Nine-month-old Genevieve Meehan was also tightly swaddled and covered with a blanket by Kate Roughley, 37, who put her to sleep when she was in her care at Tiny Toes nursery in Cheadle Hulme, Stockport.
Roughley discovered Genevieve’s lifeless body on the afternoon of May 9 2022 before colleagues and then paramedics attempted to revive the baby but her condition was irreversible and she was pronounced dead later that day in hospital.
On Monday, a jury of six men and six women at Manchester Crown Court unanimously found Roughley, of Heaton Norris, Stockport, guilty of manslaughter.
Roughley was remanded in custody ahead of her sentencing on Wednesday afternoon.

I hate the fact that this country forces mothers or a father to go back to work instead of being able to look after their child cost of living sucks I never trusted anyone with my kids except their grandparents
Same here. I didn't have children for others to part bring up. So I didn't return to work after my first was born. So money was very short, but we were in a position where we could manage. However, both my children went to a local playgroup two mornings a week, but not until they were three. Parents did not stay. We also went to a parent and toddler group, where parents had tool stay. It was all good socialising experiences, and in part prepared the children for going to primary school. And occasionally it flagged up concerns about development - this could mean early and effective monitoring and advice /intervention. I loved every minute of bringing up my chikdren.
I see my children struggle juggling childcare & work & part of that pressure is because as a grandparent at 61 I would have retired by now & would have been able to care for my grandchildren but I won't be able to do that for another 6 yrs....
I hear you but the imagine how many people would take advantage of that and then the tax payer would have to pay
We're the real slaves, president Lyndon Johnson said it best.
Genevieve 's Law, to honour her life and memory, and to campaign for better child-care practices, awareness, training, and accountability for child-care business owners everywhere, as they are 'not' entirely free of responsibility in this case.
Im so sorry for the loss of your beautiful daughter.
Its sickening to think there are so called nursery nurses out there that could be so evil to do that to a innocent child..
.
Some of the most evil people you will ever meet work in the caring professons at all levels.
Psychopaths are attracted to this type of work because it gives them power over vulnerable people under the cloak of being "good guys".
Such a very tragic case of child abuse. I felt extremely privileged to look after under 2s in a private nursery, back in the days that I worked. I don’t have children but I treated each one of my charges as if they were my own. Same couldn’t be said for 3 others. One female slammed an 18 month old down on a beanbag so hard that she broke the child’s leg. No discipline was handed out, instead the boss removed that worker and let her work in one of her other nurseries. Whilst working there, she kicked a child into a cupboard and he ended up with a broken leg too. Although, I didn’t work there I heard of the incident from one of the girls who worked with her. I told my own boss who then went on to tell her boss, the nursery owner. It was only then that this monster was sacked. Another person I worked with continually threatened a 4 year old girl that she would take her brother away from her (he was a baby that I looked after) if she didn’t eat her snack. The poor wee girl was hysterical. At that point the nursery had been sold and we had a new boss. I instantly told my boss and that person was sacked. Thirdly, when the nursery got sold, my ex-boss took our supervisor (who was amazing) to work in her other nursery. The supervisor from there joined us, and she was absolutely wicked. The final straw happened when she couldn’t control a crying 10 month old baby at the end of the day. I was beside myself because I knew his Mum was coming to pick him up shortly and the last thing you want to do would be to hand over a hysterical baby. She wouldn’t accept my offer to help her out. I knew I could have done a better job than she was doing and she told me that, “If I could get away with throwing S out of the window, I would” 😡 That evening I got in touch with my boss and when I arrived for work in the morning, she’d been sacked. It just goes to show that you don’t know what’s going on behind closed doors. There’s absolutely no way that I will stand by and watch someone get mistreated. I don’t care who it upsets.
Disturbing story about a baby killed by a nursery nurse in an environment where she should have been safe. So sad
Can't even trust nurse or police what now
Forgot to mention the whole government.....
What are we going to do with all these surgeons 😂

And.. where was the rest of the staff! While this was going on for over an HOUR!

Speechless about so much stupidity from a Nurse....

Weren't there other staff members at that nursery? Why didn't anyone else notice what was going on? Surely there was a person with overall responsibility? Strapping a baby to a bean bag bed? On her front? That sounds very very dark to me. What else goes on in that establishment?
They don't like child killers in prison.
Very good point. Although for that reason, she might be placed on a "vulnerable" section... with other people with similar charges.
Why did none of the other nursery workers know what was happening ? I think they did.
Exactly,as they are always a bunch of them working in the rooms. SO even the owner never NOTICED from the cctv that it was weird how the baby wasn't moving or was strapped?

There’s a huge difference between murder and manslaughter. Maybe you should read a book on law and then you’ll understand.

Dont work with children if u treat them like that ffs
I was teacher myself and I can say most places they are so rough and cruel with little babies.
Employer also liable. Max ratio 1 adult for each 3 babies under 2. This nurse had 11 babies in her care.
We should all bring our children up at home ourselves and NEVER leave our children with anybody at all. Not ever. Not for a single minute. Very sorry for their loss. Very sad indeed.

Awful sad
The poor mother looks dead behind the eyes, how the two parents will carry on i don't know. That sweet baby, gut wrenching.
I don’t understand why people put their children in nursery so young??
Because they’ve got work to do. 🤷🏻♀️
@@A_MalaI still don’t understand it. I have work to do and I rearranged my entire schedule so my child never has to spend time with strangers.
Insensitive given the parents most probably read the comments at some point. It wasn't their neglect

Now the taxpayer has to pay for child care for parents who want everything.
@@PTPB1it was ,putting an 8 month old baby into a nursery.
Not murder?
From what I hear the childcare sector is in a dreadful state. I wouldn’t want to be a parent that had any kind of dependence on such a unit.
We are a dumbed down have-it-all society that cares for nothing except to maximise consumer activity and provide employment for those deemed to be entitled by virtue of their position in society
We can see the results beginning to feed through today: Post Office incompetence Network outages etc. What a mess. Labour? Conservative? Give me strength

Poor baby. Sorry for you, mom and dad. I pray god to heal or ease your pain in this horrible time of your life. 😭
That's not manslaughter thats blatant murder
DO NOT HAVE KIDS UNLESS YOU ARE WILLING TO STAY AT HOME AND LOOK AFTER THEM YOURSELF
No tears mate
Why is nobody asking why a 9 month old baby is at a nursery instead of with its mother?
Nine months is FAR too young to be seperated from the mother, it is still at breast-feeding age. Children seperated from their natural mothers at such an early age grow up with personality disorders involving lack of empathy and inability to bond.
It could be said that a woman who is unwilling to nurse her own child (at whatsoever sacrifice) is herself a damaged person, unfit for motherhood who should have used contraceptives.
This individual was clearly downright neglectful, she was fed up with her job and her reckless endangerment cost the poor little child its life. However, without making any excuses the point her barrister made about what you get for £12 an hour is very true.
Whataprat, it was her job to take care of those babies uprat and she failed at it
She accepted the job she accepted the responsibility. What a thoughtless comment to make, trying to even suggest that because she wasn’t on a high wage she didn’t need to look after that baby is incredibly stupid
@@1jakedizzle unfortunately in the real world it doesn’t work like that. whilst this is a very rare case, people in this environment end up quite often with compassion fatigue. You see this all the time in this country in nursing homes and such like.
@@1jakedizzle indeed it was beyond stupid!
