Family react after nursery worker found guilty of baby's manslaughter

- A deputy nursery manager has been found guilty of causing the death of a nine-month-old baby who suffocated on a bean bag after being “virtually immobilised” by her carer as a punishment.
Kate Roughley, 37, subjected Genevieve Meehan to an “illogical and disturbing” campaign of hostility at Tiny Toes nursery in Cheadle Hulme, Manchester crown court was told.
The child was found unresponsive and blue in May 2022 after Roughley strapped her to a bean bag following days of antagonistic behaviour towards her.
Roughley was impassive in the dock as the jury returned a unanimous guilty verdict after a five-week trial.

Those poor parents.
What a wicked evil person .9 months old babies can't be naughty.
Why work with children if you have a nasty temper and don't like babies 😢
Yes fully agree
Why couldn’t the vessel be the mother she was meant to be and give up her career to give her child the best start in life in a very comfortable home environment with a working father?
I think the same thing about parents who do nothing but scream at and hit their kids. Having one and not realising you won't enjoy being a parent is one thing, not that the kid deserves it, but they always have a few more just in case it's somehow the kid's fault? Was this woman a parent? Maybe she couldn't have kids of her own so had to take out all that nastiness on other people's kids instead? Some right nutters out there!
The fact that horrible, horrible woman only got found guilty of Manslaughter is an utter disgrace! That poor family and that poor baby :(
It's because she's a white female
Judge needs to hand her no less than 40 years she's evil
Agree ..
Manslaughter is 6 to 7 year. She will be out in 3 or less.
@nikkijayne4451 with a bit of luck she will get into trouble in prison and get extra time because the other woman won't give her an easy time that's for sure woman are worse than the men especially when it comes to children
@@nikkijayne4451 some cases you would be right but in this case there can not be any mitigation evidence, manslaughter conviction needs to have some kind of reason for murder in her case the judge will recognise she is just wicked
@@Scotlandforthescottish
Judges can't sentence over the maximum. 🙄
Although it has to be said that 3 years is a long time for a baby killer in a woman's prison. She ain't going to last very long before she's put in solitary.
The owner of the nursery should be in the dock on the same charge. The nursery was hugely and illegally understaffed. It should have been one worker for each 3 babies. Instead 2 workers were looking after 16 babies by themselves. I am glad the woman who did this is going to jail but the owners are equally culpable in my opinion.
Good point.
Maybe but nothing can excuse how this woman acted.
At the end of the day the owners don't see the children or adults in care private homes as people. All their clients are to them is £££. Greed is the driving force and untill the owners are prosecuted these practices of gross neglect will keep happening. Other employees must have seen this evil witches hate campaign against this wee girl, and probably others, why didn't they use the whistle-blower act and contact the care inspectorate, they are just as culpable in there complacency. This girls demise could have been avoided. I hope the family sue tiny toes until it has a tiny bank balance, not that it will make the parents feel any better.
I dont think the comment was excusing her. Shes right. the owner of the nursery is equally guilty and should be charged. @@paddymeboy
Definitely true
Nanny cams in all child care facilities where parents can look in at any time their child is at the place.
How about mummy stay at home and nurture, love and be the first teacher to her child and experience the uniqueness that no other human will have between them? 🤔
What about the people who employed this person?
What a cruel woman. Life imprisonment.
R.I.P Bbay girl💔
I cant even begin to imagine the horror and pain this family has gone through. It was.such a cruel, despicable thing to do to a defenceless baby it beggars belief.
Rip little girl ❤
How did no other employee/adult observe her escalating behaviour and cruelty towards Genevieve throughout the day? Why didn’t they follow their safeguarding policy by sheltering Genevieve from harm whilst reporting the abuse to authorities? I feel there are other guilty parties involved, not of physical abuse, but for emotional abuse; they condoned Roughley’s treatment & behaviour towards Genevieve by ignoring the abuse and not intervening; as well as the negligent care, lack of concern and failure to provide safety to Genevieve.
Absolutely disgraceful that this evil person took her away from you.
So sorry for your loss remember your happy little baby girl ❤
I hope the inmates give the baby justice, my heart breaks for the poor baby & her parents 😢
Ghastly woman, that little baby 😢
I’ve seen people who come across so sweet but are so cruel to little babies/ children in nursery/ child minders. I would rather be poor then leave my baby with a stranger
Parents try to keep your child at home, without getting to this extreme case, teachers tend to be very rough and cruel to little children. I was teacher and that is why I left.
What that beast's mother said in court was wrong - she 100% IS a monster.
This country is hitting bottom line now honestly I use to leave in Germany Denmark Poland so yes mainly Europe but UK its just getting ridiculous recently its just shocking with cost of leaving numbers of prime ministers knife crimes its not nice place at all
RIP little angel 😢❤
This is another case when the people who are supposed to protect them are the ones who should never have been near them in the first place. The agony and pain of the family who have been robbed of the opportunity to see the little girl grow up to be a beautiful little lady, must be more than they can bear. My heart goes out to the family. I will light a candle in Genevieves memory.
I know the pain of loss. My beautiful full term granddaughter was born sleeping in December 2019. Nothing prepares you for the pain of the sudden loss of a child.
Babies should NOT be in nurseries
Tell that to the DWP.
No it should be made a lot easier for a mum to bring her child up. Unfortunately the bills have to be paid and there’s no special allowance. If mums were paid a good allowance for the first 5 years of the child’s life then that would save child care costs and result in a more stable home life surely without other people helping to raise your kid.
The days when a young family could survive on the wages of just one person are long gone. I think you may be out of touch.
No they shouldn't but parents need to work to survive. How old are you 90 ? most parents have no choice. People trust nursery's like people trust schools they supposed to be checked properly.
@@barrysteven5964agree....
Poor little one. I don't know the story or details.
My prayers go out to the parents and family and of course, Genevieve. ❤
Wicked world.
Why was it manslaughter?. Today is the first time i heard about it
Female privilege , and you feminist claim you get equal punishment for crimes your a joke.
The child was strapped face down to a bean bag and presumably suffocated after being left unattended. Manslaughter rather than murder will have likely been because they couldn't prove intent or planning. It could just as easily have been an unnecessary and horrific accident. No excuse for it either way, obviously.
There should be strict personality tests for anyone wanting to work with kids
Two extremely low paid workers looking after 16??? People are saying 9 month olds are not challenging. Any child can be extremely challenging. A load of children with a low paid, possibly poorly trained and certainly emotionally unequipped person who clearly became irritated, irrational and overwhelmed. As a mother of 5 I know the feeling of being so overwhelmed and wanting to harm my child in a split second. I never did, thank god, I was emotionally well resourced, and conditioned from a calm home with no physical violence. If we want these things to stop happening we can’t keep saying these individuals are ‘evil’. That’s so simplistic, the hardest jobs in the world such as care of elderly and young children paid absolute pittance. It’s hugely stressful and challenging work which requires resources of patience and emotional intelligence that are not available to everyone especially those who have themselves come from violent and/or chaotic and abusive backgrounds. We react under stress in the ways we have been shown and modelled.
If we want change as a society though we need more intelligent and compassionate analysis of why these things happen. It’s natural to feel so angry and helpless at such a powerfully terrible thing happening but we should be evolving past the point of just wanting to hurt and punish those who do these things and find a way to stop the deaths of young children. They are more at risk of being killed when under one years old and currently one child every week in the U.K. is killed at the hands of their carers (mostly parents) too simplistic to say they are all evil.
My prayers are with these poor parents and may the innocent sweet girl rest in peace .
INSANE. 14 years is a total INSULT.
I hope this is taken to a higher court.
😡😡😡

Aint no way she is not gonna get got!

Of course, it’s the English Race of Peace 😂😂😂
Women are supposed to take care of the vulnerable children . It’s shocking, how on earth will the family ever come to terms with that
100%, I saw rough treatment and screams in every nursery I was teacher. So sad!
I’m totally aghast at this story, how can a 9mth old be too hard to handle. When I heard this story today the 1st thing I did was ring my daughter who has worked in child daycare for 14yrs and asked her how can things like this happen. She told me there were so many guidelines not followed in this nursery for a start. No baby should ever be left unattended on a beanbag, bouncer etc. She listed load of errors in this case, baby been put facedown strapped unto a beanbag, no one checking on this child at very regular intervals etc. She went on and on. Surely if you think a 9mth old is too much “hard work” you’re in the wrong job. Maybe you’re having an off day and the child needs bit more attention ask another member of staff to take over. Please anyone in this job that feels like it’s hard work, leave the job. At end of day this job is not a job, it’s a dedication. You have to enjoy it. No family should ever go through this nightmare EVER. Does my daughter enjoy her job everyday, no she doesn’t but 99% of time she loves it. But even on day she’s not feeling it r it feels too much she knows she’s going home in lot of hours, she’ll ask for help or will take a minute to herself and then go back again.
Not sure why it took 5 weeks, maybe because defence of a Monster dragged it out with Gaslighting Victim Blaming tactics of a Baby/Child again.
...This Monster literally lived up to her Name, but everyone who witnessed her behaviour/enabled her/allowed her to freely work Abusing Children, should be punished too.
Strong man to be able to say these words without breaking.
How is it you've got people saying this woman should get 40 years nd is evil, but when I say she should be charged with murder it gets deleted? Use your brains, mods - if you aren't just robots.
Rubbish! I don't care how short staffed or poorly paid you are, you do not treat a baby this way. Even I, who has never had children or worked with young children knows that! I used to be a secondary school teacher, regularly had 2 classes in the dining hall because of staff shortages, yet not one child came to harm. I was in charge of 50 to 60 pupils on my own!
How did this killer wing her way into a trusting role working & caring for babies. And yes she treated Baby Genevieve with contempt. Thank goodness she has been put behind bars sooner than later.
She should have been charged with murder and sentenced to life!
Poor parents that baby sitter should locked up for life what person does that to a poor baby .
Close that nursery down. All staff should be jailed for life

When being at work means more to you than your children this is the outcome in some cases. Before anyone comes for me, I would give up my job to raise my child and not leave them in the hands of others as clearly other's cant be trusted with small and precious things. Do as you wish but if its not close family my kids aint going there unattended.
Ewwww
Yeah you give your job up and go on benefits and give the child a life it clearly deserves coming from a person's womb like you
How insensitive.
Nice attempt at victim blaming there oh holier than thou ! It isn’t as black and white as that, some parents, some mums and dads have to go back to work whilst their children are very young, otherwise who exactly is funding yours and your children’s lifestyle. Some parents don’t have the luxury of having family members or trusted friends close by who can take care of their children either.
If you are paying for professional childcare and a professional nursery, then they have a duty of care exactly the same as schools and school teachers do too. Did you never put your kids through school then either, children start school age 4, so it is almost the same situation. We have to trust the professionals we entrust to do their job properly !
Instead of victim blaming the mother here, try applying or illiciting some common sense to the situation and to the very people (the nursery) who so drastically failed this child and this family. Not the parents fault !
@@pauloates5972 the truth usually hurts but people need to hear it, or you just gonna keep leaving you most vulnerable in the care of a complete stranger sniling sweetly in your face.. more fool you if that's the case. Fqct is when you leave your child with a stranger you are taking a huge risk everytime, parents seem to forget that until its too late and their child has been assaulted or worse. Being sensitive is why people get away with this stuff.

Why is nobody asking why a 9 month old baby is at a nursery instead of with its mother?
Maybe because people have to work to pay bills?
@@mrspaghetti7461 Such as the nursery bill? - No excuse for neglect of a mother's primary duty which is to her child. 9 months is FAR too young to be seperated from the mother, it is still at breast-feeding age, and children seperated from their natural mothers at such an early age grow up with personality disorders involving lack of empathy and inability to bond.
It could be said that a woman who is unwilling to nurse her own child (at whatsoever sacrifice) is herself a damaged person, unfit for motherhood and should have used contraceptives.
