    sorry about the annoying buzzing sound in the background that is the sound of the oscillating fan I have in the room. It was a very hot day and I needed this in order to get this work done
    this video is meant to help people who need information on these topics. That being said ...Any work done on your Xbox... YOU are responsible for .. be absolutely sure to research whatever it is you're trying to do before you attempt anything...
    in this video you will see a whole bunch of different things related to the original Xbox such as capacitor replacement. Ultra ATA 80 conductive wire upgrade. On Aladdin XT modchip installed on 1.4 Xbox. Upgraded hard drive 500gb Western Digital blue. is well as Aladdin XT flashing with executor to bios. And you get to see emulationstation up and running. this Xbox is not in the best condition. The case had a couple cracks on top but I think it has more sentimental value to the owner. I'm glad I was able to fix it up for him it's looking very very good video quality looks excellent as well. That being said at the end of the video you can see the Xbox2HDMI wire that I've made running on this version 1.4 in 1080i. The image looks amazing. This adapter does not use any external power and still looks great.
    if you would like to make your own Xbox to HDMI adapter you can follow this tutorial video I've made a little while ago here is the CZcams link

    What I do is just let the Xbox run for about 10 minutes, then unplug it and hold down the power button for 10 seconds to discharge any current left then remove the heatsinks. They usually come off butter smooth while the chips are still warm. That way there's no risk of damage.

    Great video. Helped me save my 1.6b xbox. Funny thing is that the caps that you replaced looked fine but the clock cap was bulging. I replaced it... 1 farad at 2.7v. Then turned it on...and the 3300uf caps you replaced blew. Guess they were old. Replaced them. To get the heat sink gunk off the cpu/gpu and heat sinks...I used acetone. (aka nail polish remover). Still waiting on caps. Thanks for the video!!

    • @Retroprofrank
      @Retroprofrank  Před 3 lety

      Replacing the capacitors and then XBox isn't only needed when they blow. This should be changed every 5 to 10 years at the maximum. Depending on how much it's used not only that but good clean capacitors will strengthen up your signal making the image look a lot clearer could clear up any fuzziness in the video picture as well. All in all it's a great practice to do anytime I get an Xbox in my hands

  • @AlDim000
    @AlDim000 Před rokem

    This "black tar" / "thermal paste" is actually a phase change material pad (it gets softer when heated up) which still works well on most of these consoles unless they've gone through an extreme amount of power cycles. This is why most OG Xbox units have a very minimal temperature change (if any) when changing the PCM to a thermal paste.

    Excellent video!
    I've got three modded OG's, and the soft-modded one has the header soldered in but no mod chip. My original one from back in the day with its Xecuter mod chip, and two from eBay that were modded. When I saw the bare header on a modded xBox I figured that was what was going on (someone installed a mod chip to do the mod and then removed it).
    The hard-modded one from eBay is a bit of a head scratcher. It has a X-DU mod chip, a sticker in the center of the bottom of the case in Japanese? Chinese? Korean? as well as English. At first I didn't think it was from Japan since the sticker states that its operating voltage is 220 - 240 volts and Japan is 100 volts.
    But installed on the hard drive is a video clip that plays upon bootup of a cute Asian girl modelling on a set with an announcer speaking what sounds to be Japanese, and emulators that include games that expressly forbid their distribution in North America, and others that are only in Japanese.
    I will take exception to installing electrolytic capacitors *backwards* making them go pop. The v3.1 040 CPU board on an Amiga 4000 has not one, but three caps installed backwards from the factory. They rarely cause a problem, most A4000 owners don't even realize it. Only worth fixing when doing a full cap overhaul of the board. That's not to say it's a good idea to install caps backwards, and I fixed my caps on my A4000.
    As for wrestling, we would have to go back to the late 60's early 70's for me. :)
    *Forgot to specify. :)

      Yes you can but like everything you modify is done at your own risk. If you do not flush the proper bios you can brick your system entirely

  • @ZeroHourProductions407

    Okay, one question I have to ask since this video brings it up.
    I've been trying to upgrade the ide cable on my xbox consoles readily, and failing every time. Why? because the dang key on the connector is always in the opposite direction. The only way I can fit it with the key(s) in place is forcibly stacking the drives and putting most of it underneath the dvd drive. I even tried (while Fry's electronics was still around) to make a cable myself, and failed miserably. HOW and where do you get the cables that will work?! Can you even get them anymore?

    • @Retroprofrank

Because like, i have a box of ide ribbon and rounded cables on hand, and I've found one trend: every single cable that didn't comr from an Xbox console, is keyed the wrong way. Which means I can't use any of them in any of my consoles.
