  • Oil leaks are very dangers and a fire hazard. In this video I will show you step by step how to change the valve cover gasket in most 6 cyl BMW cars. Its almost the same process for most cars so that video might help you change valve cover gaskets in a different model car. Thank you for watching.

    A mechanic shop quoted me:
    Valve cover full kit $600
    Spark plug tube $ 72.54 (6 x $12.09)
    Spark Plug $168.24 (6 x $28.04)
    Labor $1260
    Tax $200
    The total price for the valve cover kit and 6 spark plugs with tubes = $2322.58
    I can do the spark plugs easily so I don't know why I was quoted that when I just need valve covers only. That's about $1000 for valve cover labor? That seems crazy from a non-dealer mechanic shop. I am going to do this myself watching your video! I've seen valve cover kits around $80-$120 on Amazon and eBay

    i recommend replacing the entire valve cover and the gaskets. over time the valve cover expands and contracts. it's plastic cover that expands and contracts.

      It’s true, Just depends on the condition of the cover and how many miles on the car.

    Hi, My bmw E83 crankcase vent valve went bad with pressure in engine & blow out my valve cover gasket. Do you think it could have damage any other seals?

    • @a2zautomasters862
      @a2zautomasters862  Před 3 lety

      It could damage the rear main seal or the front main seal. You really cannot tell unless the job is done and the engine is clean and then you look for more leaks.

      Take a look on the pass side of the engine and back if you see any oil leaking on the exhaust manifold there, most likely you have to change it. 👍🏻

    My mechanic says don’t bother replacing the gasket and do the whole valve itself which is far more expensive .. any thoughts ?

    • @a2zautomasters862
      @a2zautomasters862  Před 3 lety +2

      You mean the valve cover it self? I honestly don’t see why he want to change the whole cover unless the cover is cracked or has a problem, you don’t have to change it.

      @@a2zautomasters862depends on age and mileage. PCV valve is a known failure on the N52 and it's integrated into the valve cover.

      @@omarpulido8502 that’s true and it causes failures on seals and gaskets bc of the pressure inside the crankcase causing major oil leaks.

      @@enriquedavalos9170 also you can get the small plastic Zip ties and cut 2-3 strips 1/4in each and insert them where the bolt goes then install the bolt back. It should hold very well. Or you do it right and drop a Helicoil in there.
