VatiVidia is somewhere having a heart attack after hearing "dark souls doesn't really have a story" lol
Lets be honest, Dark Souls games story is full of speculations accepted by the community as facts. Yeah it has a lot information provided by items and environment, but most things are left open to the player.
Its a good thing? Subjective. I personally play souls games for the gameplay and dont really bother with the story. While i see the reason why is this way, to give the feel of being clueless in the world u are, makes a lot of players to miss important plot stuff, because not everybody can see every clue.
Vaati is having an aneurysm.
White Shadows while i play for gameplay myself also, i heard people say that the environment tells u the story, so while i still don't think about it alot, i admire the dark beauty behind the game and try to make the story in my head as much as possible
Well you can't say lores are the main stories. I think this video meant a classic main storyline (questline?) like other RPG games like Elder Scrolls and Dragon Age that Dark Souls lacked (at least not as clear as the others)
Well the gameplay and level design is what 98% of From's effort goes to, and the complexity and challenging nature of the combat is what allures us to the series.
However, as much as I enjoy piecing together item descriptions and watching lore videos, most of it IS just speculation. At that point, the whole cryptic 'dark beauty' thing gets kind of annoying, cause we'll just never get answers as to what the creators intended. Also, some people do take it wayy too seriously and have like 'in-depth analytical sessions' where they theorise and discuss it like some religious cult.
A more solid approach to the lore with maybe a few more cinematic cutscenes, more detailed descriptions, and possibly a visible and more accessible story would actually make the players fall in love with the game again. Because it wouldn't just be the weapons and the enemies now; you would also be immersed with the world and the lore implications.
The Souls series isn't special because its hard, its special because it's a testament to game design. The design of these games is what makes them stand out; I have never played another game as enthralling, intellectually designed, and fun as hell all at once. Good on you, Fromsoftware. I hope other developers follow in your footsteps.
puffwad other developers are so focused on fps,i miss the rpg/playformers games that used to come out
Love the profile picture!
there is a dark beauty behind the souls games, i will say that. so far, every other game i played or seen have yet to match that. the day they come up with another dark fantasy medieval game or better than that, believe me, I WILL BE WATCHING
Yes, expect that dark souls 1 has a lot of bad game design. But the world design is one of the best I have ever seen.
+Fossegrim How does it have bad game design??
"Dark Souls 1 didn't give you a motivation" EXCUSE YOU. OSCAR IS ALL THE MOTIVATION I NEED.
At least they told you to ring 2 bells though. I had no idea what i was supposed to be doing in ds3
Poor Oscar and his fat rolls.
"The ability to dual-wield basically anything"
Are you sure you're not talking about Dark Souls 2 here?
I think he meant they also brought that in from Dark Souls 2, although he didn't specify that.
who else liked the video before they watched it? because darksouls.
blind fanboyism isn't a good thing
Louie Jackson I really wanna like but i cant ruin the 69 likes
Louie Jackson very much agreed
Louie Jackson, that's dumb. if you'd watched the video, you'd know that they confused a lot of things.
Louie Jackson Me
Dark Souls : Prepare to Die Edition is my favorite. I still remember the first time I read the title, and I was like I have to get this. 10/10 would die again
Stout Gaming same here
yup back only said prepare to die I was hooked
If only I could erase my memories of dark souls 1 and play it again.
10/10 would waste 8 hours in undead burg again
would spend another 5hrs trying to kill the first silver knight in undead burg
Joshua emuslan black knight*
Sorry for being a nazi :D
My favorite soulsborne game is the one that says FROMSOFTWARE when you load the game.
That’s a good choice
Me too
But then there's the one that says FROMSOFTWARE. I can't pick just one!
Same
Gold. Will be saying this regularly when asked.
Demon Souls - Never played
Dark Souls - Artorias & Sif, Sun Bro, Onion Bro,
Dark Souls 2 - PvP
Bloodbourne - Incredibly deep story
Dark Souls 3 - Well deserved end boss
Yes. Yes.
Which game is your favorite? Choose carefully.
gameranx umm I like games.
gameranx i love you please love me back
Has to be Knack, ALL time favorite.
gameranx undertale. period.
Dark Souls 3
I beat gwyn for the first time today
Congratulations buddy. You actually accomplished one of the hardest feat in Dark Souls. Beating the damn thing.
oh man, I remember when i finally beat Gwyn... I felt so accomplished and ready for Dark souls 2 since I beat it a year before Dark souls 2 came out but it was announced...
Snakeeyez470 Well, Gwyn can be very challenging If you dont use any parrys. with parrys he is kinda ridiculously easy.
Well done, celebrate by praising the sun and go finish the other games.
Snakeeyez470 is it bad I had more trouble in send fortress than in anor londo I even beat ornstein and smough on my first try
"A sense of accomplishment". EA THIS IS HOW YOU DO IT RIGHT
Exactly what I thought 🤣
"dark souls doesn't have a story"
go talk to the first npc in the game instead of thinking he's an enemy
I'm gonna admit it.... I cried during the credit scene of Dark souls 3
King Fancy did u fight the side bosses like ocieros? That gives u more
Sean Wattsmoore yes, I defeated all the bosses, just knowing that this might be it for the dark souls games is really saddening
To be honest its a good thing it is because it would end up getting stale is it happened so often besides its not the last souls game, just the last one for a long while...
Gord Lord I've come to accept that it's a good things it's ending, and Hey we got one more dlc and it's looking pretty damn good
It actually is the end, at least for now, we won't be seeing any more Dark Souls for many years, after the last DLC scheduled to be released this march... :(
Dark Souls II will always have a special place in my heart. It was the game that helped me get out of depression and changed my outlook of a lot of things in the world.
mr. butthorn Dark souls 2 made me wanna kill myself
LOL
Hey at least it had poise and no instant backstabs, amirite?
@Kokolino2185
Just like your avatar make me kill myself
Dark Souls 2 put me into depression.
just a small criticism, you can't really duel wield everything in ds3 because your L1 button is basically useless, in ds2 you could literally duel wield everything and you could even power stance with certain combos. Just a small thing.
Retired Channel Stupid. Ur right hand weapon attack is R1 and ur left hand weapon ATTACK is L2 lol
Wow you clearly have not played dark souls 3
wildpenguin pretty sure that's the point. L1 becomes a pointless button if you duel wield. Unless you're off handing the FUGS, you'll get guard broken. DS2 duel wielding was superior.
Ds2 sucked
@@yikes6969 that's subjective. It's my favorite, but it clearly isn't meant for everyone.
My favorite Dark Soul is my ex-girlfriend's
That’s depressing, but perfectly fits the story of Dark Souls
Dark Souls 1 has the best locations in any game I have played, I love the Dark fantasy feel and very Medieval atmosphere, Medieval is my favorite time period and this is the most medieval RPG I have played other than Baldur's Gate and Oblivion
Gord Lord I love how all the levels are connected in some way. Also I like that you can walk to every area in the game if you wanted too. No teleporting required.
discovering those shortcuts was the best feeling ever
Gord Lord I mean, we can't ignore the House of Fun...
Gord Lord. ever played Dragons Dogma? gg
Bloodborne 2 pls.
I would give my left nut for Bloodborne 2 and Dark Souls Remastered or a Souls/Borne compilation pack... One can dream
I'd give my asshole for a Bloodborne 2
Demon's Souls 2 please. I don't know why, but the feeling of Demon's Souls is completely different than Dark Souls, so the game feels like it should not be replaced by other souls games. And the weapon upgrade system was awsome.
Maybe an annoucement is coming for Bloodborne 2 at E3 2017 :)
ARVINDER DHANOA I feel like the graphics wouldn't be as good if it was on all platforms.:p
“Dark Souls doesn’t have a story”
Excuse me sir
Actually it does
It's just u have to find it. Cutscene, NPCs, exploration, and probably other ways and also loading screens I believe
Tim Inglessia duh doy dumb ass we know
It’s called the lore
It saddens me when people ignore how DS2 influenced DS3, and just look at Bloodborne.
How the fuck did dark souls 2 influence dark souls 3 and not bloodborne
@@stickyy_fingaas Let's see, power stances, useful duel wield, bonfire warping, hexes, melee infleuncer sorceries, shitty miracles and more. Ds3 sadly still isn't as good as DS2, as ds3 is udder garbage. If we were measuring DarkSouls dick sizes, ds3 would be an Asian.
@@shnouth5391 Power stances I get, but everything else you said is like 'oh you can walk in dark souls 2 that's why you can walk in ds3'
@@stickyy_fingaas Well do you understand what I mean by all of them. I meant melee influencer sorceries as in the sorceries are no longer a way for damage, but a way to control the battlefield, ds3 did the same thing just with weaker spells, so it was influenced by it. I actually have no idea what I meant by useful duel wield as dark souls 3 does not have any special advantages for duel wielding. Bonfire warping also doesn't really count in the end as it was in ds1. So I mostly agree with you, but it is not a good thing that it wasn't influenced by it. Dark Souls 3 was trying way to hard to be Bloodborne, but it just couldn't, it came out as an easy game that has a lack of poise and a lack of rythm in their combat.
NPC #4926492 Dark Souls 3 is “udder” (*utter, an udder is a cow’s boob) garbage? You’ve lost all credibility right there and your opinion no longer holds any weight.
There really needs to be a DeS remaster on PS4
yes a million times
Aaaand pc of course :) and bloodborne too people would buy it a lot including me
Hanzistorr Hanz Yeah PC would be nice I'd love to play it on my PC but I doubt Sony would do that. For PC we'll have to wait for a emulator
Which i dont think will ever come. I mean PS3 emulator just recently released in a playable state, but it still has a long way to go to be perfect.
not until Sony and Atlus make a deal(Atlus has the rights over Demon's Souls outside Japan).
Bloodbourne is my favourite. I really loved the lovecraftian horror style and the visceral fast paced combat. I loved seeing an enemy for the first time and thinking "WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT THING?".
Black Dahlia and that mindfuck ending
Black Dahlia well said!
Mine too! The fast paced combat was really fun also! :D
If only they did not include that buttonmasher design in DS3, as the PVP went to shit the moment they threw Bloodborne into the formula.
And Trick Attacks... ahhh, good ol' Trick Attacks
casuals
Lol wut
No Name *Never*
GIANT DAD THE LEGEND did you spell it like casual? Its casul you casul.
You can tell when someone is a casul when he can't even spell the word right
The legend never dies
Demon Souls: Incredibly fun. Well made for its date of release. Though it felt slightly rushed, the atmosphere is my favourite of all Souls games to date.
Dark Souls: World design. It's phenomenal. It's the biggest plus for this game for me... The scale of the enemies you fight is also pretty amazing. Seeing the intro cutscenes then eventually fighting the lords is wonderful. (Except for Bed of Chaos).
DS2: I enjoyed this game a hell of a lot. Though, not so much at release. It wasn't as good as it is now (SOTFS version)... World design isn't as good as DS1 though, this is in no way bad. The environments in this game are very good and well implemented. The weapons in this game are miles better than Dark Souls and the overall movement feels less clunky. I found this to be the better game in traditional standards, but DS1 is the better Dark Souls game.
Bloodborne: A huge contrast to previous Souls games. More than it would seem at first. Has a wonderful setting which suits the action very well. Very memorable boss fights (like all Souls game minus a few). A seriously solid entry.
DS3: Bloodborne and DS1's love child. It takes the best of both games... Though, not completely up to previous standards. It's an all rounder of sorts. It looks amazing, and feels better. The movement is the best in the series and this game had the most memorable boss fights for me so far. Though, the PVP is a disgrace. The only way I can have fun with it, is with ridiculous builds for invasions. Though, in my opinion, this game followed the standards set by its predecessors... And improved on a lot of the previous aspects.
My favourite Souls games in order:
1: Darks Souls 2
2: Dark Souls
3: Dark Souls 3
4: Demons Souls
5: Bloodborne
Though I believe them all to be masterpieces. I believe none to be vastly superior to the other, only in certain mechanics do they differ greatly. DS2 is my favourite, mainly due to fond memories with friends. Objectively I think DS3 is the best entry thus far.
Prophetic Rain-Maker I completely agree, but I'd put bloodborne on nr.2, because in my opinion it has the best bosses. And I love the agressive playstile!
Syke. If you play DS3 the pvp sucks.
And best story!
This list is cancer. DS2 is not even a proper Soulsborne game.
Have you every played bloodborne?
favourite souls game.Bloodborne.Fast paced and bloody,of course, with intense boss fights that filled me with rage and an overall wtf am i seing felling
kostas skoulidis if only the pvp was good we would have the perfect game
Connor Stuhlemmer it wasn't that bad, maybe unbalanced but still fun.
kostas skoulidis if you count it as a souls game that is. Many people don't, I personally class it as a fromsoft game still great tho so I get your point lmao
It's not a dark souls game.
Possibly Mid-Tier Debater your wrong their mate.
no joke Dark Souls 1 got me back to gaming
its a real masterpiece great story amazing bosses sick level design awesome NPC's
Leo Percara it has an amazing story but told vaguely
the best story ever in video game history. you just need to do tons of research. i recommend Hawkshaw. They made a 1 hour 30 dark souls 1 timeline video
Same here man.
Its
what
got
me
into
gaming.
I too enjoy fighting the tutorial boss 3 times and having an end game of nothing but trash. Looking at you Lost Izalith
This series is by far a classic with taking difficulty to another level
Hey Gameranx, could you do more videos like this one, reviewing the major games of a recent franchise? This one was awesome!
Sincerely I prefer dark souls III for it's enriched world and character customization design but also elements form all the other games
D
Yuji Fauveau it was the first one i played and i loved it i played every single one now and i agree seeing everything from the old games feels right
omnidash Red thanks !
Yuji Fauveau I love how you can see most of the other areas from one spot, similar to ds1
enriched world? it looked great dont get me wrong but to me it felt like a lot of throw backs to the other games for me it lacked its own identity as a souls game.
bloodborne because of the enviroment and feel of the game and the atomsphere
i didnt like the enviroment, most of it was way to similar, dark souls had different enviroments
i liked it but it was mainly just dark and repetitive
Jodopie j this. I didn't expect a whole h.p. lovecraft plot hovering over my head the whole time, and it turned my view of it from a straightforward action game to something much, much deeper.
Jodopie j and the music
THAT MOTHER FUCKING MUSIC
Bloodborne feels so different from other games one would forget its part of the series. It doesn't look, feel, play like anything else in the souls series. While Souls has been mostly medieval, BB is Victorian. Its such a different game. And its so fantastic because of it. Best game in the series in my opinion.
I want dark souls to end with DS3 cause that ending...was perfect and i want it to stay that way
I think that was last of soul series. I think Miyazaki said that ds3 is last of soul series.
@Reyansh gamer I meant the dark souls series bro :)
@Reyansh gamer in my head the painting of the new world from dark souls 3 is bloodborne
Unpopular opinion i actually really like DS2 SOTFS
I honestly don't get the continued hate. Scholar fixed everything actually wrong with the original.
Jordan Adams I personally enjoy Dark Souls 2 Scholar of The First Sin but I wouldn’t say it fixed “everything” wrong with Dark Souls 2.
its my favorite too
DS2 is the best I agree
Sameeeee it was my first souls game
I'm so glad people appreciate the fact that dark souls 3 is actually good.
_e _e all souls game are awsome and the 3 suprised me
After the hate it got, yeah good to see some appreciation for what it did well.
Bloodborne is my favourite game
Demon's is my favorite, but I may be jaded, because it was my first. I actually missed Dark Souls the first time around, so I'm enjoying the remaster on Switch.
Since demons i been snagging all the other ones but demons was such a beautiful pain in the ass 😄
Dark souls 1 was my favourite because of the way each area connect. It made me feel like there was always a way back to level up and buy new weapons and spells.
Dark souls 1 is the ultimate nostalgia that no game in the series can fill, however, Dark souls 3 takes the cake as the best Souls game in my opinion.
I don´t know, but the last Dark Souls feels too much for casual Gamer. It was a good Game, but i missed the challenge.
Demon's souls, dark souls and bloodborne are the only great ones honestly. Dark souls 3 was good and dark souls 2 was pretty poor.
ResonanceBlade I'm on ng+ 3 and it's hard af. Probably cause I'm only level 149 but still
Well you probably felt it was easy because it was the 3rd DS game you played.I played DS3 first then DS, then DS2 and DS3 again and I think DS3 is the hardest one.DS2 is just easy and DS just has a more basic combat system than DS3.I don't have BB but I have played ~20hrs on my friend's PS4 and I don't think its that hard nor that good.
I would rate them DS3 then DS then BB and lastly DS2 (it was just too easy).
ResonanceBlade I would agree but realize I also feel like by time DS3 came out we were already much more experienced playing souls games compared to playing DS1 or 2
They're all special to me.
Same .. cant just choose .. its like when ask mom .. who is your favorite son
The music shift that happens between demon and Dark Souls is incredible and fits the voiceover amazingly well. Great job guys
my first dark souls game that i finished is dark souls 2 and to be honest its my favorite dark souls game because of its world and the combat felt abit more smooth, more responsive...atleast for me. I also liked the bosses more in Dark souls 2 then dark souls 1 i find them to be more fun to fight. Is there anyone else that feels that way or is it just me?
I feel the same way. I know a lot of people hate that most bosses in dark souls 2 are humanoids in armour, but I loved it. It made me feel like I was taking on someone with similar skills to mine and not just some big monster.
Dark Souls 1 bosses were easier, by far
Even compared to Bloodborne bosses
I want bloodborne 2
luk If they do that I hope they make it for all platforms because I want everyone to enjoy the greatness
Gardevoir The Beast true
I hope not
Gardevoir The Beast I want it to but it's owned by Sony.
Return back to the dream old Hunter.
Guys, you can't all be first, just *ACCEPT* it.
i was first tho...
*ackshept it*
DS2 and BB.
They're all so damn great, though. I remember my first play in Demon's. That prison level with the cthulu heads...atmosphere with a capital ATMOSPHERE
it's been 8 years!!!! and I still haven't finished dark souls 1
Koshish Shrestha same lolol
Get gudder
Wow, am can't wait for ds1 remastered.....
Level 1 pyro run,,, bring it on
Koshish Shrestha Trash
Lol you’re trash
Dark Souls hands down is my favorite souls game
i hope demon souls and darksouls 1 gets a re-release on the ps4 with the game mechanics/ the coop/ pvp/ graphics of darksouls 3
Ps4 exclusive to piss off xboys
Although demon's souls would be ps4 exclusive anyway
Then they would no longer be the same game
@OscarofAstora Man you ps4 master race dudes are something else. Why don't we just all agree it would be fucking fantastic for Demon's Souls to get ported to all current generation platforms, not just Asianstation.
The Leprechaun lol 'Asianstation'
The Leprechaun while I would love for demon sulz to be released to all, it does bepong to Sony, even tho Sony said it sucked at their first glance. also, don't worry about ds1, that's already on xbone👌
I was playing through some of my older games and realized "Chakan" for the Sega Genesis shares a lot of similarities to the original Demon Souls.
I might make a video comparing the two in the near future now that this inspired me.
Dark Souls II was such an all around enjoyable game...!
LQ B8 m8, i r8
Probably becos that's the only game u have played lol
*Several people are typing*
worst in the series for me, but still a solid 7/10 on it's own
@@ashen0306 Why do you say that all the fucking time? No it's the game I enjoyed, get over it, people have fucking opinions and some of them aren't exactly your cup of tea. Fucking absolute imbecile.
Falcon sounds sober.
Ricky Perez yea finally
Much love for my favourite game series ever
12:30, I am sorry but Bloodborne is PERFECT !
PotatoField HD he never played it like us he doesn’t know, yeah I noticed,
@PotatoField HD. No it isnt
Actually bloodborne doesen't last forever, so it's not perfect =/
@@ilyasisonepunchman6212 chalice dungeons were bullshit tho
@@adastial2104 i like em
Just starting my first playthrough of Dark Souls 3. It´s my first time with a soulsborne and I already know I´m playing all of the others as soon as I finish this one. These games are amazing, they feel very distinct compared to anything out there, and once you play them, you get to see how they´ve influenced the entirety of gaming. Love it.
Evolution of Dark Souls: It gets harder and harder unlike you with your girlfriend
Domofun LOL fail cos it doesn't
I cannot agree. Why? Well DS2 was the easiest one i think. You got like perma healing. If you were carefful you could heal up as many times as you wanted becuse Lifegems.
+ Ag govy but you also had a little bit of your health taken off everyt ime you died, to me it was jsut as hard as Dark Souls 3 if not harder.
Ag govy Same can be said of 3 because of blessed enchantment and sun priestess ring as well as the fact you get Estus back every now and again.
Sun Gaku Dark souls 2 was the easiest simply because of the ring of life protection. You can get three of them easily and carry around in your inventory. When they were all broken you could just teleport back to the hub and repair them then teleport back to where you were. It was extremely broken system and I am glad they fixed that in dark souls 3
Didn't they say Dark Souls 3 is the last of the series though?
Like, they might make other games based on Dark Souls, but we apparently aren't getting anymore.
But in my opinion bloodborne is a souls game to, or at least soulslike. We will get mor soulslike games. And soulslike is good enough for me :D
Miozayki said he all good for another dark souls game he has ideas
I think they need to stop for some time. Because they are breaking community in small groups. They need make brake for 4 or 5 years. Or make something new but with same mechanics, like NYOH. Or make some SciFi.
SciFi resurrection explained, you got bracelet that indicates if you are alive and if you die you get printed on 3D meat printer back to live. And don't need any curse mumbo jumbo.
Kristopher Giliun hmm isn't that borderlands solution to it ?
Ah, that quiet resolve at 6:18 made my Day. :)
You hit the nail on the head. I died many many many times playing dark souls and rage quit many many times. But i kept going back, it drew me back time after time until i got what souls was all about. One of the best games I ever played (Dark Souls)
Evolution of Dank Souls: God created it OVER 6000 years ago
hue hue
Miazaki is over 6000 years old ? :)
Hanzistorr Hanz so miazaky is god?😨😨
Try Hard The Earth had been alive for 4 billion years
Try Hard 3rd millennium AD is our current time , so earth has been around for a very very long time
"The ability to duel wield almost anything"
HAHAHAHAHAHA
Also my favorite souls game is bloodborne
Lucas Lucas dual*
Lucas Lucas I'm getting it after 2 years of waiting! (You might ask me why but it's because I did the okay games first so that it wouldn't overshadow it)
I just waited for someone to point this mistake out xD
Numerous DS2 fighting possibilities ftw !
You can't play any Souls series game without finishing Dark Souls 1 first, or you're not only cheating yourself but you're cheating destiny itself
My #1 is dark souls 2 and all of them are legendary games I just prefer dark souls 2 more
Asmir Abdijovski lemme guess it was your first wasn’t it?
Me on the other hand I hate dark souls 2. I just never got into it and I don't know why, maybe it's the because of the different mechanic for me it's too stiff. I prefer both dark souls and dark souls 3
Demon's Souls was my first. DS2:Scholar is by far my favorite.
Same. Just played the trilogy and the adventure in 2 felt better.
@@wackywhoo-hoopizzaman9948 i played ds1 first and i love ds2 more
The first Dark Souls is the goat. Perfectly constructed interconnected world that doesn’t over lap, the most memorable bosses in the series, and an overall atmosphere that is second to none.
1 - Dark Souls
2 - Bloodborne
3 - Dark Souls 3
4 - Dark Souls 2
Haven't played Demon Souls.
Lord Zeraph demons souls would be 4th or 5th place too easy and too short
Lord Zeraph WOAH I think you forgot to put a 2 at the number 1 spot and I think you put a 2 at the number 4 spot by mistake
Lord Zeraph I'd agree in terms of PvE, but Das 1&2 has the best PvP
for me dark souls 2 felt to clunky with its controls and animations not to mention them adding just tonns of enemies to make it harder for me its the worst in the series
absolutely the same with me !!!!
Bloodborne by far
MrGhost370 Bloodborne easily rivals DkS for being the best souls game! But still Dark Souls wins! DkS2 has the best PvP but damn the pve sucked ass (So many shitty bosses), DkS3 definitely has the best PvE among the Souls games (Not soulsborne). But overall DkS is definitely the best! No one remembers the series because of Covetous demon! They remember it because of bosses like Gwyn and Artorias
yes, all of them
Bloodborne is gay af fam
Really great analysis of the series Falcon. I don't think I quite realized how much the previous games in the series actually affect dark souls 3. I really can't wait for the last DLC.
I’m amazed. A big video game news/journalism type channel that talked about dark souls and actually got most of what they said completely right. Nice job.
With 3000 hours on soulsborne except demons, one of the things i love is how strategic the combat system is.
Praise the sun! \[T]/

@gameranx watching your videos is making my wallet scream in pain...your descriptions of the games you talk about make me want to buy and play them all so badly haha anyways i love your videos keep up the great work
I will always love dark souls 2 it really started my love for the souls series even though some levels don't make sense (harvest valley to iron keep) I will always enjoy It
My ranking of the Souls games personally:
1. Bloodborne: I just clicked with it. I love the uniqueness of it and how it is still basically souls. The tone always feels dreadful. It's honestly the most terrifying game I've ever played because of the atmosphere of Yharnam and just the bleakness of everything.
2. Dark Souls: Although not the basis for everything, it was probably the one with the most improvements and the creation of amazing combat, bosses and level design.
3. Dark Souls 3: I agree that this is the cumulative sum of all the games and it is fantastic.
4. Demon Souls: REALLY Clunky by today's standards, but still has a lot of great charm/tone.
5. Dark Souls 2: My first experience with the souls series actually. I have a lot of nostalgia for this game and the environments are fantastic. IT IS NOT A BAD GAME AT ALL! People always say that this one sucks, which is their opinion, but I think it's an amazing game just not an amazing souls game. The only reason why this is at the bottom is that the four ahead of it are some of the best RPG's if not games of all time.
They have good reason to say why Dark Souls 2 sucks. It was a major disappointment in many aspects
DS3 is worse. Lord miyazaki did not fixed shit apart from much better bosses in DS3 compared to DS2.
Robz Sarmy Just that? Dark Souls 3 fixed pretty much everything people hated about Dark Souls 2.
Decus Extinctum Yeah, fixed poise and absorption...NOT.
SnowDropZero You probably forget that there was no poise in Dark Souls 2 either when it got released. And I take Hyper Armor over Poise any day.
My question is, have you seen or read Berserk? It's a huge inspiration for the souls series and one of the best works of fiction I've ever come across. I highly recommend you read the manga, you'll thank me later
Benjii Kahlil Yup berserk was a crazy big inspiration for ds.A lot of monsters are very similar
Epic video.
Play DS3 regularly with one of my teenage sons. Love the co-op and the boss battles. We also play the other Souls games (including Bloodborne) now and then.
I don't know what it is about the souls games, but I always seem to crave more.
Enjoying Nioh at the moment which has some DS inspiration. Also looking forward to the next DS3 dlc.
Oh and Deep Down could be good?
I feel a lot of love for Demon's Souls since it was my first of the series I literally quit on the first level for about a month until I saw someone beat the game on CZcams & realized it wasn't impossible. Once I finally beat the first level (running across the bridge with a firing dragon) I began to play the game more & more and I fell in love.
Not sure which one is the best but Dark Souls 3 is the one that I enjoyed the most. Having played all of the others thru the years, this one felt more complete. I think it took me like 90 hours in New Game to discover every inch of the world by myself and that's awesome.
The thing is Demon Souls really isn't the spirtual successor. Everyone always forgets about "Eternal Ring" which was released for the PS2 by Fromsoftware long before Demon souls on PS3. Make a comparison between King's Field and Enternal ring.
I know it's a sin on the internet, but I think DS2 is a great game. The story is so much more fleshed out than DS1 and it does a lot for the combat system with dual wielding AND THE MACE FTW
Satan
is
better
then
you
sorry.
I like dark souls 2 also.
Dark Souls 2 is my favourite
I agree.
I love DS2, It is my favorite Souls game to boot up.
Great Video, just liek the GTA one i enjoyed it.
It propably may never happen but i would love to see The Evolution of the Pokemon games seeing just how far we come from Red/Blue to Sun/Moon
believe me, dark souls have a story its my favorite since I undersood it, its just really vague, but every souls game have a story
oh and my favourite will always be DS2
they are also pretty "dark" stories...... ( heh heh, got it... dark?.... yeah i'ma sit in my corner now :( )
but seriously
going into the dlc before you fight "sif" to then figure out what happened with lord arthritis himself and how sif had to watch him suffer and die in an attempt to safe the life of his trusty wolfpartner
for sif to then walk all the way back by his lonesome self and "inform", as far as a wolf can, gwyn of the loss and then spent the rest of his days watching over what is essentially an empty grave
and once you help sif in his timecrossing situation ( because technically oolacile is a different time then lordran is placed in so sif get's to see you before you are technically even born :p
..
that reaction of recognising you from that one time way back in oolacile when you have to fight him
i :'( evri tim......... :'(
---------------------------
and the moonlight butterfly.... just why, what did that majestic creature ever do wrong :(
Nyuu while the story of Sif and Artorias was indeed a sad one, thinking about it, in Ds1 it's (if I had to rank it) would be the second saddest, as I think the most overlooked/forgotten about and ultimately the saddest in Ds1 would be Pinwheel, Pinwheel is a damn family, a father carrying the "burden" of his family (supporting them) in the literal sense too, the mother on his back providing a wife&mother's love and finally the child at the top full of energy (of course stamina regen) all fused together, and by dabbling in necromancy (and stealing Nito's rite of kindling) they came so close to giving themselves all new separate bodies, to be a proper family once more, and then the chosen undead no idea what's going sees pinwheel as an obstacle and mindlessly slaughters a family...
So yeah, that one is always "fun"
Yeesh, and let's not forget Siegmeyer of Catarina.
Helping him out is the worst decision you'll ever make if you truly care about him.
VividThought not to mention in no.3 after Yhorm, he kills himself as his promise is fulfilled, bit grim :/
Oh believe me! The Souls games have a story!
A dark, tragic, feels story. You just... gotta find it is all.
Probably the only game series to make me feel bad for killing an enemy/boss...
A certain insane fool same man.
This is a great piece
I discovered the series with Dark Souls 2 and it changed everything, I was finally hooked by a single player game. It felt good to stop playing FPS, MOBAS and other competitive game and immerse myself into a world, just like the old PS1 RPG days.
Dark souls - buffs and giant dad and dark fucking hail
Dark souls 2- magic and buffed katanas (imo the most balanced game of all)
Dark souls 3- infinite stamina very unbalanced and quality master race
Don't get me wrong I love all of the games, but they've just gone back and forth between good and bad
Jay infinite stamina?LOL no-what r u on about?!
and i thought i was the only one who knows that ds3 is imba af
Sean Wattsmoore Dark souls 3 had like bloodborne level stamina regeneration which makes the entire game so easy and so does pvp, you can literally never punish anyone for running out of stamina
In terms of PvP I guess, but not in terms of overall experience.
climax drains so many souls barely anyone used that stuff
My favorite would be DS3
Maurice Turner hmm i see you haven't been there from the start
Maurice Turner my favourite to play but ds1 for the experience imo purely bc it was my first dark souls encounter
AdMyr 22 been here from the start and 3 is my favorite
Jordy Burn I hear you dark souls has that nostalgia about it I can't let go either
I can only hope that another series of games comes along and engulfs me the way Souls did.
"Bosses that werent repetitive" (flashback to the red dragon)
took me 20 minutes
bloodborne is the most perfect RPG game I've ever played!! BTW I'm a big RPGs fan so I play alot of them
abdulrahman alawadhi witcher 3? Idk I love bloodborne but witcher 3 is good to
Nuclear 12341 it's over rated, it's good but over rated. just like pizza
+abdulrahman alawadhi So true.
Witcher 3 is heavily overrated.
Wut?
Its not as good as Dark Souls for me but its definitely not over rated! The combat system is the only downside (its easy) otherwise it deserves to be the best game of 2015.They don't put the souls games at the n1 spots probably because not many people like hard games.
Dark souls 3 is the best. Dark souls 1 is the favourite.
i like the background music. pleasant and hopeful
well, the first track at least lol
Very good video. The first one that I played was Demon's Souls and was amazing. Honestly that has to be my favorite one from a pure atmosphere perspective. It was just so dark! It was almost like watching metal album covers in motion. But from a pure game point of view I have to give it to DS2. It was haunting. I don't think the games are THAT hard, but it was more that it really forces you to take it easy. Modern games are meant to be played in a rush and fast, and that is the main thing these games changed in the "modern paradigm".
1: Dark Souls II
2: Dark Souls I
3: Dark Souls III
4: Bloodborne
Haven't played Demon's Souls just yet.
We get it your name stands for "the one true Dex" that explains your ranking..
Nic Manza Just started replaying ds2 with a dex build for the first time in any soulsborne game and man its so easy
@@theobscured_one if you have the dlc good luck on the iron passage area and the blue smelter demon
Absolute Retardation Just got to iron keep and forgot how annoying all these knights are. Still steam rolling things but the smelter demons will probably merk me
1. Dark Souls lll
2. Bloodborne
3. Sekiro
Dat dark souls 3 poise tho.
Kevin Gracey worked fine in dark souls 2.
ds3 doesnt have armor just an intricate fashion minigame
im glad kevin gracey worked fine in dark souls 2
My first fromsoft game was Bloodborne. Absolutely fell in love with the lovecraftian lore and combat and knew i had to delve into dark souls. Got 3 on sale and was absolutely blown away. Watched Viaat pretty much every day. Still have yet to beat soul of cinder and enter the ringed city. Started 1 and 2 but im taking a lil break from the series atm so i have plenty to look forward to
My Fav part of this video, the Sir Alonne theme came up during DArk Souls 2 introduction, my fav theme in all soul series!
Dark Souls 3 - being able to dual wield almost everything
kek nice one
Very good video about one of my favorite franchises. And to think that I first bought a brand new copy of Dark Souls and... 2 days later I went to the shop and changed it (now as 2nd handed) because it frustrated me. But, I remember I kept thinking about it while playing the other game. So heheheh another 2 days later I went and buy another new copy. I felt accomplished once I could keep moving forward by trying and learning. Then, I played Demons Souls and, for me, it was harder yet better in some things. Last year I played Dark Souls 2 SotFS and it felt different, but awesome as well. Then, kind of recently I bought Bloodborne but I haven't had the time it deserves to start it. But, from what I've seen, read and tried myself, it may be my favorite. After that, I know I'll play Dark Souls 3. From what I've heard it is the most polished and kind of the best, but it isn't as "fresh" and new as DK1.
MusicRed too long didnt read. yawn
honestly, best YT Video ever seen.
Nice vid man.
dark souls 1 forsure. best world design and lore in my opinion
My favorite souls game? Bloodborne.
Love, all the Kings Fields and Shadow Tower. From Soft has been nailing it since the 90's.
i am a pretty big souls fan and played demons souls dark souls 1-2-3 and bloodborne, and put a lot more hours into these games than i'm happy with
but i'll give my own little rundown
demons souls
played it after playing dark souls a lot and craving more, but couldn't realy get into it, it was a great game and very dark souls 1 like but for me it's biggest flaw was that it had no replenishing health system. not that i mind a little farming but after one area where the enemies dropped a lot of grass (healing items) i ran into the next area that basicly only dropped upgrade materials, all fine and dandy but i just couldn't be botherd to do a run or two at the previous area just so i could have a fair chance at my current level.
dark souls 1
my first souls experiance and honestly even after playing the others it's still my favorite game. realy liked the slower paced methodical way of playing. you almost had to think about every button press, and got the time to do so, that way i could easily see how and what to do to become better. that was also what i liked about the game, you could always see yourself improving and better understanding the games mechanics. for example, first playthrough i was just turtling through the game, blocking or tanking every hit. second or third playthrough i figured out how dodge rolling worked and almost just left my schield at home. and after that and some silver knight parrying practicing i just ran through the game with a parrying dagger and a giant club and roll or parry everything
dark souls 2
didn't like it as much as dark souls 1, it got a lot more fast paced so it became more of a reaction game than a game i could study. world just wasn't as well constructed, for example get to earthen peak (giant windmill castle) and take an elevator UP and somehow you end up at another giant castle floating in a sea of lava.
also in pve i felt like magic and pyromancy just wasn't as viable a playstyle, same as faith builds after the lightning spear nerf (ahh those where the day's)
pvp in ds2 was the best in the series for me, easy to connect, good fast matches, mostly good people, and most mele weapons where viable (katana's where a bit op though)
bloodborne
i'll start going a bit faster as i realize i'm writing a novel at this point
just didn't like it that much, again no replenenisable healing items although that wasn't as big of a deal as in demons souls. but again it became a whole lot faster, witch i just don't realy like in this series. also a lot of unavoidable damage, witch schoudn't be a thing because the whole idea of the souls series is that if you died or took damage that is because you fucked up. and this game got way to few weapons and maybe because of that there wasn't realy a pvp community.
dark souls 3
possibly my nr2 of the series, better world, better backstory although the story is getting a bit wierd by now (spoiler) because at the end of ds2 it was told that the world works in cycles (fire starts, everything great, fire fades, everything goes to shit, hero goes to collect souls to ether prolong the current cicle or kill the heir of fire and stop this cycle so the next can begin) but what this means is that in ds3 all these remnants of older kingdoms are thrown together on one big steamy heap, witch is just getting a bit wierd.
didn't like the pvp on this one, just way to fast paced, what i just don't like on these sort of games as i've said before
