I am priviliged to have this album on vinyl, and all the tracks are so special... jaunty, bouncy, even melodic. I saw them last year in Manchester..... the end of the session was literally 23 minutes of feedback... 23 minutes!!!! Like a plane engine overhead.... but refusing to move. The stewards were handing out ear plugs... it was intense! To play constantly like that for 27 minutes is pretty hard-core. I loved the gig and I love this band.
Autumn smells like crushed leaves, looks like blazing and dwindling branches, feels cool with the hood of my sweatshirt up, tastes like apple cider, and sounds like Strawberry Wine.
No one would still be talking about Kevin Shields & MBV if the songwriting hadn't evolved. There are a lot of people who can't stand Loveless. There are others who hate Isn't Anything. While yet others dislike the saccharine-pop of the E.P.s. This is the real power of MBV. W/a handful of albums, they've managed to appeal to distinctly different audiences & tastes...
A lot of people that "can't stand loveless"?? I gotta disagree. Most people who have heard loveless like it, minimum. That's because most people that have been exposed to loveless have a more open mind about abstract music. The average person....yes, they will most likely hate it. For sure. But as to people who have naturally come across loveless?? I seriously doubt there are "a lot of people" who hate it. Same for the other releases, really.
Misty morning in the springtime Close your eyes, crystal eyes On the darkside let the light shine Please, please stay with me tonight These lips will find strawberry wine
saw them at Moles in Bath in early Oct 1988. I'd hitched up from West Cornwall with a friend only to be told that Moles was a members only club with a capacity of about 10. Called the club and blagged a conversation with Colm who put us on the guestie. Shared a few beers and spliffs with them after. What a lovely unassuming lot. You Made Me Realise remains firmly in my Top 5 EPs of all time. You cannot underestimate their influence although they would admit the debt they to JaMC.
This is where the early MBV morphs into the later MBV.....fantastic song. I didnt realise just how good it was.....but then I seem to stand alone in thinking Loveless, as unique as it was, wasn't their finest hour.
Its hilarious that i havent heard this song in a good 5 years or so..... somehow think about it about 4 minutes ago and you have posted it a couple of days ago!!! I really like this track. Thank you for posting it.
I bought this CD about 15 years ago and always got in a sentimental an at the same time very energetic mood. When I listen to it now the feelings come back to my heart. I d love to go to a festival with friends, listen to that kind of music and get crazy.... Thx for reminding me of this song
Wine with a date at an idealic pond with a weeping willow in Springtime reminds me of this. Memories of a distant ethereal past with freinds and loved ones. Strawberry wine with your loved one is fine. :*)
Oh, those hypnotic and jangly subtly noise drenched bubblegum dream pop melodies. Too short, but oh so sweet! One of MVB's more elegant sounding songs and a personal favorite of mine
like the Byrds on speed ... lovely peeps MBV.. saw them in colchester and colm fell off his drum stool... arose and did a keith moon for the next half hour or so
Jamc might have been first combining noise and 60-girlgroup pop melodies, but mbv just did it a thousand times better, interestingly and with a more unique original crisp sound. best band since the 60's, maybe since always.
+BearWindAppleyard To be fair, The Ramones took the basic 60s girl group sounds and mixed them up with punk - perhaps the New York Dolls too. JAMC had a completely different take on it and perhaps created a new sound, with the girl group/surf/Velvets melting pot and put the feedback up front.....Never Understand ! Whichever way you cut it - it was all fantastic stuff - wish we had more of it these days!
all their different styles of music over the years has been equally as beautiful to me. never say goodbye is totally different than i only said but i love both of them the same.
my bloody valentine - strawberry wine [Verse 1] Misty morning in the springtime Close your eyes, your crystal eyes On the darkside let the light shine Please, please stay with me tonight These lips will find strawberry wine [Verse 2] I was looking at your window Lurking there beneath my feet Cherry apples, long grass meadows Close your eyes, for dreams in sleep These lips will find strawberry wine [Verse 3] Misty morning in the springtime Lurking there beneath your feet On the darkside let the light shine Think of me, don't let me keep These lips will find strawberry wine
what a brillant band, pity there isnt more music with such passion, good taste and creativness, though i guess its a good thing seeing only those who look deeper into the music scene are lucky enough to come across such good music
you're right. & i'm english. i appreciate some of slowdive's music, for example, but theres always something too sterile in comparison. it's also a visual thing. MBV have amazing visuals...
It's a lovely, simple pop song seeking a sound. Little did the band know what a radical sound would grow from beneath such songs. MBV had a whole album of such songs it strangely failed to revive after Loveless.
I'd tend to agree with you They did this very Syd Barrett-ish psychedelia very well and I think "To Here Knows When" is the best track on Loveless, which takes that sound to a totally different dimension
@BarneyRubble1968 Haha, Moles is proper fucking tiny, have you been inside? Would of been great to see them there though! I always went to there on Sundays for the U18 battle of the bands, nice little venue.
When Bilinda Butcher joined the band was the reach of perfection. It's like hear singing an angel.
Its amazing to me that a band can have the back-up vocals as the 'hook' of most of their songs.
Tempering with channel volume knobs did the trick.
Genius
This song is what you hear in your mind at the very moment you fall in love.
lovely

This song is like falling in love. It has that 60's, Mama's and Papa's sound to it.
Sevrin-13 dad rock
omg i was thinking the same thing, i love you Sevrin-13
Thinking the same
This song gets me moving instantly, I love the way it starts. I'm so glad I have this band in my life.
nice and jangly

I just can't believe how incredibly amazing this is.
Such a beautiful song... I just learned it on guitar and I can't stopped playing it!

Their finest is Isnt Anything IMO
Lucio Andriulo Agreed....that is the MBV sound right there.
Loveless was over-anticipated, so, there ya go...
Steve Loveless was something else. But if you're talking rock n roll music. This is tops.
As ever with the best, they seem to sit apart from the usual terms of assessment and categorisation

The vocal harmonies here are possibly the best ever created.
It's 1987 all the time...
were you even there
a nod to destroyer!
+Zachary German I was.....saw MBV in the early days at Darlington Arts Centre, UK. Everyone up dancing to the indiepop, fantastc days.
+conor lenihan I also like that he says it's February 1987, but Strawberry Wine didn't come out until November.
TRGB time gets distorted and the songs you correlate to certain points in life all get intertwined, especially looking back so far along so hey

This makes a great song on "road" trips.
Love at the first listening!!! Back in early 90's.
...Ahead of their time. Great sound. I remember when they released it.
Well said. I like the early stuff most because I love the catchiness of songs. I have a soft spot for the swirly guitars in loveless though.
Oh, those hypnotic and jangly subtly noise drenched bubblegum dream pop melodies. Too short, but oh so sweet! One of MVB's more elegant sounding songs and a personal favorite of mine
wow....never heard any material other than Loveless...this is AWESOME!
I can't have enough of all this freshness. It's unforgettable and also a cool song to play on a 12-strings guitar.
like the Byrds on speed ...
lovely peeps MBV.. saw them in colchester and colm fell off his drum stool... arose and did a keith moon for the next half hour or so

Glorious, classic 80's summer song . Sometimes I wish they'd stayed as this and not taken the Creation road to something less beautiful.
They got more beautiful.
“Listening to Strawberry Wine for the 131st time”
all their different styles of music over the years has been equally as beautiful to me. never say goodbye is totally different than i only said but i love both of them the same.
An enchanting band that is very much timeless.
Thank you this is excellent
Man this song is amazing!
Early MBV is the best MBV.
Definently.
Blake Sims I’m not a hipster mbv fan, but it’s better than loveless (Only Shallow, though is still the best song.)
This is great.
I can't express how beautiful this song is so I'll just leave it at that.
even though Ecstasy and Wine is not a studio album, it is my favourite by My Bloody Valentine.
Love how the back up vocals are the hook in this song.
this song gets better every time i hear it!!
Killing emotions
The Loveless LP is the best starting point. Every track is strong and the whole album has a wonderful aura.
I've got them - all excellent !
How can a band sounds so unrehearsed yet so in synch at the same time
you have to understand that most people who listen to this band, are basically or atleast half deaf. Thats includes me.
great song,thx
my bloody valentine - strawberry wine
[Verse 1]
Misty morning in the springtime
Close your eyes, your crystal eyes
On the darkside let the light shine
Please, please stay with me tonight
These lips will find strawberry wine
[Verse 2]
I was looking at your window
Lurking there beneath my feet
Cherry apples, long grass meadows
Close your eyes, for dreams in sleep
These lips will find strawberry wine
[Verse 3]
Misty morning in the springtime
Lurking there beneath your feet
On the darkside let the light shine
Think of me, don't let me keep
These lips will find strawberry wine
i hear "broken glass beneath my feet"
There is nothing in between, loveless is a massive wall of sound, but that's what i love about it.
what a brillant band, pity there isnt more music with such passion, good taste and creativness, though i guess its a good thing seeing only those who look deeper into the music scene are lucky enough to come across such good music
Fantastic song.
lol my chicken started clucking while I was listening to this and I swore it was part of the song for 10 seconds
a favorite
Very underrated!
very nice...
Tastes sweet like Strawberry Wine!!
you can see traces of blown a wish in this one.
this literally sounds like something off of a underground psych comp from the 60's. mbv honestly never fails to amaze me
If Heaven has a highway, this is the song you'd hear on its radio.
+john mcgluckin Actually Slowdive was pretty awesome.
@ La Route du Rock festival in Saint-Malo, France : Saturday August 14th.
has a real 60s folky feel to it - nice
❤❤❤
another genius track.brings bk soooo many memories.i fucking love this band \m/
I'd be quite happy if they'd play this song next time I'll see them (in August).
@Sudhish86 Loveless sounds more like being in love, than being in love does.
wow. i dont know this! Thanks.

Came here after listening to the new stuff. I miss when Kevin Shields wrote songs.
This song is the only song that makes me happy ahaha
I like all 3 songs!
MBV have got a new album! It's called MBV! I just found out... I hope it's good! (I REALLY hope it's not shite)
@zappi23 Yeah, I kinda wish they were louder on this one. I love his drumming on this EP and Isn't Anything.
Made in the early 90s sounds like the 60s and appreciated in early 2000s

@limecure beautiful comment :) greetings from Australia wherever you are.
This song so great. I wish i could play in university freshers fair)
I want a glass of strawberry wine now...
It's a lovely, simple pop song seeking a sound. Little did the band know what a radical sound would grow from beneath such songs. MBV had a whole album of such songs it strangely failed to revive after Loveless.
@JackWMS14
Only went to Moles the once for that MBV gig. I tried swinging a cat but its ears kept catching on the walls.
I see where Lush come from
I'd tend to agree with you
They did this very Syd Barrett-ish psychedelia very well and I think "To Here Knows When" is the best track on Loveless, which takes that sound to a totally different dimension
60's jangly indeed
They were gearing up for the great thing they became. God Only Knows how these things occur, and it doesn't often. But when it does...
Such a different sound to what im used to of them... Which is basically 'loveless'
@CrazyDan1984 Bilinda and Debby are both English - Colm and Kevin are both Irish. (Early MBV were all Irish though).
@vialpandojosiah If you don't like it, then It confuses me why you would even bother to comment.
@limecure
Beautifully said...another song called "Pale Spectre" by The Wake gives me that similar feeling of being just out of reach.
@classof77
Kevin is Irish but spent his early years growing up in America.
@BarneyRubble1968 Haha, Moles is proper fucking tiny, have you been inside? Would of been great to see them there though! I always went to there on Sundays for the U18 battle of the bands, nice little venue.
lets all get drunk !
I use to be happy
ure great
Suenan como The Smiths... me gusta, me transmite nostalgia.
I was talki ng to an ai and it said this was their favorite shoegaze song
The whole shoe gazing scene started and ended with MBV everything else was just inferior
+john mcguckin Agreed. Everything else is cheap imitation. MBV are god.
+john mcguckin slowdive
+spacebusdriver agreed. I didn't see your comment at first.
+john mcguckin don't forget the brilliant FSA also even though they were from US check out BJM's Methodrone
Nup. Back to original point. All the bands listed on this thread are GREAT, but still lack the depth and creative genius of MBV.
kevin sheilds taught me how to play...
Yes! another song that beats the shit out of most of "Loveless"!!!
I like the early stuff better really. They used to write really catchy songs. Catchy is the last word I'd use to describe their latest album.
@cholocharile basically, awesome band
@talktal nice catch
