- Walk all over me
Even though you can't decide
Look out, child bride
You'll be on your own
Hillside, slip and slide
Feel the pain, it's no surprise
Look out, look out
Thorn won't be your love
I felt your hair across my skin
I didn't know where to begin
A shallow promise in my ear
No thoughts, no dreams, no wishes, and no fear
The rose is dead, your face serene
No memories of things that once did seem
To be to me important, too
You give me flowers but it's thorns I give to you
Walk all over me
Even though you can't decide
Look out, child bride
You'll be on your own
Hillside, slip and slide
Feel the pain, it's no surprise
Look out, look out
Thorn won't be your love
The rose is dead, your face serene
No memories of things that once did seem
To be to me important, too
You give me flowers but it's thorns I give to you
Walk all over me
Even though you can't decide
Look out, child bride
You'll be on your own
Hillside, slip and slide
Feel the pain, it's no surprise
Look out, look out
Thorn won't be your love
kevin shields wearing the hardest fit i have ever seen in 1988
Holy shit its Miki Berenyi. What a piece of history.
Yup! That's gotta be her. Another great shoegaze icon.
@@honiideslysses12 I wasn't sure until she turned around to face the camera. It's absolutely her.
🫶😗
LUSH!
also emma was dating kevin at this time!
Damn, i had no idea Colm was this energetic on the drums, the guy is on fire.
Oh yeah ,, their old stuff is nuts
Oh definitely, especially in the Isn't Anything era!
He's massively underrated
I saw mbv about 13 years ago and Colm’s drumming was incredible. He was very nimble and skittery back in the early years. His style gotten a little sparser and more solid with time. Undoubtedly underrated.
He is undoubtedly underrated although him being off beat alot and being sporadic and crazy he was in a way alot like kurt cobain ,kurt not knowing theory still made him a great songwriter n guitarist same with colm
Debbie literally shoegazing the whole song through....
the bassline is so good on this song
lmfao bro
It's 2023. How many millions of times have we heard this sound ? These guys were playing it in 1988. Thank you for uploading this. It's beautiful.
Meanwhile JAMC in '85..J Mascis Dinosaur Jr '84, one of 'Kevin's guitar heroes Rowland S Howard in Birthday Party 80-81...In musicology, nothing's really new as such its just reworked...
Wow one of the few live videos of them where you can actually hear the vocals over the din.
I love both
The din? 😂. Iike the vocals lower down in the mix to be honest.
This is from the Polytechnic of North London on 11th October 1988. Shown briefly on Rapido on BBC2 as part of a short feature on Creation Records the following month.
Polytechnic of North London, Kentish Town
Debbie is so cool. As unique a stage presence as Bill Wyman.
Absolutely. We're so used to seeing Kevin and Bilinda, and Colm comes after that. But this video is great because it showcases Debbie. She deserves credit
What a great band. Debbie is really the glue here
this is why i love youtube...what a cool window into the past
Let never die this video please, save it as gold. Berenyi seeing MBV before the GALA releasement
Lush wasn't even signed.
i love how at 0:48 he doesnt even attempt to hit that chorus high note hahhahah
Finally some clear as hell footage and audio pre Loveless
Colm is just my favourite drummer of all times(with Young Gods first drummer).. he has awesome skills, bringing drums in MBV one step beyond. If he left MBV no one can replace him.. He is part of the sound of MBV as much as, or even much, as the guitars..
Like a snare machine gun
MIKI! Man, I'll bet that was a hell of a show.
Thats rare af I LOVE It. Please post the Full show ( its almost HD wtf )
Happening now in a parallel dimension 😂
Yes! Please post the full show!
@@uncooldispatch5438 hahahahahahah thx for making me laugh
This probably was unbelievably loud. Hüsker Dü and My Bloody Valentine were insanely loud wall of sound bands.
louder than any other band I have ever seen x2. earplugs was a must. saw them empty a place during the encore with a solid wall of sound. this is the reason Kevin is deaf
Thank you INA ! (French archives)
I’ve been looking for this performance for months and I thought I’d never see it! Thanks so much for posting
Interesting how Kevin Shields didn't have that many pedals to create a wall of sound.
His fx are basically stage props. During the Loveless era he used like 8-9 pedals total, with some of those being duplicates for different songs. The main effect is the reverse reverb from an old Yamaha rack mixed with his whammy bar use.
Also, a small transistor fender Amp with single 12 inch speaker.
Interesting the sound is thin
I was surprised by that too.
@@namebrandmason it’s a variation on the reverse gate setting.
Holy Shit. One of their best songs being performed when it was relatively new? So sick. Priceless footage. You can really see/hear why Alan McGee thought he was discovering the British Hüsker Dü.
EXACTLY!
Anymore footage from this concert? My favorite era of MBV
He has like only three pedals. Amazing.
Thanks for sharing!
This is amazing! Piece of history! Thank you
it's insane miki of lush is in the crowd
Colm is is such a fucking powerhouse. Non-stop energy explosion the whole time.
this guy is the height of a skyscraper
yep 6'3
skyscraper is a tune off the 1st boo radleys album. that first one is so good
I was at PNL in 1988, it was great.
Deb is awesome
i live for this band and this song it’s the theme music to my life
Great band. No compromise here
Love this band so much, kevin finish that record!
Colm is such a great drummer and Is integral to MBV’s sound! His fills are so fluid and they are almost not fills in a way, in that they are components of his drum beats. I know they are a cult band but I think he gets overlooked as a drummer as he was very original in his approach. MBV’s material wouldn’t have sounded the same without him behind the kit and that’s something difficult to achieve as a drummer. It’s got the energy of punk rock drumming in the frantic aspect but it’s so tight and measured. Punk rock drumming is very rarely if ever in the pocket like Colm plays. One of my favourite bands and every single member managed to add something that stands up in its own right and it wasn’t just Kevin’s vision with musicians playing along, they all played a vital part. I saw them live at the Roundhouse after their long hiatus and it was the loudest gig I have ever been to! They really did do their own thing and created their own sound, again, something very difficult to achieve.
Incredible! Interesting to see that Kevin doesn’t actually have very many pedals on stage, the sound is more tonal/whammy bar based. Also Miki in the audience! I wonder if Lush were also on the bill, she has the slightly stressed look I usually have before I have to play but I’m trying to enjoy my friends band haha!! 😅
If Lush did exist in 1988 I would guess they would be supporting MBV, not the other way round. More likely was on the razz the night before and had the next-day booze heebie-jeebies, or was just coming up on some acid
From Miki's book it appears that in oct 88 Lush were looking for a lead singer after parting with Meriel so I doubt they were playing at this one. She also mentions Emma dating Kevin Shields for some time prior to that date.
@@stephanedegremont4961 Yes, Emma dated Kev thru 1987. Lush had also opened for MBV in June at the Fulham Greyhound, and Chris had to borrow Colm's kit for a show at the Falcon 2 days before this (which was their first show playing again after a 3 month break when Meriel got booted).
Never heard this I was 8 years old this is fucking amazing
This i gooooold! Thank you so much for uploading it, as well as the interview!
Wow...never seen this, Awesome....sounds great live & faster too.
he's absolutely shredding those drums
Ace footage this great to see miki out of lush in the crowd to
Holy shit thank you for uploading this. What a gem
This is my favourite video on CZcams. Anyone care to hazard a guess at the floor pedal? I see a boss eq for sure and maybe a ds2 but the blue and black one 🤷♂️
So good to hear them and see them properly thank you for sharing this ✊
Blue & black one is most likely a line selector, it looks like it's feeding 2 different chains. You use it so you don't have to punch 3 pedals at once to change your sound.
Pretty incredible how awesome this sounds even though they're using little Fender bedroom practice amps
thank you for the upload !!! amazing
what an amazing recording! Thank you!!!
....i want to go back...
1:31 Is that Miki from Lush on the right?
(Yes She Is)
Yes She Is

Miki!!!
All finished at the same time. Pro or what !
awesome sauce
what a cool clip!
Wowww!
plsss upload more of these
Love it all but especially the guitar sound
i think its just really crazy he can time that reverse reverb because its so hard to control
Wow!! Is there more from this gig?
That was SO BADASSS!
They're so effing loud live. It's great.
- Is there anymore of this?, there is actually definition in the Audio unlike every single other live recording of MBV.
Im pretty sure there may be a full recording of the performance because clips of it were featured in a slowdive documentary, hopefully this person has the whole thing and posts it
mbv always played incredibly loud so most recorders would get maxed out which makes the audio quality undefined
Miki Berenyi in the front row ❤
Holy shit this sounds amazing
A towering inferno of guitar distortion. What an amazing time for music, so many improbable bands came out in a short time.
the whammy-bar strum, nice!
cuties
Colm killing it
Is that Miki of Lush in the audience?
Of course, making sure she’s on camera as always.
I love Colm's windmill from one crash to the other, Like Pete Townsend on drums.
MBV’s “quiet” era 😂👍🏻
🙌🏾🙌🏾
holy cow... wish we could see the other guitarist.
Grande MBV!
❤❤❤
They're good 'uns! 🙂
not many pedals back then
Vim buscar cobre e encontrei ouro 😀
Eventhough its still the 80s, but they've already prepared to dress like the 90s.
Why debbie playing bass like that
2:41 Is Miki from Lush in the footage?
Kevin shields is my hero
Bassline
Debi going for it!!
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
What instrument is the jukebox playing here? Jukebox is an uncredited member of mbv
🖤🍒✨✨
Dinosaur Jr. influence palpable in this track, could’ve easily been a track of off You’re living all over me…don’t get me wrong, love both bands, besides MBV admitted they were influenced by them.
When and where was this? I guess London sometime in 1989, but would love to know more ... Hopefully you have more of this show??

@@simonyoung9807 Cheers mate!
holly shit is that Lush on the right of the camera
When you see (& feel) their sound live, it crosses your mind- Do they have hearing loss issues?
What?

super cool wtf
why the weird little platforms though??
