This is my summer of 1989. Working in a record shop in Bristol where this was on constant repeat play. Where I met the lovely woman who was to become my girlfriend and then my wife. Twenty blissful years and then cancer takes her. Can't listen to this without simultaneous tears and gratitude.
You were adored for 20 years. A very fortunate man indeed.
Shit, dude... I hope you had 20 amazing years, brother.
Rest in paradise, she was adored
Aww mate I clicked on see more and shite……life ey lad, keep on smiling 🙂🤘
Really sorry to hear that mate ❤
This song is like the last breath from the 80s and the first breath from the 90s

Feb 2 2024 👍.......Remember back 99 when you thought you were getting old & that time was really flying by because it was almost the year 2000 and you graduated in 1990
❤❤
Shout out to everyone who was alive when this was released in 89 - and is still rocking it today.
Oh yeah, great music never dies.
Yes, I was 21 and in college. A friend turned me on to them because the radio never played these guys in the States. What a fantastic time to be a late teen or young adult!
I was 10 😊
The year is 89 and I live in a big house with 3 floors and 8 flats. The landlord decides he wants to sell up. 6 of the flats are now empty and the residents of those flats don't kick up a fuss and leave with the exception of me at the very top and a chap called Chris who was at the bottom. We decided to make a stand and fight till the end. At this point we had no water but we had the whole house to ourselves and it was a big house.. One day while in my flat I heard a song that was being played at full volume by Chris at the bottom and I mean full volume I felt compelled to go down to his flat and find out who played this music I had never heard of the stone roses or this song. It was a revelation for me. Something unique , powerful and emotional. That was the day I heard the stone roses for the first time. Of course I bought the album and played it full whack. The whole house rocked to the sound of this track. We had a glorious 2 months of listening to this album over and over again. Eventually we were both offered £250 to leave and back in 89 that was a large amount of cash for each of us. I will never forget that period in my life being introduced to a seminal band. The building is now some solicitor headquarters. Bet you can still hear the spirit of this album in the walls.

In my 20s I too wanted to be adored. In my 30s I settled for being tolerated. Now in my 40s I just wish I was hated less.

Fun Fact: Both "The Stone Roses: The Stone Roses" and "The Cure: Disintegration" were released on the 2nd of May 1989, making it the greatest day of the year.
The greatest day of any year
WTF haha, never knew that 🎉
Never realised they were 80s albums!
@@grahamtait8031 Really 1989 was a warning shot of the 90s most of the hair metal garbage was dead already, I mean some of the hair bands coming out had names like Faster Pussycat.... Faster Pussycat.
@@Mollikar But the music of the 1990s sounds so dead and dry and cynical
compared to this and other masterpieces from 1989 (other great albums from that year for me are ‘Playing With Fire’ by Spacemen 3, ‘On Fire’ by Galaxie 500, ‘Hats’ by the Blue Nile). I think the 80s was always building up to ‘89. Admittedly, there were fewer masterpieces (compared with the early to mid 80s that had far more) and lots of proto-90s bubblegum trash. I guess the 80s had to end somehow.

Great bands have that weird, indefinable energy and chemistry. The Roses were one of the last to be touched by greatness. I'm not one to wallow in the past but God, I miss that.
Yep, music will never be the same again. Bands like the Roses will never happen again, because society and the music industry have changed dramatically.
I do actually live in the past sometimes because these days have gone and they were the best days I wish I was born abit sooner to appreciate it properly what an era ❤

Liam: I need to be my Shelf
I've been listening to this good song for a long time, does anyone else agree with me in 2024? /Llevo buen tiempo escuchando este buen tema, ¿alguien más coincide conmigo en este 2024?
This is one of those bands who I’ve always recognized its influence in music but never really got into them. Heard this song for 5 seconds skipping through it and instantly fall in love. Now I know about their well deserved recognition
Mesmerising, hypnotic, transcendent, ethereal and spiritual...meet The Stone Roses!
every cliche possible...i just never got it. you forgot pastoral imagery...back to this band im sure non of you care too much about. i took a beating earlier.
Most underrated band of all time absolute masters of their time
Much better than commercial Oasis!
@@jumofi oasis was a last minute substitute
45 million views aint nothing. Plenty of great bands can't get half a million.
I'd say other than this track (which is incredible), that they're one of the most overrated bands ever.
@@halfalligator6518 45 million views of a video published on 2009. Remember this song peaked almost 30 years before 2009. Just saying...
There's only a handful of songs I'd ever give a 10/10 to and this is one of them. It's a masterpiece in every way.
best dance moves of all time amirite??
better than the shit mainstream calls "dance moves" today
one of the best bands in the world!!!! shut up
Ryan And Friends true
john smith I like the band tbh
That footwork and the singing while raising the mic in the air. So much coordination!
There are not many perfect things in life, the opening to this song is a rare perfect thing. Sublime.
Agree
They set the bar for perfection love it
Amazingly brilliant and innovative. The Stone Roses will forever be legendary musical geniuses ❤🎶🎶🎶
I'm very glad this video has 55 million viewers.
Despite people calling it Illuminati in this religious world
I came here by loving The Stone Roses
+Sportstalk Dudes Sadly, you are among the few ones. Apparently, lot's of commenters here haven't even heard about "I wanna be your dog" by the Stooges. The main entertainment seem to be the series nowadays.
same.. The Stone Roses are my favourite. Roll on June!🍋
+nick fit who fucking cares how people found it?
+George Fairs that's the point of my comment to make fun of that
+Izzy Doyle wish they'd come to America :(
It’s so hard to explain how this song makes me feel. I never experienced the 80s or the 90s. Only have memories of the early 2000s. Yet this song makes me feel I lived in the 80s and 90s. And it also makes me nostalgic to my early 2000s memories. But I only discovered this song half a year ago, when it was summer. The sky was getting darker and I was cycling back home from work whilst listening to this song. This song really has a special place in my heart.
better late than never dude
Look into the Cure and Joy Division if you already haven't...
Good for you. Too many of your generation have lost so much
fight for a better future trust me these eltites robbed us and you of 20 years.
Then you missed out big time kiddo, because the early 2000’s were nothing like the 80’s or early 90’s.😂
Just simply one of the best songs ever! Brilliant in every way!
One of the best opening tracks to any album. It doesn't try too hard, or encapsulate the whole album in one song. It's just merely a hint of the brilliance that unfolds over this and the next 10 songs. Probably my most listed to Album of the past 30 plus years
❤
I seen Ian Brown at a service station a couple of years ago. I remember thinking to myself at the time "that's Ian Brown"
Are you sure it wasnt his twin brother Toddy Brown
