Your picture is not correct. The height of the right angle is on the surface area of the triangle face of the pyramid. Please correct your slide for it not correct.

You can even use the formula( lateral area=1/2Pl) total area= 1/2Pl+B ) and you still get the same answer. P stands for perimeter of base, and l stands for slant height, and B stands for area of base.

When you did 1/2 b * h for the second triangle you drew it isn't possible since it is not right angles so you have to do 1/2 a b sin c
