Welcome back! We have a lot of big cases we are excited to share with you this series. And we start off in Yorkshire... were the police very unlucky in this case? Or did they have an absolute mare?
Could you do Issei Sagawa? Or look into it I think you would like it / it would make an interesting pod. Thanks!
its impossible to justify how police handled this case. its embaracing how badly thay got it wrong
Police were idiots and I'm the one living the nightmare
Will you guys be doing Dennis Nilsen? That would be fascinating..The brian masters book 'killing for company' is very illuminating...
I knew a copper from the ripper squad. He worked for us in our capacity as funeral directors as a part time pall bearer after his retirement. I'll always remember his tales of George Oldfield having a problem with booze, but what will always stay with me is the guy's astonishment when he came in to work the day after I attended a concert by Lee 'Scratch' Perry and I was listening to some of the great man's stuff on the PC in our back room. "WTF is this shite!?" was his reaction. When I told him of my great time to be had and at the afore-mentioned gig his response was to degrade such activities as n-word loving nonsense and basically lost any respect he had for me and us as a company. Needles to say he didn't ever work for us again. Funny way to hand your notice in eh? But the whole experience led me to think that if most coppers at that time were more enlightened and a bit less judgmental maybe lives could have been saved at this time. The guy used to tell stories of slippery steps too...probably a lot of BS, but left me with a deep seated mistrust of 1970's and '80's coppers. I know that they cannot be all be all bad but it's worth pointing out that this fella was a mason, and not the sort that build stone houses. In short an utter c#@t!
The women that weren’t killed pretty much all said he’s got a Yorkshire accent, and they dismissed it and followed the fake audio tape. Wasted years, others we’re murdered. Complete mess.
Oh yeah! I mean, who would have thought that any of them could ever possibly hope to remember a black bearded nutter attacking them with a ball and peen hammer and various sharp tools and knifes, etc? 🔨
Like you said, so many survivors attested to a man with a Yorkshire accent and a trimmed black beard and moustache, yet they knew better.
I watched one particular doco and someone said that they never got all the photofits issued after every attack, out on a table at once, until after Sutcliffe had been caught. But when they did, it immediately became obvious that it had been staring them in the face, all along.
Sutcliffe himself said after his last interview in 1979 that he was wearing the size seven boots that had left prints at some of the murder scenes whilst they were questioning him at his place of work. He goes on to say he was standing on wire mesh steps so he could get into his lorry, and if they had have looked they would have seen the faded pattern. He finished by saying that they were incapable of seeing anything that was right under their noses. 👃 He was openly mocking them unto the very last.
@@oleggorky906 I had to own about the photo fits not been looked at. Isn’t that basic police detecting! I think they also were swimming in info, that room apparently needed reinforcement due to all the weight of the files and cabinets.
@@koolerking440 It is indeed basic police detective work to check the photofits, but they seem to have been making it all up as they went along. It was most bizarre: Especially so with regard to ‘Wearside Jack’, the five pound note serial number and the numerous interviews with Sutcliffe.
And yes, the floor was in danger of collapse through the sheer weight of paper work. They had the big wheel in the middle of the incident room floor, the infamous ‘carousel’.
In a strange way of prison honour and things, he did get some payback. Sutcliffe was blinded in one eye after an attack; later on the sight went in the other eye as well. Then he had his face slashed a couple of times and finally someone tried to strangle him with the lead from a video recorder, or something similar; he sowed to the wind and he reaped the whirlwind. I hope that the wardens didn’t run to his aid too quickly. After all some of them had mothers, wives and daughters also.
I’ve been waiting what feels like a long time but checking back it’s only been 2 months. Thanks chaps
Love to see you lads back, so shocking that Sutcliffe was taken in 9 times by the police and managed to slip through their fingers
So shocking, he made it through so many of them because he didn’t have a Geordie accent and his wife was his alibi for a number of the nights of the murders 😕
The only time Sutcliffe was taken in for questioning was when he was arrested, the other were done at his home or place of work due to the £5 note enquiry.
Sutcliffe was such an unassuming guy as well so police perhaps felt his responses were plausible. Butter wouldn’t melt. Serial killers often have an innocent looking exterior don’t they? They said Ted Bundy was a “charmer”.
Loved this! The most detailed account of what he did. My dad was one of the prison officers assigned to Sutcliffe when he was on suicide watch in HMP Wakefield while he was awaiting trial, spending 12 hours a day with him (there are some great photos online of my dad leading him out of court). My dad said they used to have press up competitions, long chats & that when Sutcliffe would say he was “getting the urge” or “hearing the voices” my dad would tell him he’d only have one chance to try it 😂😂😂 my dad was also into weight lifting & boxing at the time, he was a big lad back then, funny enough the voices would quickly go away lol
what was your dad's opinion of Peter as a man? We know he killed women, but the ones he attacked who survived all said they felt safe with him because he was calm and soft-spoken. I've heard his voice so i know he wasn't macho. He seemed to hide what he had going on inside pretty well. Id be interested to know how your dad felt in his presence, and to hear any other anecdotes your dad might have. Thanks
Wud love to hear alot more about ur dad's time in Sutcliffes presence.. Any more details.. Very intrigued..
Sutcliffe was never in HMP Wakefield,he was first in HMP Leeds(Armley) then moved to London when on trial
@@darrenfield7060 your bull - 💩-o - meter is spot on!
I’ve checked around and there is no evidence that I can find - anywhere - that he has ever been in HMP Wakefield. There’s evidence for a load of past and present, notorious, prisoners having been incarcerated there at some point or another, such as Charles Bronson, but none whatsoever for Sutcliffe.
I’ve only found evidence for these places; Hamerton Road, which is a Sheffield police station, Dewsbury police station, (the first two, obviously, very briefly, for questioning) HMP Pankhurst,, Isle of Wight, Broadmoor Secure Hospital, Crowthorne, Berkshire and HMP Frankland, Northumbria but he has never been held in HMP Wakefield.
People will say anything for their Warholian 15. 😂😂
I thought he was held at Armley jail in Leeds whilst on remand
I'm a Uni of Sheffield student and my morning commute takes me down Melbourne Avenue - the backstreet where Peter Sutcliffe was caught mentioned in the intro (sometimes nicknamed 'Ripper Alley' by us students). Now has me instinctively looking over my shoulder when I walk to uni!
Boss these pods lads quality is unreal
Nice one Ollie!
He was interviewed 9 times on 9 separate incidents so they didn't join the dots and once they thought the ripper was a mackem that was it.
Yessss!!! Your back. Looking forward to seeing which other cases you've covered
I'm a southener and can remember the relief when he was caught, miles from my home but still big news.
Crazy how much technology has changed and how if it was nowadays, they wouldn't have needed the reinforced floor and computers could have cross referenced all that evidence.
DNA of course could be analysed nowadays and the likely perpetrator narrowed down.
Such an underrated podcast. Can’t wait to say I was here from the start !
Incredibly glad to be spending my Monday evenings listening to you guys again!
Thanks Robson! We got five more big ones coming!
So happy you guys are back! I’ve re watched season 1 like 3 times

Get in there Boys, Thanks for covering the case I asked for! Love it!
Welcome back guys! Another brilliant episode, keep them coming these are absolutely class!!
Thank you so much for waiting around for us! Glad to be back. The next five episodes are all pretty big ones!
Brilliant episode! Glad you’re back
Thanks so much Bethany!
Both my parents went to Bradford University when the Yorkshire Ripper was active. They are in their 60s now and still don’t want to hear anything about him. Understandable.
Yeah I live in Halifax and it still sends a cold shiver down my spine every time I see his ugly mush on the computer or TV. Evil to the core.
Imagine the lives that could've been saved throughout history if the police had of cared about or even simply listened to the minority....
Literally watched all your episodes now. Binged the lot lads and I can't get enough! Keep up the good work 👍🏻... and it still baffles me on why you only got 20k subs 🤯
Nice one Jay!
I live in Headingley, Leeds. Very creepy at night. Peter Sutcliffe, T’Ripper, roamed these streets for years. Still feel his ghost, like, ya know. His sinister friendship with Boris Johnson look-a-like, Jimmy Savile, began long before Broadmoor.
I am so glad this is back.
37:23 this is why I love you guys.
I listen to your podcast at work via d'ears and catch up here once I'm home. Thank you for the great content and your humour. I'm so glad I found you.
So glad the pods are back!!
It’s back!!!
Another great podcast, guys!
It sounds like there was a lot of really good policework being done on the ground level with this case but no one further up the chain seemed able to put all of the pieces together, even when those pieces painted a very clear picture of who the killer was. Sadly, this is far from the only serial killer case where prejudice against less privileged people allowed the perpetrators to rack up higher body counts than they should have been able to.
Thank you so much!
Britain was more overtly racist and misogynistic in the seventies which was reflected within the police force. Also four tons of stationery and filing cards with thousands upon thousands of interview information and data cannot be effectively monitored whereas nowadays that would all be stored in a sophisticated computer system for immediate cross reference. Scientific services and the invention of DNA analysis plus improved police procedures and interview techniques would hypothetically apprehend someone like Sutcliffe much quicker these days. CCTV and ANPR cameras as well. It has all changed so much since the period of Sutcliffe crimes.
Yess! These podcasts are getting me through sixth form!
Happy to hear it, Riley!
you are so true!!!! what a godsend these are
Welcome back chaps :D
I'm loving the Guess Who vibes & new voiceover man (soz Ben).
Was the white top & shirt thing planned between you? I'm here for it. Bens shirt is the best FYI.
He used to drink in a pub where I live (I don't live in the pub but its in Darlo) & they suspected he committed another murder that happened here, but there wasn't enough evidence & he never admitted it.
I like the little edit for his death!
Also, not interesting but I used to work in haulage & yes there are different levels of HGV license. Class 2 is the rigid trucks, Class 1 is the articulated trucks.
And I now work within agriculture so you going from trucks to tractors is weird!
Thanks Eve - We love his voice, too! I gave Tom a spare vest of mine but, on reflection, it does look a bit spooky...
Great to hear about the HGV levels! 😂😂
Yet again another great podcast .I'm catching up .look forward to it.😎🇮🇪
just started watching and already hooked can,t wait to watch more
I just love you guys! 👍🏻🙂‼️⭐️😄 My absolutt new faovorites, and I have been bingewatching! I love how you tell a story! - its great - and now I am recomanding you to all others i know that loves a really good crimestory too! Many Greetings from Norway! I also hope you enjoy your summer...! But still are planning to keep up your great work! ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Hahah! Love the edit about Sutcliffe’s death while the podcast was being edited 😂
Yass yous are back
My Grandad was falsely accused of being the Ripper all because he looked like him, but no one mentions the lives that were ruined because they were accused of being him.
Was this always going to be the first episode back or did you release it first after the recent news? :)
It was a pure coincidence.... Spooky 👀💀
On the rewatch binge immediately after finishing I am fiNe
Enjoy bud!
Your podcast is concise and informative. I feel weird saying I enjoyed it...
Thank you! Happy you enjoyed! Happy new year!
Sterling job guys! 🤩
Ughhhh yess I’ve needed this
you guys are my fave!!
Oh my hat, thank heavens. I'm so excited.
Yes boys, love that you've got the spon!
Thank you!
@@ICouldMurderAPodcast I've been on the fence about getting a vpn for a while now, so hopefully going through your link helps you out! Also, it was 4 extra months not three, so that's a bonus!
Peter sutcliffe has always fascinated me! I worked next to the road he was arrested at in Sheffield!
I've just finished reading "Wicked beyond belief" by Michael Bilton. Goes into great detail. I'm from Leeds and remember being frightened for my mum who had to cut through Roundhay Park for her night job.
Again, really well covered!! Nice work!
However, am I allowed to say I'm missing the feels of Butt's Cottage and the fake stone wall behind you? #Bringbackthebutts 😂😂
Hahaha thank you so much GG! it’s SEMI legitimate brick slip wall in my living room in butts cottage and thank god someone finally appreciates it 😅 #bringthatbuttyback
Despite “red herron” and “smimey”, this was a super cool show. Well done, guys. Keep up t’good work, like.
Great series called "now it's personal the hunt for the Yorkshire ripper" if anyone gets the chance to watch it it's worth it
i see that youve taken this whole sea animal thing to a new level with your sponsor for the episode (and no i havent let this joke die, i will continue to milk it) p.s. loved the episode
Haha! How did we not think of this 😂
Thank you! Big episode coming tomorrow!
Love the podcast guys, I would be really like to see an episode on Richard Ramirez, aka The Night Stalker.
Great podcast. Have you considered covering the Hammersmith Nude aka "Jack the Stripper" murders? Fascinating case.
Never heard of this one - definitely going to read up on it!
Top stuff chaps
Thanks David!
I’m view 129. Found you guys a few weeks back and love watching you although I miss the Butts cottage set. Can you cover the Skylar Neese case at some point please?
We have discussed doing that case on the Patreon funnily enough...
Someone misses my house! 😆 B
Please do it on your main channel it’s an interesting case that deserves attention and it’s the brick I miss 😂
Cracking stuff
Thank you, sir!
Absolutely brilliant, loved this one, gave me a good insight into an evil monster that was causing hysteria for all women in my teenage years!! Hope he rots in hell!!
I was a kid in Middleton Manchester, I remember this. We would scurry home from school. Go home, watch out for the ripper. I know we were low risk. It's just social history pre internet.
I’ve had to sub on Patreon can’t get enough of this Pod ! The Art work and effort all round keep it up lads so excited for more 👌🏻
Thank you sooooooo much! That really means a lot :) we have five more big cases coming on CZcams for season 2 but lots of intriguing cases for patreon! Thank you again!!
great channel this lads
Thank you mate!
@@ICouldMurderAPodcast no worries mate, i look forward to seeing what else you cover, i suggested before but look into the gunn family from nottingham, is a good story and not a lot on yt of quality
LOL I'm a recovering overwaterer (I know that's probably not a real word) myself, but they are much happier nowadays since getting a moisture meter. Thanks for your work, fellas! ❣
I swing wildly between overwatering and horribly forgetting to water houseplants for long periods. Absolutely awful with houseplants, I even rotted a cactus once. Oddly though, I'm fantastic with animal care - even delicate species - outdoor plants, and even aquatic plants in my aquariums, yet don't trust myself with a houseplant other than a peace lily; which will at least remind me to water it by wilting, but before too much damage is done and it bounces back quickly. I'd love a house like a jungle, full of plants, but unless I can stick it in a tank so it grows out of the water and takes care of itself that way, I can't be trusted.
How do we get the mugs loved this episode
Glad you enjoyed Ryan! Do you follow us on Instagram or Twitter at all? If you message us on there we can send you a link for the mugs :)
I only just realised the reference to series 1 with the eel in the intro.
Fantastic Rock and Sock connection reference 🪨🧦
I live in pudsey just next to Bradford, Bd3 specifically and I too am also excited to talk about it because it’s just crazy. Even crazier when I brought it up to my gran and one of the victims was her friend.
It’s back life is gud
Wrong mate! I grew up in South Yorkshire, and we did think that he could strike here. He had done so already in Manchester, Leeds, Bradford, Halifax and Huddersfield, obviously had a vehicle, so why couldn’t he strike in Sheffield (or Barnsley, Rotherham, Doncaster, Penistone etc)?
In fact some believe that he had done so already, with possible, though by no means proven, attacks in Doncaster and Mexborough, both in South Yorkshire.
Almost everyone who has researched the Ripper murders thinks that there is good reason to believe that he was responsible for many more assaults and murders than he was eventually actually brought to book for. His photofit seems to crop up in a lot of unsolved attacks and murders.
For one of your podcasts could you do the Suffolk strangler ? Really interesting case
He is definitely on our radar GG!
@@ICouldMurderAPodcast great, loving the pod, keep it up :)
I live in the Roundhay area too, as did Jimmy Savile. Shriek!!!
I am an undertaker, and have no problem around dead bodies. I do however find this podcast highly amusing... Not sure which is the problem here🤣🤣🤣
Amusing is probably the wrong choice of word...I'll go with interesting. Big fan of this podcast tho'.
Richard Hammond before Top Gear.
Two weeks early, amateur, i was 12 weeks early 😂
Being a short guy with size 7 feet is making me feel awkward and slightly murdery... thanks guys.
How's the serial killing going one year on?
@@parallaxview2143 oh, you know, just doing my part.
I'd love you to do a Podcast on Graham Young.
Just found the podcast... really enjoying it. I'm sure this has been mentioned before but I get strong Toast of London vibes from you two chaps... (sorry)
Nice one, Daniel! What is toast of london? Haha
Bradford is the home to thousands of Eastern European people who arrived in the city after the Second World War. Rogulski, Sonia's parents, the gravestone of the Polish man is a good indication of how many they were.
Roundhey Park is pronounced as "Roud-hee" not as Round-hay".
16:44 😂
i allways found it very strange that one of the victims was found less than 150 yards from jimmy savilles penthouse flat ,that block looked over into the park area
No lie I only just heard a story from my grandad that he used to work with Peter in some kind of factory and punched him in the face 😂😂😂
Mint boyos
Nice one Lee!

Apparently, his favourite exercise was Hammer Curls...anyone, anyone?
What do you think of the link between sutcliffe n Jimmy Saville
One of sutcliffes victims stayed in the holiday caravan owned by Savile with her family
I never knew he killed in roundhay😳
Yes, mate - He attacked quite a few near roundhay 😟

I hadn't heard that about his son, wow. The devastation those sickos inflicted was immense.
I would love to see an episode on Jeffrey Daumer
Yeah and Jeffrey Dahmer
I was in same class as the policemans daughter at the time he got caught in 1981. Bit more to that story than public knowledge .
That’s crazy! The police officer that arrested him?
