Actually the Petty Officers didn't get Dishonorable Discharges since those could only be given by a General Court-Martial. If they were processed out immediately, that meant they got an Other Than Honorable Discharge, which means exactly what it says. This may seem nit picky but, being a retired Navy Chief, I was taught to be nit picky.

We had a retired chief working in our department who was infamous for sexual harassment and assault. This guy was so brazen about it that he did it in front of and even to our patients. He got away with it for 20 years, god knows how he behaved while he was in, but all it took to get him removed was just one department head who a damn about it. It was so easy, that he was gone within a week. People don’t realize how common this is in the military, and how often predators and bullies are protected, especially when they have rank or status. I’ve known way too many people who’ve attempted and committed because they saw no other way out of the daily harassment, and I’ve also know higher ups whose harassment directly contributed to a sailor’s attempt and who then went on to do it to other sailors but with the added, “I know you’re still grieving over the fact you found your friend hanging from the ceiling, but your therapy sessions are cutting into working hours soooo…”
It’s no wonder recruitment is at an all time low and why people are leaving en masse. This shit sucks, and I’m glad I got out.

I have a sizable collection of vintage Lego sets, which my older brother and his boys(age 10 and 7 respectively) admire immensly. They have been told by both myself and their dad they can look but DON’T TOUCH any of their uncle’s Legos, which they never fuss about. So the last story made me feel grateful for having a responsible brother with very well-behaved nephews!

I also have a lot of Legos, but a lot of them are more modern sets. I have very few classic pieces, and the ones I _do_ have are quite brittle and are broken at the points of connection, like a Bionicle hand with a broken socket. After breaking the Bionicle hand, I've been much more careful with my Lego pieces, both classic and modern.

My brothers ex gf allowed my 4 yr old at the time nephew into my room while I wasn't there. I had a few different lego and mega bloks sets, a lot of the legos were star wars and mega bloks were the military models. I had this shelf that I made and I told him not to touch any of the ones above his head and 3 of them he wasn't allowed to touch at all which were my millennium falcon, my battleship and carrier. He tried to take the battleship down. Right when I walked in I heard a loud crash and when I got in my room my nephew was holding half of the battleship and the rest was all over the floor and table. My nephew was crying and kept repeating "mommy said I could". I told him I was upset but not with him and I told him he now gets to help me put it back together. He was happy about that his mom not so much, she told me a grown a** man doesn't play with toys and I said well a grown a** woman should be paying rent, I also told her what kind of parent leaves a 4 yr old unattended in a bedroom that easily locks. Later that night was interesting. But about 2 yrs ago I bought my nephew a battleship set and told him to let me know when he puts it together so I can return the favor.

We have a DVD&book collection and coin collection with my husband, that we love, and even when my kids were toddlers, they understood to not break anything.. They're amazing kids, and always listens to us, so if a parent can't get their kids to behave, it's all their fault.. you teach your kid from the age where they start asking&questioning everything, that what they can and can't do, especially to others property and stuff.. I will never believe that a parent can't teach their kid to listen and understand what is wrong and right.. I didn't have a good mom, she didn't care teaching me anything or helping me in life, but guess what? I never broke anything of others or wanted others things just because I didn't have it . And I didn't have much . I'm still bitter about when my grandparents bought me a barbie rolls Royce pink toy car, and when I was in summer camp , my mom sold most of my stuff(not my sisters though, because they were her favorites) and I came home to an empty room, and oh, she moved me to the living room and I didn't have my own room since then, until I moved on my own.. now 12yrs later,I have an restraining order against her for serious reasons.. my kids don't know her, don't want to even , when I've told about my childhood.. Funny thing is, that I'm the only one of my sisters who's capable of having kids, and have kids , so she can't be a grandma .. Why would she be a good grandma, when she was an awful mother to me . I've never been happier now, married for 22yrs.. She even tried to break me and my husbands relationship apart.. She hated my husband, because he said to her face that she's an awful mom... 😂😂😂

Gunpla enthusiast here. For context: the kit he built with his gramps in the last story was a Master Grade The O. This is not an inexpensive kit to begin with, so a fully customised one would be worth a ton more, even without taking into account the sentimental value, and probably days or even weeks of work would have gone into it. Also the plastic on these kits is quite brittle, so dropping and full weight stepping on it is guaranteed to have broken something.

Companies always steal from their employees?!" Okay, granted... but just because people die every day doesn't magically make death a good thing. Also, in what world does in make sense that he can't get overtime? Because he's an IT specialist? I can guarantee you that someone who doesn't consider IT work to be actual work made that law.

It's probably a case of "this profession is expected to work irregular hours/more than 44h per week and is therefore not entitled to extra money over their regular salary". These shit laws exist for fields of work where they don't have enough people, but they don't want to pay the price of not having enough people, so they bribe politicians instead.

Man I LOVE hearing these Military stories as a Veteran myself.
This is definitely old navy shit from before my time, likely the early 2000’s. Mental health services are relatively new in the Military overall, and those PO’s are the kind you DO NOT want to have as your leaders. You absolutely CANNOT deny a service member the right to go speak to a chaplain- You can go to Captain’s Mast for that. If a Sailor needs to speak to a Chaplin- They are fully given the right to go speak to them. It is an ABSOLUTE fuck up if You, as a leader, deny your subordinates the ability to go to the chaplain… and if something happens because of that, you’re going to be held responsible.

As I recall from my days in the Air Force, under the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ), a Dishonorable Discharge can be imposed ONLY by a General Court Martial (the highest level of Court Martial). As for the Chiefs, it is easy to think they were offered a plea and take the Discharges rather than go to trial and take a chance at serious time (and the accompanying prisoner discipline measures) in Leavenworth.

If those kits are not in production, that price can really skyrocket. I remember seeing an out of production PG kit on Ebay for nearly $2,000.

First story, there's some wisdom that goes beyond not messing with the IT guy, and that's to not mess with the only employee handling (or in charge of) something when you don't have a backup/replacement. If you're going to screw over the only person who is keeping something working properly, then you're going to get screwed much harder if they decide to seek revenge, even if that revenge is to simply quit. If they're working longer/harder because of being the only one, pay them for it! Doesn't have to be a permanent wage increase, just some bonuses to compensate them for their extra work. The alternative is to be forking out a ton MORE money when they bail out because they're tired of being treated like crap. If two is "enough" for the job they do, then you need to have three working that position. Fewer hours per week for each person, each person gets guaranteed time off (days) each week with it all being covered, and if someone goes on vacation, it's still covered.
I'm sure that employer learned a very harsh lesson about putting all of their eggs into one basket.

J.B. Hunt tried to do that to me. I was a known passenger on my friend's big rig, and they were fired before we ever got near their home base, which was against protocol already. They tried to tell me I didn't get a ride home and had to figure it out while my friend got a ticket on them. I told them to look closer at the paperwork I submitted when we told them I'd be a passenger. "All policies that apply to our drivers apply to their passengers." Therefore, they couldn't have done that without SEVERE consequences. Can't be too loose with your wording if you wanna screw someone over 🙄

At my last command I had a petty officer who would harass me and punish me for shit that wasn't true. For example, I was running back and forth getting tools and chemicals. The idiots I was working with couldn't make up their minds on what they needed and I was forced to mop an entire hangar bay for the mandatory Thanksgiving lunch. It was bullshit. Another incident was I needed go to Administration to start checking out since I was about 1 week from leaving. Normally our higher ups gave everyone 2 weeks but this dude wanted me to work up until the last day or two. He was running towards me with the officer in charge and tried to spin a story about how I was trying to avoid working. Thank God this officer listened to me about what was going on and the fact I was on the verge of a panic attack (I was having them daily). This officer told him to pound sand and to leave me alone so I could check out. I still had to work until I checked out of a specific shop but Jesus this man had it out for me.
