I'm a Liverpool fan from Ireland, I remember QPR and Liverpool going down to the wire for the title in '76 and the run QPR had in the EUFA cup in '77. I loved watching that QPR team, very entertaining and Stan was right at the heart of it. Slan abhaile Stan.

Villa Fan here, Nice memories from my childhood when Stan was one of those players of the era like Frank Worthington, Duncan McKenzie, Tony Currie, Alan Hudson that you`d pay the attendance fee to watch. Even at the young age of 10yrs at the time, i was absolutely fascinated at the transfer in 1979 of Bowles from QPR to the European Champions forest, Given his and Brian Clough`s reputation as both larger than life characters. But this very transfer tells me that if Clough had become England Manager in the 1970`s as he surely deserved, the soccer mavericks of the era would have had more of a Look in for England than they had under Sir Alf Ramsey and Don Revie and Ron Greenwood. Remember it was also Clough that signed Duncan Mc Kenzie for Leeds, so i am convinced they would have got more than the few paltry caps they received.

My friends and I used to go to Loftus Road from 1972 as 12 year olds and paid a few shillings to get in. We loved that team, Stan Bowles, Don Given, Dave Thomas, Phil Parkes in goal, Terry Mancini, Gerry Francis, Terry Venables, Ian Morgan and the rest. We tried to play like Stan. He was the Gazza and Hazard of his day. Lovely guy, a bit crazy. Best wishes Stan.

Better pitches, lighter balls, different approach to fitness, etc. Very difficult to compare, but I'm quite sure that it would be the opposite. Go back 20 years and further back, they had to rely on talent. How many of the premier league players would have cut it back then? Not many. Different times. This guy had undeniable talent.

This vid should be re-titled "Top 10 Stan Bowles Goals on TV"...I was at every match he ever played in his seven years at QPR and saw him score a LOT of goals which were far FAR better than these ones....It`s a terrible shame the cameras weren`t at all the matches in those days the way they are now....He used to score a ton of world-class direct free kick goals from outside the area too,I`ve never seen another player who could bend and swerve the ball around the wall as much as Stan Bowles did....."Banana shots" as they were called in those days.

I used to go to London quite often and nearly always went to QPR. I saw some wonderful goals from a wonderful player. Why was it that he always seemed to require at least one defender to sit on the floor just as he was trying to shoot. It wasn’t a Stan Bowles goal if he didn’t do that. I remember one game where he ran most of the length of their half and was one on one with the keeper and eventually threw him so many dummies that he just sat down and Bowles simply rolled it in. You just don’t see that any more.
