It might have been my Rams' first home game that season. We were the Champions. QPR stuffed us 5-1. Thing is, I only recall it as an entertaining game.

As a Birmingham fan you might think I should be talking about Trevor Francis but my very first game watching Birmingham was against QPR iway back in the 70' s Stan that day was absolutely off the charts with his skills flicks and tricks and was he who I wanted to be when I grew up . Fantastic player fantastic memories thanks Stan and may you rest in peace.

That’s very generous, considering Stan’s hat trick at the Baseball Ground in a 5-1 win a week after that game v Liverpool.

What a lovely watch. Two team mates of Stan’s reminiscing about the man and footballer. Both QPR ‘royalty’ themselves. I was lucky to watch all 3 together in the shirt 💙 RIP Stan gone but never ever forgotten.

Always remember Leeds fans at Elland Road singing ' Stanley, Stanley, wheres your wife,Stanley, wheres your wife'..Stan turned round to the kop and just shrugged his shoulders. It was at the time hilarious and got a raucous cheer from the crowd. A real character.

Just heard the news. Condolences from a Bournemouth fan who can still remember when football was fun. Stan (and Rodney before him) had an awful lot to do with that. Two of the greatest ever - thank goodness they never played together as the rest of us might as well have packed up and gone home. RIP Stan. Long live Rodders. And all the best to all you R's at this sad time.

No doubt about it Stan Bowles was at home on the pitch. I went to see the side around that time, with Stan on the pitch QPR had every chance to win. He was not a conventional footballer but as Gerry said he was a smart footballer and was intelligent in reading and playing the game. His low centre of gravity made him an artist on the ball. That's what the R'rrrs need in the present age footballing partnerships. Him and Gerry just loved playing together. I was saddened to hear that he contracted that vile disease. Great that his family looked after him during that time.

Rangers fan came down from Scotland at 21. Found a place in Holland park and a new job in Kew. First call on a Saturday was Loftus Road to see QPR. Many home games followed because it was a brilliant team with Stan and co. They nearly won the league that year. Unfortunately the football after that season was marred by a lot of hooliganism at the grounds and I stopped going. Glad to see that dark period in the game has created better stadiums and safety for the fans today.

As Ian Gillard and GF infer, people were either prepared to leave Stan to his own devices or they weren't. The ones that weren't stymied his England career, and I think we were the losers in that respect...four caps!? Bowlsey was a one off, a fantastic football player; as a kid in Bristol I watched him every chance I got. Whilst I'm at it, many unforgettable memories of Gerry F at Bristol Rovers - whom he took to the second division in 1990.

what a fantastic tribute by these two legends, i will be haunted to my grave by Rangers failure to win the league in 76, as the video showed as a pure footballing side they were considerably better than Liverpool with all due respect to them, if only the Norwich result had been different, to have won the title in what was only the 4th top flight campaign in the clubs history would have been so fitting for Stan, Ian gillard is spot on about modern players, robots, yes absolutely, Stan is obviously so well loved and that's brilliant and i'm sure the QPR faithful will make wednesday night a very special occasion(fitting that the opponents are west brom given the history, 67 league cup and 82 fa cup semi) how much better was football in the 70's? i've fallen out of love with the game as it slides to woke predictability and all sorts of crap, RIP Sir Stanley of Bowles, a great player and character forever loved by QPR and all real football fans

Great chat, looking back now I can see how good for the game it would've been had QPR won the title in 76-am a Red who certainly didn't think that at the time!-but Gerry Francis is a bloody decent bloke isn't he? The last down to earth captain of England? Loved hearing the chemistry between Stan and Gerry on the pitch especially...doesn't happen all the time so you recognise how great that stuff is, whatever the level of footy.
