Join us on the incredible story of Kenny Sansom, a true hero of football. Known for his amazing plays with Arsenal, Crystal Palace, and the England team, Kenny's story goes far beyond football. It's a deep and moving tale of his fight with some of life's hardest moments, including his brave fight against addiction and a time of homelessness.
Kenny Sansom's story begins on September 26, 1958, in Camberwell, London, a place far removed from the stadiums where he would later become a star. Born into a loving family that shared a deep passion for football, Kenny was introduced to the game at a very young age. His early years were filled with football, playing in local parks and dreaming of one day making it big. This wasn't just a young boy's fantasy; it was the start of a journey toward becoming one of football's most celebrated defenders. Kenny's talent was clear from the start, but it was his dedication and love for the game that truly set him apart. This chapter of Kenny's life is a testament to the power of dreams and the importance of family in nurturing those dreams. As we delve into Kenny's beginnings, we see the foundation being laid for a remarkable career in football, marked by determination, skill, and the pure joy of playing the game he loved. - Sport
One of the best players I’ve seen in 55 years of being a Palace fan.
Burnley fan here, me and my late pal saw Kenny against France in Bilboa Spain in 1982. Never imagined Kenny falling on hard times, brilliant full back. Get well soon Kenny
Mate I was there too MCFC fan but still amazed at Robsons opener. Saw Samson play his 1st game for England he was still at Palace! Felt so jealous of him, shame how things turn out! Bit like Man City I suppose
UTC
Great player
A day at a time you can overcome your addiction problems.. good luck Kenny
Kenny Sansom is the reason i support Arsenal. He was a friend of my mums cousin and attended their wedding. I had a photo taken with him, although i didn't know who he was as I was very young. But over time, my dad would point him out at Arsenal and England. Especially in the 1986 World Cup and the 1987 Littlewoods Cup win.
He only played for Arsenal for another couple of years after that, but still continues to be a very special player and hero for me.
I went on a Highbury stadium tour with him and mentiond the wedding. Dont think he remembered it! But was so nice.
With all the difficulties he has had in later life he has kept going and helped others. He should be proud.
For me, will always be my favourite Arsenal player.
Thanks Kenny
Kenny Sansom was a fabulous player, as good as any England defender of the past 40 years. Best wishes to him for the future.
Wolves fan here. So sad to see Sansom in this state. Probably the best full back I ever saw. Good luck Kenny.
You didn't see Derek Statham then?
Saw Kenny at the Arsenal recently and he looked well considering everything. Met him in his heyday and he was very approachable and polite. One of our best ever left backs.
Villa Fan, Remember Kenny being part of that exciting Palace " Team of the Eighties" that got promoted under Terry Venables. Fabulous player would be in the 60 Million bracket today.
Get well Kenny Irish fan🇮🇪🇮🇪
He was a brilliant player. 86 Caps is some achievement
Youd think sky would give him a job, couldn't be any worse that Neville
Been out of game too long, maybe best Crystal Palace or Arsenal give him job as Youth Coach, he is however nearly 67.
Him and Gazza would be good viewing 😂
I am a QPR fan and Kenny played for us too, I was in attendance when he scored the winning goal to knock Arsenal out of the FA Cup in a replay (of all teams).
Get well Kenny bless you sir.
Am a spurs fan so obviously no love for Arsenal, but I’m also compassionate, really hope Kenny gets help and regains his health
One of the few Arsenal players i ever had any time for - a Underrated England Great - Best Wishes Fella .
This video brings back memories that will never leave me, i worked a second job at the Crystal Palace supporters club in the early seventies and met him many times, we staff formed a Sunday football club from there and used to train Tuesday nights in the floodlit car park next to the ground and even had the use of the CP changing rooms. Kenny's older brother Peter was our coach (RIP) and was able to turn us into better players, Kenny came along with their younger brother (David i think) who joined in and run rings round us, all of them great players. The core of our team are still together 50 years on. His story is sad we wish him all the best.
Such a sad situation and nothing anyone can do or say unfortunately. I remember him and Derek Statham of West Brom were 2 of the very best Left backs England produced. Imagine them being in their prime now they'd each be worth 50M+ Prayers
Derek Statham should have had more of a look in
@@ianwalker404 Definitely
This is tragic my farther went the same way nothing we ever said or did helped you watch as they literally fall further until there told there is nothing left to done i hope he turns this around around great player so sad
Interesting story ruined by the hateful AI voice over.
and a hateful video title
Yes, Diego Maradonor was a particular highlight.
Wishing you all the best Kenny. Life can be really great again mate.
He was one of the best in his era. Something his admirers say, not him.
Best wishes from afar.
He was brilliant at crystal palace he was world class at Arsenal.
Keep fighting Kenny life is worth so much more here's hoping you find the inner strength to carry on I always think to myself in times of despair there's always people worse off than yourself.best of luck Kenny mark west ham fan
Im a man city fan and watched kenny sansom many times. A great player for club and Country. So sad to see this happen to him. This is when you need your family and friends i hope he wins his battle with drink. And would be nice if arsenal give him a role to keep him focused rather than just having nothing to do but drink. Get well soon Kenny
Good lad, one of my England hero's growing up, there needs to be more support in sport.
Good Luck to Kenny.
I am 4 years older than Kenny and born just one mile from him.
Yet ANOTHER player that my team never scouted for or signed up and like endless others, right under their nose. People like Ian Wright, born nearby ,were even Millwall fans!
Keep going Kenny, When people stop, they don't want it any more. GOD with you.
you repeat yourself all the time could have made this a 2 minute vid, great player kenny.
Spot on .
AI
God bless Kenny lad YNWA . Fantastic defender should have been at Liverpool
Sad story, honestly a really top player that I remember well
Btw Arsenal didn’t get to the 1987 Fa cup final
Tottenham did then they lost to Coventry
Kenny wishing you all the best i have health the last few years but caming from the same neck of woods as you really just glad to be here new same of your family over 50 years now just wish all the best fellow Gunner as well
Take a moment to think about your own relationship with this drug alcohol, it wrecks lives.
Arsenal beat Tottenham in the League Cup semi final in 1987 not the FA Cup as stated at 6.08.
Your right - I was at the three semi final matches as a spurs fan - 😢
Saw him once , towards the end of his career. He was in a pub in Blackfriars., surrounded by yes men hangers on. It was clear how things would turn out.
I remember he was drunk and passed out in Kingston High Street a few years back, was really sad to hear. I did wonder what had happened to him since
I remember I had a pair of Kenny Sanson shin pads!
World class player, would get in any team😢
Hope you get well Kenny..
You were a part of my youth growing up..
Kenny was a great footballer, sad to see....
It's incredible how much waffle can be crammed into one video
Get your facts right pal. This was 5 bloody years ago. Kenny is doing fine now. Tosser
Kenny has to help himself. I wish him the best.
In 1987 Arsenal didn’t get to the FA Cup semi. That was the League cup.
Remember watching Kenny wear the black and white shirt and is one of my favorite footballers who entertained fans
Best of luck to him great player
Good luck Kenny
He made bad decisions yet had the capability not to. He was able bodied and wealthy. There is nothing sad here other than the level of stupidity.
Wonderful player, I really hope he recovers.
Brilliant player!
God Help him to get well and recover ROI supprter.
I sat right behind his mum at the Aztec Stadium in Mexico City in the 1986 Maradona game, having bought a spare ticket for the family of players section off one of the England coaches outside the ground. I stupidly something unnecessarily rude about his ability to my girlfriend and his mum told me off. And yes from our position it looked like handball. 30 years later I met Trevor Steven in Hong Kong at the six-a-sides. We were just dumb fans, these men were amazing athletes and heroes.
His player profile would be ideal in an Arteta Arsenal team.
"How he lives is sad"... I must have missed that bit.
Good on ya kenny
Kenny Sansom LOVED HIS PIE AND MASH AFTER TRAINING AT ARSENAL, THE CUT AT WATERLOO, AS A PLAYER A REAL PLAYER AND CLASS PROFESSIONAL. THINKING OF YOU MATE!❣❣❣
If that's the case roy summed it up perfectly, football pundits like Write, Linacure and Sheara why do we need these people talking about matches were already watching THEY SHOULD BE abolished open a chippy or summit Fuck of hasbeans.
Success can be a heavy burden for some 😢
So sad 😢
The most capped player to wear a Newcastle shirt..none of them whilst he was with us!
Arsenal won the LIttlewoods cup in 87, not the FA Cup.
The clubs really should have done a lot more to help the players to prepare for when they would inevitably retire in their early thirties.
How can you say he was ahead of his time by starting attacks from defense, the great player Bobby Moore did it in the World Cup Final in 1966 to set up Englands 4th and final goal. Now that was about 20 years before Kenny Sansom
it was the League Cup in 1987 not FA Cup who write these
Sounds like one of those dreadful AI scripts. The pronunciation of Maradona gives it away.
He was the one player stopping Derek Statham (WBA) from playing for England!!!
Good luck you was a great player do not waste your life you only get one chance.if I can beat cancer.you can win your fight
Should anyone really be posting things like this . He has a family and children and people putting video’s and posts up are Humiliating to him and his family. Rather shameful don’t you think?
I have bumped in to him randomly twice and found him easy to get on with.my idea of a star
When you are down like KS has been and still is, you are closer to the ground than a snakes ar*ehole, you couldn't get any lower. Instead of his spirits been lifted, the spirits threw him to the ground, along with his gambling turmoil. This man does have a mountain to climb to just get up and stay on his feet. Don't know where he is in his head and he probably doesn't either, but I do hope through someone's help, that he can find peace of mind and live out the rest of his time without mentally and physically torturing himself. Good luck Kenny, you were a great player and bloke, give yourself a break and get your dignity back.
The tragedy of kenny samson?
I'm making this clear now, being judgemental of another human who has suffered makes you look like you are just dragging him down.
The demon drink and gambling ruins another life.
Great full back, prevented dereck statham from getting many england caps,(bit of london bias i think)
yawn No just a better player Little midlinder syndrome
I don't know about anyone else, but it just sounds like the narrator is repeating the same old football cliches over & over & over but just wording them differently. For 10 minutes!
Buddy arsenal never won the 87 fa cup final ,as for the semi final spurs beat Watford, you haven't done your homework
Sometimes when you finish your Football career this happens.when football is their no more.
George Best,Jimmy Greaves,Jim Baxter,Paul McGrath,Tony Adams,Paul Merson,Paul Gascoigne…DRINK did so much damage to so many footballers of the 60s,70s,80s and 90s.All that spare time, the drinking culture that was so rife. It’s what Alex Ferguson clamped down on when he took over at Old Trafford.Garry Birtles talked about it at Nottingham Forest. As soon as training was done,he’d to a wine bar in the City Centre with some of his teammates. It was the culture of the time and Arsenal when Kenny Sansom was there had a similar culture.
There.
overpaid footballers on the lash what's new?
@@morrisanderson3180his era wasn't as lucrative as the game is now
That's sad he made such bad choices
The title of this video is very misleading. There has been nothing reported recently to indicate that Kenny is drinking again.
'Karry-out, Kenny'
Kenny' was one if not the best defenders that ever played the game
Really?????!!
@martint9610 OK I was over the top with that comment.
Surely the PFA can help this ex player out
Sure he passed years ago...not the first time i seen this...
The fa need to do more to help him and others, maybe educate the players for life after retiring, only a few make it in coaching or media
1987 Spurs beat Arsenal in the FA cup semi-final.......
No
Is that being narrated by a computer /Ai ? Best of luck Kenny anyway 🙏
Played against the amazing Maradoner apparently
Great name for a takeaway gaff. I'm going to apply for a business loan ASAP.
You need a pint with a whiskey chaser Kenny.get em in !!
Maybe the guy needs a bit of help , instead of been publicly flogged 😡
Well, it's not very public, just a vid on youtube about an old football genius. And it will help him find a sponsor.
@@Calidore1 so how much more public than a public forum does it need to be genius?
Nearly as good as Derek Statham
Seems to be a theme of alcoholism with Arsenal players.
What’s with this rambling narration going round in circles and repeating itself over and over,
Unfortunately he drank the arse off everything like gazza super defender no doubt 🧐 about that
Never use 200 words when 2,000 will do eh?
He kicked a football about for a living. He's no different than anybody else though. Most people are going through some struggle in their life. Sometimes there is no helping people. Some dont want to be helped. Others find the strength from somewhere within.
Mara....Who ?
He’s quit the booze
Things like this r not shown on the bull shit tv and newspapers advertising it shud be shown in all the schools but no the hide the danger ov drinking alcohol
Things like this won't help any recovering addict it'll add to their self hatred. The language you have used in the title is purely in your own self interest not Kenny's
Don’t watch it then!
0:32
4 mn video spun for adsense
ahouls be paid zero unless you upload from a mike
He’s an alcoholic just say it earlier 🤦
Really..... shame he didnt have to do a proper 8 hour day like most of us then he would probably learn what life is really like.... instead of a over privileged bloody footballer....
So you don't know any 8 hours a day alcoholics..he was not privileged he was talented and would have worked hard to reach the heights he did
Kurt , what you wish on him ,I know he wouldn't wish on you ,and i wish you well
The problem is you think you know what alcoholism is ,where he knows what alcoholism is ,
He's had it all ? No sympathy
He won't want any sympathy off someone like you who thinks he knows what alcoholism is all about
He knows what alcoholism is about today ,
Don't take it personal, I used to be a know all, the same as you ,,I used to judge people as well like you ,do , I knew what the problem with them was ,,I just couldn't see what the problem with me was
I had to come down off my high horse ,and listen and learn , you seem to be on a very high horse ,mind you don't hurt yourself and fall , like I said don't take it personal your not unique there's plenty like you
Cant believe i watched most of this .. badly scripted and repetitive. No real feeling the guy.
where was he when Diego scored that goal,, The ITalian defenders would have stopped Diego... Pat Van Den Howe was better
Injured you tosser
