Stan Bowles emerged as one of football's most enigmatic talents during the 1970s, a period often called the golden age of English football. With a career that spanned over two decades, Bowles gained many fans and frustrated defenders with his sublime skills. Yet the last moments of his life were marked by personal struggles that ended on a sad note.
Stan Bowles was born on December 24, 1948, in the bustling city of Manchester, England, a place rich in industrial history and emerging football culture. Growing up in a working-class family, Bowles's early life was framed by the post-war British context, characterized by economic challenges and a strong community spirit. His upbringing in Manchester, a city with a profound football heritage, naturally sowed the seeds of his future career. Football was not just a sport but a way of life in the Bowles household and the wider community, offering a form of escape and expression for many young individuals like Stan. - Sport
Sold me a bent MOT back in the early 90s in the New Inn in Brentford. Great character 😢
He wasn't living that bad, good life great career. R.i.P. Stan.❤
Dementia's a sad end for anyone.
A unique talent. You will probably never see his kind in football again. He was often spotted around pubs in west London. Or the nearest bookies ! I hope he has meet up with George Best again. RIP Stan. Super Hoops legend.
R.I.P. Stan 🙏
The last moment, weeks, months of most peoples lives are not great. Stan lived a great life and had wonderful skills.
What a maverick Stan Bowles really was!!!...An absolute joy to watch!!!...Sleep essy footballing legend ⚽️❤⚽️❤⚽️❤😊
Character and a left foot like a magic wand class player in his day and left behind a lot of great memories and I'm a man utd fan RIP Stan 🙏
He was the only footballer to appear on the suns page 3 with a page 3 girl .
both topless.
R I P Bowler 😢
He was one of those players like the Italian legend Pirlo. That type of player was not the most athletic but he could find space in a phone box & find someone in a goal scoring position or even slow down the game & look for someone who is. Players like Stan were pretty rare to English top tier football in the ‘70’s . Pity he never went to places like Italy or Spain. They would have loved him there. R.I.P. Bowler😢
We did, England managers didn't understand football
Not another ''tragic'' figure who went to the top in his career.
Great player
Could still be seen in local betting shops up till months before his death
Tremendous ability but a managers nightmare he couldnt be coached....
I lived in the Bush when he was great, I was in the bookies before games and he came in just before kick off . Saw him at White City dogs and the pub in Stamford Brook with Shanksy, I did that too , it didn’t make me a bad person and certainly didn’t make him one. Certainly the best player ever to grace Loftus Road. The people who make these collages don’t have a clue about items . R.I.P. Stanleeeee .
RIP Stan 🙏
Sad Life i don't think so RIP Stan God Bless
Im sure Stan would have said he had a good life
I remember Stan he was a good player I remember him at Bristol city when he was playing I think it was for qpr Gary collier the city player tackled him on the line and Stan’s ankle was hanging at a angle it was broke and he looked up at collier and said now look what you’ve done = he was a real pro and so skill full and very lovable
the 70swere the golden years of English football.the teams were full of British players.
R.I.P Bowles Legend 😢🙏💙🤍
Also played for Carlisle United, a pleasure to watch, was on a different planet to those around him.
Talk about Bend it Beckham, Stan was doing that long before him.
I was behind Stan (in the crowd) at a match, when he took a direct free kick. He sent the ball around the opposition wall by at least 2m (2 yards) and scored.
Yes,I saw him do that many times as well but the TV cameras weren`t at every match in those days.He scored a lot of incredible free kicks from outside the box but none of them seem to have been captured on film,he could bend the ball like nobody else in the country!!
many years back when i was a regular at white city dog track he was always ther along with radio 2 host jimmy young
He was always there with Don Shanks or a blond girl. I worked on the turnstiles at White City and he use to come through my turnstile.
Legend ❤ we have a tribute video from his best friend Don Shanks on our page. Is it ok to share the link with you ?
It would be nice if the commentator was an actual human 😂
It would be nice if it was factually correct too.
He was a gambler not a wild drinker
Stan would be in the bookies 10 minutes before kick off then go and entertain the Loftus road crowd for 90 minutes lol what a legend
Seen him a lot in is local Moston the gardeners arms top of lightbowne road, before he passed
His sister used to run the hare and hounds in town Anita she passed away a while back
He was so good that he is on my WhatsApp pic ⚽️
A natural footballer and great man.....some didn't get him....their problem!!!
One of a Player 😷
WHAT A PATHETIC HEADLINE, His life was good ,a great footballer RIP
Agree. It’s how Sports Icons get their viewers, by using click-bait headlines like this. They should by kicked off YT.
Headline is misleading, sad he suffered from dementia, but he lived how he wanted to so that is not sad at all...
I went to a school called St Edmund's in Hammersmith in the 70s. I was told that they used to have to drag him out of betting shops on the Uxbridge road on a Saturday afternoon to play a game.
Click bait
