Bob Latchford was typical of many British strikers of the time - he could not play real football to save his life but knew where the goal was and had a knack of putting the ball in.
What a lineup we should have won the league that season, great moment when QPR missed their penalty when Duncan McKenzie was joking with Stan Bowles and George Wood saved it, Dave Jones was another great character he always stopped to have a chat on match days coming off the players car park behind the Park End.
Was as that match. Used to go see QPR for their home games as I lived nearby and Dave Thomas was my favourite player. I was so made up that he joined Everton.
Just to add as an Evertonion …I was at the game …….years later working for Royal Mail …met a lad who lived in preston lancs ….he had a season ticket for q.p.r. Now that’s a supporter in anyone’s book 💙
Dave Thomas could land a ball on a sixpence from 50 yards away. Absolutely the best winger I've seen play for Everton, and Latchford had alot to thank him for when he scored 30 league goals in a season.
That man again big Bobby Latchford!...how that team never won the league I will never understand...skilful, and never stopped working, and running...are you watching EVERTON...2016???........look, and learn..⚽️
Got nicked there , on the east lancs, me and my mate, hitchhiking to London. These 2 Everton fans from Kirkby had robbed an Ford escort mk.1 and were getting a lift. We just gave them £3 at the time, for a lift towards petrol. We never got charged by police, but had missed the game. Only getting released 24 hrs later. From around 78 to 1986 aged around 17 to 25 we went to away games mainly to fight rather than watch the game. We both settled down now and chat about going away to Man United, city, villa etc etc and fighting going to away games on the old British rail specials. Great days they were.
we qpr had started going downhill which eventually led us to relegation 78/79 season, players like shanks. abbott, busby, eastoe where not up for it. we had beaten everton 5 0 the previous season i went to both matches. it was pretty heartbreaking to see dave thomas with another shirt. two thoughts on the everton kit, umbro shirt and shorts, adidas track suit and great the badge E F C.
Well remember that ref,Roger Kirkpatrick, looking like some Dickensian character/Mr Kipling. Thems were t he days when refs didn't take centre stage. Mind you,the fubblers didn't cheat like todays prima donna's... Now when I was a lad....
That first Everton goal was hilarious. Bob Latchford one of the deadliest strikers in the country left completely unmarked.

Everton had a good team that season but they weren't in Nottingham Forest's class overall especially at the back.

Frank Byrne Special player.
Classic shirt 'badge' for Everton around this time. Some great imagination from whoever came up with that one.

My Dad was at this match behind the goal
Lequel Francis jouait à QPR ?
Gerry ou Trevor ?
What would we pay to get king, latchford, mckenzie, Pearson and Dave Thomas. COYB.
Brilliant match... Shame about the score!!! Up the R's!!
Would have won the league if we had bought Shilton our 2 keeps were rubbish wood and dia Davis need not say any more
J'ai l'impression que Shilton voulait clairement quitter son club.
Vu la facilité qu' a eue forest
pour l'acheter .
Ref doesnt look the fittest
