      @@ComicalBeing0210 Thanks for your reply. Hazard isn't what I would call a dribbler as such because I can't recall seeing him run with the ball for more than about 3-5 seconds max and often not even that long. I havent seen every minute of his playing career of course but have seen a lot of his games. Compared to many others who went on longer runs with the ball though, taking it past many players makes me place Hazard in a different category. Brilliant player not in doubt, he could easily jink past a couple of players explosively and shoot and score but I don't think that is enough to describe him as a dribbler, its beating one or 2 players quickly and releasing the ball and thats a different skill in my opinion. Its not a criticism of him as I think of him as a great player but its a criticism of the idea that he is in the top 10 dribblers of all time because thats just not true when there are other players who did more dribbling than him

      Every era has its difficulties. Current defenders are way better (in every aspect, and by far) than Maradona's era. More technical, more physically apt, better prepared physically and mentally. Also modern defensive tactics are also way way better than Maradona's era, don't get confused. On the other hand, like you mention, in Maradona's era tackling was I think at the height of its brutality (hence the rule changes) because defensive tactics had evolved and defenders started to be better prepared (you couldn't just throw some bully at the position anymore). Defending was now considered the base for a good attack (this is why people confuse with "this era defending was the hardest one", which is totally WRONG). Also the pitches were much worse, making ball control more difficult.

    I was taken to my first professional game by my father in 1964 ( Chelsea 0 v Man Utd 2 ) and the greatest dribbler I have seen since then was George Best. He had incredible balance and seemed to be able to glide over the "glue pot" muddy pitches of the day ( unlike the bowling green pristine pitches modern players benefit from ) and had to contend with vicious tackles from behind. A true genius. Whether you can say any of these players were the best of "All Time" is a bit superfluous as there is very little or no footage of football players from the early part of the 20th century up to the 1950's. Players such as Stanley Matthews were heralded as "the Wizard of the dribble". Better to say they were the best of their time.

      @Wanbon1 Před 7 měsíci +6

      I thought exactly the exact thing as you, I,ve played on heavy puggy pitches no comparison , on top of that the ball weighed a ton being wet and muddy best was the best in my opinion , puts these prima Donna,s to shame, and as you said absolutely hacked to pieces but didn,t go down at the first chance..

    • @straypass
      @straypass Před 7 měsíci

      Yes I remember the heavy footballs which when wet doubled in weight ( no wonder a lot of those older ex players suffered dementia ) . I played semi pro in the late 60's early 70's and was a forward. The legacy from that is I have had one full knee replacement and another expected and shins show the holes from the over the top tackles with metal studs. Men were men no rolling about feigning injury in those days @@Wanbon1

    • @ntambua_mbombo_official
      @ntambua_mbombo_official Před 6 měsíci +5

      Are you talking about rough tackles? Do you know many awful tackles did Pelé, Maradona and Messi endured? Pitches were bad for defenders as well. When you have to defend on a pot holed pitch with the ball bumping into holes and changing detection it's not easy to defend. Sometimes you can get injured just by the pitch. So don't try to find excuses for Best because Pelé, Garrincha played in the same conditions.
      Today players like Messi are studied using technology, how he carries the ball, how he moves and so forth, it's not easy to surprise people who have been studying your playing style for years.

    • @straypass
      @straypass Před 6 měsíci +8

      Not sure where you are coming from in your summation about defenders and "pot holed " pitches I would just like to emphasise that Pele thought George Best was the greatest player he ever saw ( George Best was the greatest footballer I ever saw and played the game more like a Brazilian than a European. It is one of football's biggest disappointments that our paths never crossed when we were at our peak.) It's just a matter of fact that up to recent times when grass and pitch technology greatly improved (along with the footballs used ) that in Britain and Northern Europe which suffer from heavy rainfall, frost and snow during the
      winter months often pitches were a sea of mud how footballers of that era ( attackers and defenders) managed to play any decent football was a tribute to them . I would also point out that Pele and Garrincha played all their club football in Brazil apart from Pele having a short stint with New York Cosmos before he retired. I wonder how they would have coped having to play in wet, freezing cold Manchester in the middle of February in the 50's and 60's and being hacked from behind by the likes of Norman Hunter and Ron "Chopper" Harris ?@@ntambua_mbombo_official

      Amen to that Trivia. My Father was playing in the days of Garrincha, When i watched George Best, Pele. Maradone and Cruyff, etc, play in the flesh, I go excited and I declared them as the best most skillful Players ever. He gave me one of those Father smiles that said "aww, bless him, he really does not have a clue" and made me sit down and watch Garrincha play from some old reels he had. He told me, "Watch the Master at work, every Footballer you see pull off a trick to beat the opposition today, he did years before. Think of James Brown and how many Artists have copied him through the years...that is Garrincha." He was right. To say Messi is the best dribble ever, is the most idiotic thing I have read today and probably all year. Given the conditions that footballers play in these days. Given the science behind the game, the boots they play with, the balls, the carpets they play on and given how much Players are wrapped in cotton wool and protected, that is a ridiculous statement to make. Next this idiot will be telling us that Messi, game for game, is the greatest goal scorer ever.

The truly great ones take the innovations of the past and improve on them. I agree with everything you say until the very end. I have never seen anyone but Messi to consistently getting past so many players attacking him at the same time. And I've seen the old reels, and watched Maradonna, Platini, Rummenigge and other greats play entire matches. They were my idols. But nobody holds a candle to the dribbling of Messi.

      @@guittadabe5214 I hear what you are saying and of course, as far as Messi is concerned, he (in my opinion) along with Ronaldo, are the best of their Generation. As I have already written, I just hate this comparing. it is impossible to take a Player from the 30's through to late 80's and say "X is a better Player than Y", because everything was/is different. And i am sure i do not have to tell you, I mean EVERYTHING. I wont go into again what is different, because as I have written, everything was/is lol. Not only that, i am sure we can all find an argument as to why X,Y.Z, is better than A.B.C and argue that fact until the cows come home. As this Thread has proven, everyone has a different opinion as to why X,Y,Z should be in that top 10 and A,B,C should not. Again I hear what you are saying, but you cannot watch Garrincha, Maradona, Best, etc, the way they used to glide past Players, on the excuses called a football pitch and then watch Messi doing the same on the "carpets" he plays on and say "Oh yes, Messi is the best. " I am 70, I played Pro football, although sadly not good enough to play for an elite Club, but i did ok :0) Like most Players of my era, I started off Semi-Pro on a Saturday and also playing for my local Club on a Sunday, just for fun and to help them out, where I spent more time trying to negotiate the lumps and pumps of the football pitch,i f you could call it that, getting on with a ball that was more like a medicine ball, boots that would have been better served in a Coalmine, etc.. some years later I played my first Cup Game that was worth a toss and that was on the turf of Bayern Munich...Oh...my...sweet Jesus...No wonder Messi can do what he does. My Gran could do what he does on pitches like that and she has been dead going on 40 years. The REAL class, for me anyway, is being able to do it on a pitch resembling a Cowpat. Just watch Garrincha, Best, Cruyff and the like and take note of the pitches they applied their skills on....no way can you compare Messi to them and I am sorry and as I have written 50 times already, I do hear what you are saying and "up to a point" you do have a point, but it is just not viable. You say "Messi glides past Players" and he does, but this is 20021, the era where you dare not breath on an opposition Player for fear of getting sent off, there is no way Messi could play in the 70's against Liverpool, with Tommy Smith, Lawrenson, Hansen in the Team and "glide" past them. Or Chelsea and Harris, Leeds and Hunter, Bremner, Charlton and I can just see Messi playing against Milan and have Maldini watching him "glide" past him :0) I would love to be playing football in 2021and in the late 90's onward, I WOULD be playing for Bayern, Juventus, Chelsea, City, Real. In fact i would go as far as to say, compared to yester-year and everything about football, compared to todays game, it would be a joy...and with the skills I had...a complete doddle :0) So you see, although i DO think Messi is a great Player, the best EVER?....Naaah! lol

Despite playing only one game in 1962, he scored one beautiful goal. He won two world titles playing for Santos, and you should keep in mind that at that time Santos made more money playing friendly games, because people from all countries wanted to see Pelé playing. That's why he has a lot of goals and was the most famous football player. Despite being short, he was able to jump higher than CR7. A lot o dribbles were invented by Pelé, by the way. And despite "winning" 3 titles (actually 2, you fraud) against plumbers and farmers he doesn't hold a single world record. Most goals scored overall? Nope. Most goals in per world cup? Never. Most WC wins? Nope. The funniest part is that he doesn't even hold these records if you consider just Brazilians. So much for his world cup campaign. Next, anyone can stat-pad against plumbers in unofficial games. But, if you want to consider these laughable "goals" then he still gets beaten by many others: Gerd Müller scored more (1483), Puskas scored more (1571), Josef Bican scored more (1813+). etc. again the fraud his exposed.
      Now let's talk about his club career and Santos. When he's not stat-padding against LITERAL PLUMBERS AND FARMERS his stats were not impressive at all: 34 goals in 84 games (0.44 GPG) for the Campeonato Brasileiro Série A. Trash.

      Messi dribbles 4 or 5 players every time he plays, and he's been doing it for 16 years. There is no comparison with any other player, neither Maradona nor Pele, nor Ronaldinho. That is the difference. Ronaldinho had four or five years at the highest level, Messi, I repeat, has had this same level for 16 years, not even Maradona played like this for so long, the same for Zidane, Rivaldo, Platini, Romario, etc. Messi is the best every day he plays.

    which the players have played. The only thing I disagree with is the
    fourth position for Luis Nazario da Lima, who I think should be at the
    top of the ranking (perhaps the first place is contested with Messi).
    Ronaldo may have been inferior to the other players on the list in other
    aspects, but the effectiveness of his dribbling, the consistency with which he was
    able to get himself in front of the goalkeeper in any situation, making
    legends like Baresi, Nesta, Maldini and the cream of Serie A's golden
    era powerless, still remains a mystery to me
