Yep, had only flown WW2 in IL-2 and WarThunder before hopping in helos in DCS. Though I have since bought a few jets in DCS, I can't stop flying the helo's. It's too fun, especially in VR. The Huey and Mi-8 are both a joy to fly on the server, both are challenging in different ways and both are great fun in helo dogfights.
It's nice to have a purpose. I also picked up the Mi-8 for this server. Is there anything in the works like EWR reports for the helos since overlord bot ignores us? Thanks for the great server!

Trying the mig-21 rn and I have to say that your cold war server is the most fun and one of the best if not the best server I've ever played on.Thank you for this masterpiece.
I make the majority of my landings in the Mi-8 as forward rolling, but yeah you really do have to line it up right. And make sure the brakes aren't engaged.
I just played for the first time on the Server, killed 3 Hinds and Mi-8 with my Gazelle. ☺️ But the Enemy choppers didnt know what to do so they where easy kills.
Do you think a CH-53 or MH-53 Pave Low would be fitting for DCS? I for one would LOVE a 53, but I know that some people are dead-focused on weapons and weapons alone. A heavy-lift helo would be a ton of fun IMO. Especially if ED would allow us to store things in the internal bay!
I finally made the jump to multiplayer and realized how unprepared I was. When just messing around with single player missions I always had hot starts, easy communications set or even starting in the air to save time. You can't do that in most online servers. When you spawn in, you are cold and dark, you have to radio the tower for each step of the process and there's no external views, nothing. Just you in a cold and dark aircraft. And in some aircraft, like the Mi-8 (and it's pronounced Em-eye eight, not me eight) the radios are a whole world unto itself. So, I had to go back and basically start from scratch. There were some aircraft I had never done a proper landing! When the mission was completed I would just jump out and not bother to land where I was supposed to land. That shit won't fly in a server when others are counting on you to land, rearm and refuel, sit while the mechanics repair damage and get back out there. So my advice to all new players is before you even fire the weapons on your module, make sure you can do all that stuff I just mentioned. You'll never make it on multiplayer if you don't. I love the view in the mi8 its my favorite to setup sams and csar. although I find the gazelle better at csar due to it can protect its self a lot easier.
You'll have a lot more success with mi8 rockets if you have no sideslip and solid forward speed. If you are using your rudder at all and not trimmed its a good indication you will have some significant horizontal deviance. Try getting a good speed for the run then trim out and cut just a bit of power before firing the rockets so you arent being dragged along by the rotors, you more closely mimic the attack run of a fixed wing aircraft - straight in
@@Enigma89 how good is the Mi8 vs the ground targets on your server? Just getting back to DCS after a year hiatus and the Mi8 has been my bae off and on for years. Considering spending the time to really learn the technical aspects of the bird and getting into 'multirole' play with it if you will.
@@CH-cm1yx @C H The Mi8 is viable on the server because it can do troop deployments. Basically it can ferry troops to the front and the troops blow up targets. Once the SPAAA is down then the rockets are fine. It's no hind but it is a good troop bus. Just know that the troop deployments are bugged on the server due to the latest DCS patch. We have a fix and are releasing it this week.
@@Enigma89 To me, it's the opposite when it comes to helos in PVP flying NOE and then getting to the opposite team frontline to land and deploy troops almost never ends well on my end lol though when you pull it off, it's an intense and rewarding experience.
Hello Enigma, are there stats which planes or helis are used not so muche? Is it in generel more suited learning the Hind or Hip for the cold war server (troop transport etc)? THANKS)
Can you explain a little bit about why you’re looking for? I still am really confused about this server. Are you just lookin for things near that front line? Is this how ground attacks work?

It's coming. I try to maintain at least a 1:3 ratio for IL-2 these days but there is just nothing new in IL-2 right now. It's just been the same thing for literally the last 12 months it's just been kind of a bummer :( I am really excited for the Me-410 and the new Ju-88 so expect to see that when it gets released.
I read all of the comments even from the older videos. The Hind typically did not carry weapons and troops. The Hind is one of the strongest modules on the server so we had to balance it out a bit because Blue has no attack chopper.
Can you pick up a blue pilot with a red helicopter? The door gunners are switched off? I flew at the weekend first time mi-8 and this lazy idiots did nothing XD

I normally only participate in DCS competitive, which is fixed wing, but your server has have given me a place to allow me to fly my helicopters :)

Quick tip for flying near/over power lines, always fly over the actual tower itself, it is much easier to clear it.
I tried out a lot of servers, but your server is golden.
flying the Mi8 feels majestic
The Mi-8 really doesn't mind rolling landings, as long as you're going completely straight, otherwise it's really fast to tip over.

I almost exclusively fly helos. Its so much fun especially if you have another bird in section with you.

There are stats but they are not publicly facing yet. The mi8 is one of the used least modules on the server but it has seen a recent uptick

You use the f10 radio menu to load troops. Check out Ryu1940 on youtube or Rhyn0 on twitch for your MI-8 needs.
