I have been secretly flying the Gazelle around a bit, it is def. forgotten but can be fun.
Yes, I find it to still be fun! More so when you go 1v1 with a Hind and can out maneuver them.
honestly, one of my favourite modules. so fun to fly, and very rewarding. especially fun if you aquire targets, fire tows, then kill the targets, all without a hover

The Gazelle is super underrated, been having a blast with a wingman online in it. Mostly before the Apache was released but even after the Gazelle is in many ways more rewarding. You're range with AG-missiles is shorter than most AAA which means you have to work hard to take stuff out. It's fast, nimble and fun.

Learned from Casmo on the low level hell discord that when encountering ground fire, your first inclination will be to turn away, but you shouldn't do that, it makes you easier to hit, and your most vulnerable parts are exposed (tail rotor and engines) instead slightly turn away, get low and find cover before turning away to reengage
Because every helicopter pilot in DCS is an expert and says it flies like crap even when real Gazelle pilots who have flown it in DCS tell them with the right curves its close with a few oddities

@@Blake-jl8lh It does fly like on rails when tuned right, but a helicopter that can fly upside down for extended periods or that can't experience vrs doesn't fly like a real helicopter, and I've flown real helicopters.

I started my DCS experience flying the Huey and moved on to other aircrafts. My passion is flying helicopters so the Gazelle was in my cross hairs. It was difficult at first, but like a wild horse, it takes time and patience to master it. With the proper setup, the Gazelle is just as easy and fun to fly as the other Helicopters. The key to enjoying the Gazelle is choosing the right missions for it. I use it for scouting missions and in places where the threat is very light; you will find it very rewarding that you and your tiny helicopter can identify and in some cases destroy enemy scouts or early warning systems so your teammates can advance and complete their assigned missions.
In closing, the helicopter got a bad name because people don’t take the time to learn to fly it or they use it improperly. Enjoy!
You earned a sub mate, I love the Gazelle it's a little sports car. Everyone complains about the flight model but it's a super light chopper you need to be gentle with the controls. You seem to have mastered it, nice flying 😎

Thank you.... I started DCS with the Viper but found it too hard with the setup I had originally. Also not that much of a fan of modern jets (cause most fights are just BVR). I do plan to show modern jet videos in the future but right now I'm just showing more cold war era videos.

Good let people miss out. This heli is my absolute joy and love. Thing is one smooth operator. Highly suggest setting your axis to reduce the Y value from 100 to 60 with NO CURVE so things are linear. If you have an extension on your joystick you can adjust the Y value a bit higher since the extended controls give you...more control.

I fly it a lot with 20mm cannon and rockets on Enigma. Enigma won’t allow Mistrals…blah..blah…but the Hind has missiles…go figure! So, I take the 20mm and go Hind hunting…The Hind can be defeated if you aim for the bottom of the rotor…no sweat, watch them turn to molten steel as they hit the ground! Oh yeah, take the doors off for a better view!
I’ve asked him about adding the Mistral to the server when they add a2a missiles to the Hind. Apparently he tried it out and the range for the Mistral missiles are insane! So it was more of a balance decision not to add it
well the gazelle mistral cannot do anything else except for a/a, so i would say it makes quite a bit of sense to allow it to carry very powerful a/a missiles if it is specialized on anti air

5 of my videos are in your search - I love the Gazelle I just haven't played DCS in a year. Hunting and outwitting SAM's has been one of my best gaming experiences.
It is a ton of fun and probably one of the most satisfying things to do if accomplished

As much as it is true that the Gazelle is not seen very often, I will point out that it is a very capable JTAC. And the addition of the RWR makes it invaluable in a heli section.

The Gazelle is definitely an underrated heli, but it is understandable, as it has been proven to have a somewhat inaccurate flight model when compared to publicly available flight data.

PolyChop have teased they're working on mix and match loadouts for a future update, but like most improvements to the SA342 it's seems to be in the queue for after the Kiowa releases. Still would be great to have double cannons or rockets on the L
That would be great! I’d love to see all helicopters get more add to their arsenal! I also can’t wait for the Kiowa. Its gonna be a great blue team helo like it is for the Hind on red team

I just hate the flight model, but it's the sort of helicopter I love the most and it really hurts that it's so neglected by the developers

@@Blake-jl8lh If I let go of the stick the helicopter levels itsel off like an airplane, the collective has no effect on the helicopter other than adding power and giving lift, the transitions from forward flight into hover feel terrible as in suddenly something clicks and the heli is on a perfect hover, instead of gradual corrections. It's literally impossible to get it into VRS because it's modelled so poorly, you can menouver it in reallly unrealistic ways that IRL would cause rotor departure but in DCS is absolutely no problem. RBS is modeled poorly the heli seems to stop on a dime like it should, but there is little effect on the rotation of the blades, as if it remained unaffacted (the list goes on for a while). The module itself is full of bugs as well, playing with others online was broken for a LONG time.
I have my curvature at 25 but the biggest thing for this helicopter is setting the Y Saturation to around 30 and then see what you like after. This is what gives the aircraft more weight and doesn’t make it feel like a drone

I love the Gazelle. It’s a blast to fly and once you get the curves set right she flies smoother. I really wish you could use it for a recon/jtac. It has the equipment just can’t laser designate. But if I just feel like sightseeing this is my got to. There is a video by spud knocker or growling sidewinder they did with a gazelle pilot and they went into great detail about the curve settings. I ran with those settings and what a huge difference it made. I can hold a hover manually, plus take off to landing greatly improved. Also in VR it’s amazing. In conclusion the devs really need to give her some much needed attention.

Using the 20mm Hispano with HE rounds on light armor is really fun. It just sucks you have to get in so close for those TOW missiles. You can forget sneaking up on a Tunguska. The multi crew is a help. I have used it to rescue my downed buddies in some mission I build.

also, on the FM, the thing doesn't even vrs.....they might have gotten the maneuverability correct, but it's crummy you ha e to tune the bejesus out of it to get the correct feel, and even then it still does stuff no helicopter does, like fly upside-down, won't vrs, and other neat "tricks"
I'm sorry, but even though I personally enjoy this little thing sometimes it is NOT a realistic helicopter.

I actually quite enjoy the gazelle, even if its sometimes more like a rodeo on a stubborn bull. I also find it easier to not use the auto hover.
I fly with a force feedback joystick, so in helicopters the force trim actually holds the stick in place when you activate it. The problem is, with the gazelle at least, if you have any sort of curve in the axis tuning the force trim doesn’t work properly any more.
I think there’s a new option in the Special menu for the gazelle to set curves that work with the force feedback… but between the Apache and the UH-1 I haven’t really had the incentive to test this out!
Dude, the Mistral is op I've gone 8-0 on pvp servers with it loads killing hornets, vipers, flanker they just don't expect it

A lot of the hate comes from people being used to the Ka-50, and UH-1. They are heavier helicopters that take a bit to make them move. The Gazelle in contrast is super light in comparison, and it is a twitch beast as a result. Cosmo has some nice curves on his channel for it and I use those and have no issues with it at all, in fact after some practice it is very fun to fly. Now, it will fly like an R/C helicopter but, don't fly it that way, and it won't do it. I've seen the videos of it flying upside down, or hovering sideways but if you don't fly it like that it won't do it. I'll admit the FM needs work, and I am hoping that the OH-58D is better as it is a helicopter that I worked on and flew in in the Army, so I hope they get it right.
I found that changing the Y saturation to around 30 is very good. Gives that heavier feel. Then tweak it to your liking

The Gazelle seams really agile and to have a great thrust to weight ratio.

Because it's a horrible module, Polychop admitted it. it feels like flying a drone. i own this module and i'm still waiting for the FM updates and other improvements that will supposedly bring it to the acceptable standard we were hoping from a DCS product.

@@Blake-jl8lh Last time I gave it a look it didn't even pay lip service to the laws of physics. As a specific example, you could fly upside down for extended periods. With the engine off, it should accelerate at 9.8m/s^2 just from gravity, and with it on even higher. It didn't do that. It would basically glide at full power upside down instead. It was extremely funny and wildly unrealistic. That's just one example, it had a lot more problems. I haven't looked at it in years, maybe it's improved.

Honestly, i loved my gazelle trial, but dear lord the flight model was soooo shitty i couldnt bring myself to buy it. Damn thing flies like an rc helicopter...
I totally get the RC feel! I found a video that would help make the heli feel more smoother with a heavier feeling. Go into the settings and set all your rudder, pitch and roll curvature to 25.... NOW THE BIGGEST CHANGE to help make it feel a little bit more real is to change your pitch and roll "Y Saturation" to around 30. I put mine at 25 but for some players it maybe different. I would say that it at least make the heli feel more like the Little Bird in ARMA 3.... and for me play a lot of ARMA 3, I was happy with that!

What's wrong with it?
Because is an arcade module borrowed from WT, made by third-party marketing dudes, put in the SIM to make some bucks (e.g. among a couple of things, you have too high thrust weight ratio no matching the real one in a high DA day, to give us a false impression of 😊), bear in mind.. with a single TOW, you could blow up M2A2 which is 10 times armored then the GAZ's Vespa-like Cowling, but this scouter, in the worst case, lose its tail and land easily, looks like a heavy gunship but with no weight.
A SIMMER looks always for the authenticity of such an expensive electronic product.. I wished if they continue with OH-58D flight model.
It isn't flown much cos it has the flight model similar to that of a small suburban garden fence. Shame, the gazelle deserves better.

It has changed since release... The only people I see not hating on the FM are the SME with experience in it...

Players don't talk about it because it's flight model is ridiculous it feels fake basically the aircraft is junk and it's a damn shame they put no effort into it.
There are some IRL Gazelle pilots who said the flight model is right. It feels wrong and "arcadie" because this thing is that light weight and powerfull, therefore extreme responsive. Unlike any other helo in game, which are just hanging under the main rotor with all its heavy weight and feeling slower and more "realistic". Another factor could be the players stick and collective hardware he is using.... I also had a rough time getting familiar with the much more sensitive input

The flight model sucks, hands down the worst in DCs. The controls are insanely sensitive and can't be adjusted to be reasonable. The damage model seems as if you fart too hard the chopper will simply break. Total waste of money and time too bad because it had potential but the makers just didn't want to put the effort in.
What he said & the cyclic doesn't recenter the helicopter when the cyclic comes back to center. You would have to counter steer to bring the helo back to level. Always chasing the steering. Not fun.
It's not forgotten, it just doesn't belong in DCS. It's an acade game masquerading as a simulator. Hopefully Polycop gose and stays out of business.

Ever flown the real gazelle? As i heard gazelle pilots says otherwise(even claims real thing is more agile)...
I love flying the Gazelle regardless what anyone says about it.
The controls are very sensitive in the real aircraft. The Collective requires no more than 1.5" deflection from the center point as can be seen in Episode 3 of "Flying Soldiers" .. link to follow.
I set my hotas sensitivity in DCS to match what I can see in the videos and the Gazelle flies like a dream.
I've heard many say it's like "flying on rails" etc but I've also heard actual, experienced, RL Gazelle Pilots say that the Flight is very close to realistic.
