  • I started experiencing derealisation and depersonalisation 10 years ago and in this weeks video I share how I got on with medication. I think we're all individual with unique journeys and it's so important we follow what feels right for us. I’m not a professional and these are just my own experiences but feel it’s important to share.

Interesting the doc said Sertraline is a lifetime thing. It causes damage if taken over two years - and six months is the recommended duration. I’m also on it & lamotrigine but dpdr didn’t go way

I was in the exact same situation as you... 200mg Sertraline but through research, I figured I wasn't depressed so just stopped immediately. No side effects whatsoever.

Hey thanks for sharing. Do you still have DP/DR? Depression just didn’t align with me I can relate completely. That’s great you had no side effects too. Have you stayed off medication or did you try anything else?

Hey there everyone so for many and for myself I did get that extra motivational kick and help from more dopamine boosting supplements or meds . So things like Wellbutrin at a low dose , caffeine with l theanine , or taking l-tyrosine 1,000mg fasted in the morning one hour before breakfast . Cutting out gluten and processed foods helped . Eating more animal based also helped . A b complex doesn’t hurt either

Sister i take solian and kietyl and it really effects very good but solian for me and my journey with dpdr it has bad side effects on me and as you said im not willing to continue my life with medication and also there is no magic pill because every magic it’s a trick that’s my opinion 🖤

SNRIS ( Effexor) really helped me to deal with DPR. I felt like a robot for sometimes as my emotions were compressed and life felt like a simulation. However, after taking medicating I started to feel like a human again and got more involved in reality.

I have been trying different medications and combinations of medications last year and a half without success. As you can figure out I am in a deeper hole than the one I was before because I have to stop these medicines and face the withdrawals on top of my already severe mental health issues!

Hi Bill thank you for commenting and sharing your experiences. Sorry to hear you’re going through so much. With the medication I was on I reduced things very gradually. I think I was very anxious as to how I would be without it so slow and steady felt a safer way to go. Have you found a benefit from any of the medication you’ve tried or has there not been any improvements from any of them

@@billtheo7476 sorry to hear that. I found the same I didn’t feel any benefits. There may have been some going on inside, but for me I thought I’d rather spend more time in therapy trying to figure things out so slowly came off them and didn’t notice any difference at all. Have you spoken to your doctors about coming off them? I’ve felt the start to this year a little bit of a struggle. Sometimes I’m in a great place feeling really positive and then some moments I’m feeling quite unmotivated but I imagine a lot of us are feeling that way at the moment

I believe at this point - since there's no medication to solely treat dpdr - it doesn't make sense to be on medication. Of course, underlying conditions (anxiety/depression) can be medicated but I personally don’t want to try every drug just because it could possibly make a minor difference.

Hey thanks so much for taking the time to comment and thanks for watching my video. Sounds like we feel similar on this one. I haven’t had medication for several years now as it didn’t feel very helpful for me but of course we’re all different. It’s a shame there isn’t anything specific but hopefully with time that will come 😊

Lamotrigine seems to work well for me. I'm thinking of stopping Aripiprazole so that I'm taking only Lamotrigine and see how that works for me. I've had moments I was only on that while waiting for my other medication or switching.
