I agree. Byss was a genius move. This dude was literally siphoning off Force energy from an entire planet disguised as a luxury paradise. And he had his own hidden fortress there staffed with Dark Side Acolytes. Legends describes all of this in more detail.

I find it interesting that so many worlds that are the strongest in the Dark Side are also lush with life. Byss, Yavin 4, Kashyyyk, and Dagoba, to list a few

I SO WANT this planet to be entered in to official Star Wars canon. The planet reminds me of planets like, Peridea, Tanalorr, and Planet X.
It does exist in canon, it was first mentioned in canon material in 2015, but nothing beyond a cursory mention of its location and that Palpatine thought it was important
@@An_Inconvenience Yeah, that's my point: I wish they'd just asked Lucas if he was okay with the EU version of Byss being made canon. Think of the absolute deviltry that could be done on that planet? Imagine if that became part of The Mandoverse and other Star Wars stories in the future! Basically, the planet has become a nexus for Dark Side/Sith energy; draining its victims in a very similar manner to that of The Drengir and The Nameless/The Great Leveler. I've actually theorized, throughout reading The High Republic, that there may be a Dark Side energy that is connected to Planet X and it manifests itself in the form of The Nameless. We'll find out, when all is said and done.

Byss is 100x's better than Exegol and I love the World Devastators, they are one of my favorite Super Weapons in Star Wars.

You can clearly see The inspiration They took From Byss to make Exegol. I take it as Byss is a Planet Palpatine corrupted and Made his own Experiments. Why Exegol is something that Palpatine inherited from the Sith and Made his experiments there as well.

This describes Hawaii almost perfectly. Darkside energy is strong here. It's full of military bases. There are no natural predators. The temperature is temperate and there are very few natural disasters (the Maui Lahaina fire was caused by local government negligence). It's a playground for the elite.
And the evil rebels destroyed byss, palpatine was trying to save everyone in dark empire from a certain point of view.

Byss always feel very evocative of Shakespeare's quote of looking like the innocent flower yet be the serpent under it. As despite to all appearance's it looks like tropical paradise, when in actual point of fact, it a fools paradise, draining ones souls of life and energy as part of sith fustian bargain, that the settlers are unaware of accepting when they settle there..

R2 didn't program the Galaxy Gun to fire on Byss, he programmed Palpatine's flagship, Eclipse 2, to ram it. The damage triggered a warhead that was fired into Byss.
I'm afraid you're wrong about how Byss was destroyed. Yes, R2 was responsible, but not in the way you mentioned. In Empire's End, the Rebels staged a raid to board the new Star Dreadnought Eclipse II. During the raid, R2 hacked into the astrogation computers and programmed the Eclipse II to fly to Byss. He set the ship on a collision course with the Galaxy Gun. When it arrived, it collided with the Galaxy Gun. While the Eclipse II suffered some damage, the Galaxy Gun was split in two. However, the Galaxy Gun was armed with another of those missiles. I don't recall if they were waiting for Palpatine's order to fire, or the people on the Galaxy Gun, including the designer, decided to take the initiative and fire it themselves. In either case, I believe the target was Onderon. However, when the Eclipse II collided with the Galaxy Gun, the collision and subsequent destruction caused the Galaxy Gun to fire. But when it fired, the part of the Galaxy Gun from which the missiles were shot was aimed at Byss. So the missile destroyed Byss, and the destruction of Byss finished the destruction of the Galaxy Gun, along with destroying the orbiting fleet and the Eclipse II.
This is where he sent the Alderaan survivors to their regret

Lets be honest... this is 40k levels of bad writing that Byss was destroyed using the galaxy gun and the entire system because R2D2 managed to somehow get onboard the station... its lazy and stupid to think that a single droid managed to do all that.
But considering the "new" era of star wars writing... its like its being made by actual children who have no sense of tension, loss, or in general dont like seeing the good guys lose at all if not even slightly. And that even the most simple of droids are somehow able to singlehandedly destroy every single thing. If R2 could do that to the galaxy gun... why the hell didn't he just do that with the deathstar and cause its cores to melt down or set the deathstars laser to fire in reverse...? This is just all massive hogwash garbage writing in my opinion. And it really shows the writers for star wars have basically lost all hope and all desire to make anything good anymore.
