In the mid 90's my life was falling apart due to drugs and mental issues.........I had served in the US Army as a young man............I had thought about joining the FFL, but this was before I had ever been on the internet and due to lack of information I never made a go at it....I turned my life around and joined the USAF Reserves in 2000 and retired in 2017 with a 20 year reserve pension....I am very blessed, but still think and wonder what it would have been like to go in the FFL.....
One smart KIWI in the FFL man, although I'm originally from the SADF then became a KIWI after being in Palmerston North for ten years, you make any KIWI proud! ! ! Well DONE!
There is a man in the NZ Territorials who I serve with,and he's ex-legion.He was a guy by the name of CPL.Trembath.He is probably the fittest guy I have ever heard off.
Trem is a good friend of mine and one hard bastard. He was 2 REP and joined when he was 30 something, that is hard has hell. I joined when I was 22 because I had to finish my military service at home. Trem is one great guy!
I'm Irish and I just have been discharged from the british army over medical grounds. Its all down to what a person wants out of life. There is a saying in the army " I want a good life, not an easy life". I believe in that, its the lifestyle that attracts people not the money. I'm thinking of joining the FFL now, just blag my way about my medical discharge.
the age limit is 40, so if your still young there's time. i'm thinking of joining up next year, just have to get my damn eyes fixed before i submit myself.
I agree....its insane that the UK lets any one in it seems but treats the Ghurkas shamelessly....didnt they only recently receive a war pension after much condemning publicity?
interesting report of foreigner point of view about the FFL I point of you also that all legionaries obtain at the end of their first 5 year old contract the French nationality and become French citizens of the French Republic like all others french citizens
And what do you mean by "besides its france" France is a good country, one of the most developed in the world. I'd much rather live in France than britain.
From what I've read, you have to be in the Legion for 15 years before you're eligible to be an officer anyway, so its a moot point. Be realistic; how quick do you think you're gonna be a general?

wish i would have joined in my early 20's....but my past is enough adventure, but what a notch this would have been

TheMagical Shroom right on
Did you join?
Nice report; a great view of what life in the Legion is like. I wonder how Robert turned out in the end...?
Fair play to you,no one can argue with that there should be more guys like you.
Nice video, thanks alot.
I wish this program had been longer.
I joined the RAF Regiment instead of the FFLegion, and the Legion has nothing but utmost respect for me and my colleagues, as I have of the Legion...
They don't give a fuck about the raf reg lets be real haha
Nice videos
What happens when your contact is up?? Do you get medical benefits??
he almost cries
It is certainly a harsh life. I got a cousin that served 5 years
Yeah, agree with the last comment, absolutely worth a look. French Foreign Legion, come and have a go if you think your hard enough.
Actually that was in the past, nowadays the legion knows what you've done and you'll get in as long as what you may have done was minor
Yeah, Aussies and Kiwis can join the British Army. Lots of Aussies in the SAS and Paras.
The 2REP is the Best!!
@rumboxfilms
but on the other hand they don't really have much to spend it on.
If you're good enough, you can become an officer, wherever you come from.
What kind of visa he obtained to travel to France for long enough to join FFL?
If u get accepted the legion takes care of that.
@grantourismo0109 Very interesting man.
S'true, now you mention it; its not something that comes up often.

WHAT'S THEIR SALARIES? ANYONE KNOW?
1200 Euro per month, 2200 in 2e REP. There are overseas bonuses to 1200 base.
I agree....its insane that the UK lets any one in it seems but treats the Ghurkas shamelessly....didnt they only recently receive a war pension after much condemning publicity?
i only want a visa...
maybe you have to be french to become a commissioned officer, and any nationality can become an NCO officer?

achely no,.. the americans need us.
yes, they let you leave
Only 20% are accepted after Legion test
it is a very small chance tho something like 8%

Why France send soldiers to Africa like USA send soldiers to iraq?
@fixdeluxe1 greeting

i heard of cpl trembath he seems to be funny :)
I went to Timor with him
@MrMarkeZG whats the point of dress unis at all then?? it's to look profesh
They should hire woman... but let them do the ironing lol.
So, only french can be officer or higher rank... that's abit discriminate.
@aseglkj the whole uniform is still pretty lame. They should dress like US marines or something, get some real dress going
oJKBo - you say the whole uniform is still pretty lame. Does it really matter what the uniform looks like if the guy wearing it is an elite soldier?
