In the mid 90's my life was falling apart due to drugs and mental issues.........I had served in the US Army as a young man............I had thought about joining the FFL, but this was before I had ever been on the internet and due to lack of information I never made a go at it....I turned my life around and joined the USAF Reserves in 2000 and retired in 2017 with a 20 year reserve pension....I am very blessed, but still think and wonder what it would have been like to go in the FFL.....

Of course, 31k of 36k Legion dead came from conflagration of WWI. I imagine a large part of remaining 5,000 died in WWII. (These were your grandpappy's Germans!) 1 in 10 Legionaires who make it in "die in combat or in training." That has to be total bullshit. Do the math. Where have the Legion had to fight lately with such a casualty rate? Former French Equatorial Africa? Mali or Niger? Ivory Coast? I wonder if the Legion gave him that figure. Even if half that number was in training, I'd be embarrassed as Legion officers and NCOs to claim one man in 20 DIES in training. If true, that is a disgrace to France and to professionalism; therefore, I don't believe it. They ought to get these things right.
