    Thanks for the comparison. I do not yet have an XTool, but I am considering. I expected an aquarium pump of the same l/min output would work well. You did good to find what looks like the same model, at least made by the same factory.

And as Chad Customs Creations said, its a great tool to have some variable with the volumen that is being sucked out. Great content brother.

      Air assist is also very useful for keeping your laser lens clean. Without the air assist, the smoke can go right up and settle on the lens and damage it when it gets heated by the laser.

    Apparently our Xtool air assist was defective right out of the box. It made noise and pumped a hint of air and since we were brand new to the laser world,we thought that it was running normal. After watching your video we purchased the new air assist that you suggested and WOW is an understatement!

    Great video.
    I just finished my review on the Creality Falcon2 laser, and that comes with... Exactly the same air assist unit.
    Fun fact, The Creality version has a connector that plugs right into the laser engraver and has the pressure setting dial at the side of the laser.
    As for engraving. It is better to use the air assist also when engraving, but at very low power. When using the air assist, the smoke generated by the laser can't reach the laser lens, therefore you won't have to clean the lens that often.

    • @asherdiy

    I have an xTool air assist, and it is crap. I got it in November, and it stops working when the unit gets hot. I am on here now looking to get a pump to replace the one I got with my xTool air assist. I will be purchasing this one, as I have things to do and I have waited 3 weeks for xtool to respond regarding the crap pump I received with the air assist I purchased from them. Thanks for the video! You saved me some hunting around to identify which pump to get.

    the EcoAir Commercial 1 - is even cheaper and it comes with a 6 valve manifold so you can open several of the valves for when you want decreased flow. I measured the air output at the nozzle with a vane anemometer and got almost identical results to the Xtool pump.

  • @ChadsCustomCreations
    @ChadsCustomCreations Před rokem +5

    Wow great find! Definitely a cost savings there and the variable dial is nice for when engraving if it can run low enough because engraving with a tiny bit of air will keep the lens clean.

    Doubt the air assistnpumps are any better quality, after all, aquarium pumps are designed to run constantly for years. My aquarium pump in my aquarium cost about $15 and has been running 24/7 for 8 years now 😊.

  • @ChozoSR388
    @ChozoSR388 Před rokem +1

    That metal piece that came with the aquarium pump is a distribution manifold that allows you to aerate multiple areas of your aquarium with just the one pump. Pretty nice that they include that, actually; some companies, you just get the pump itself, no hardware to speak of.

    The sad part is xtool will come out with a control valve that costs a huge amount more, but to be able to engrave acrylic, you need to be able to turn your air flow down. The current solution for me is vice grips to pinch the line.

    I was just looking for a comparison. I have everything i need for air assist for Longer Ray5 10W except pump itself. And i hate overpaying.
    Would it be worth to get more powerful aquarium pump tho? More than 30L/min

  • @PhilippeLhoste
    @PhilippeLhoste Před rokem

    Well, this is nice to know, except if you buy the pump and tubing, but don't have the nose adaptation (I don't know if you can buy it separately, and for my brand of laser, you can't), it is a bit useless, no?

  • @streaky81
    @streaky81 Před rokem +1

    For the same money Xtool bill for their air assist you can buy a small air compressor and get higher (and vary the) air pressure out the nozzle. Seems like a better alternative if you're willing to spend the money anyway because it'lll do the job better and be useful for other things. Add a solenoid valve for next to nothing and you've one-upped the Xtool air assist.

    • @asherdiy

    I got an aquarium pump rated at roughly twice the air output of a standard air assist pump. Then I did a cutting material test in lightburn, no air, 30lpm (standard air) and 60lpm (aquarium pump). There was a noticeable difference in each test. The 60lpm aquarium pump did the best, cutting several squares more than the standard pump

    I dont think the Polyurethane tubing you linked to is a good match for this purpose.
    I got one from Creality - its almost identical and has the volume control - but the tubing I think may be Silicon - it fell and crossed paths once by accident with the laser - and didnt burn. That one you linked to could be a fire hazard?
