    I am trying the same, did very big test grid as well, but the results what i am getting is either brown colour engraved or dipper but not the dark black colour as you are able to achieve on surface of the ply, am I doing anything wrong, or i have selected wrong material, i have selected 7mm plywood.

    Hi, I have been watching your videos on Lightburn. Great content. One suggestion; when you are showing a feature in Lightburn, I have a hard time finding the pointer. I was wondering if it is possible to increase the cursor (arrow) larger. I know it is possible to make it larger on Windows. Not sure if it can be made larger in Mac.

    Thank you so much for this! I am new to the laser world, and trying to decide on which one I actually need. I was impressed by the 10W detailing and really didn't expect it to look so good. Since my main need at the moment is cutting 5mm EVA foam faster and more accurate than I can with my exacto, I am looking more at the 20W. I don't NEED the 40, but would love to eventually have a 20 and 10 for expanding my projects later down the road. Very helpful video and information, thanks so much!

    We cut Makerstock at work, so I’ve seen hundreds of panels personally and we’ve cut in the low thousands over the last 4 years. Here’s what I’ve seen, and their discounts: Surface finish is usually pretty good. There’s sawdust on the surface out of the package, so they are doing something to smooth it out before shipping The sizes are SPOT ON. The edges are smooth and always fit perfectly on our laser Some bad things, and why I’m watching videos like this: Warping can be BAD. Our extraction works as a vacuum table, so most can be held down but we’re talking .5-1” across a 20x30 panel. Climate is Southern California for reference, humidity between 60-80 at least in the summer. Knots and inclusions are ruining up to 20% of a panel about 15% of the time. This can be solved with another pass, but sometimes requires 3+ passes. The thickness varies WILDLY. We have had 2.8mm all the way up to 3.2mm between shipments. Building on the last bit, they definitely have more than 1 source since the smoke deposition will change between orders. Sometimes it’s pretty fine, sometimes it gunks up the extraction vent very quickly. We recently tried out a local lumber yard for wood and while it is cheaper, we had just as many inclusions and the surface finish was worse. I dont have a lot to compare to yet, but if you reply to this comment in a while, I’ll update :)

    forget sealing the enclosure, u actually dont want to do that. you NEED for air to get into it, otherwise your exhaust system doesn't do anything. Instead you want to expand your exhaust system. bigger fan, then bigger hose, going from 3" to 4" makes a big difference from 3 to 6" is even better. plus bigger fans means lower noise level.

    The best way to watch this video is to watch it all the way through to the end Then Go back and make an outline with pen and paper, then retype my notes. This provides me with a three-step approach to the video. I taped the video for review purposes and then watched the individual segments. As I watched the segments I set up a picture in Lightburn and did the steps with the video. This is one of the best videos I have seen and used to engrave photos usingLIghtburn.

    Great video. I have been using Lightburn for photo engraving for a couple of years now and I too started with the research and guess method. I learned a couple of new things from your video. Thank you. Two questions, did you do any image adjustments, in Lightburn, to the photo? Do you find that by following your steps, you don't have to do image adjustments?

    • @asherdiy
      @asherdiy Před 21 dnem

      If I remember correctly, I don't think I did any "image adjustments" (put in quotes because someone else who reads this might not know that is the name of a specific menu in Lightburn) for the husky project in this video. However, I do sometimes use image adjustments now. What I try to do is find a combination of image adjustments that works well for a given material. It doesn't work every time because every photo is a little different, but it can be a really good start point. For example, I have a preset of image adjustments for engraving photos on Slate that works almost every time.

    It’s interesting that you found so many issues with the Home Depot plywoods. I have cut thousands of these panels and only had a couple with defects, veneer wrinkles. Yes some are warped but warping can happen to the best woods. Temperature, shipping, storage all impact this issue. Great information about the options.

    • @asherdiy
      @asherdiy Před 21 dnem

      That's super interesting - What type of the plywood are you buying from them? I work with mostly their Walnut and Maple veneers (though that wasn't covered in this videos experiment) and I'm wondering if it varies by the type of veneer used on the wood. Just a thought.

    so this is my first attempt at using lightburn and i have about 2 days worth of experience with lasers. i have the xtool d1pro 2.0 10w. as i watched this video i did not notice where you told LB what material or the thickness of it. is that info not needed in LB?

    • @asherdiy
      @asherdiy Před 29 dny

      When it comes to cutting through material, the "depth" of the cut that you need for a material of a given thickness, is set using the power and speed settings in Lightburn. If you want to learn more about how that works, I have another video on my channel that does a crash course on material tests, which is how you get the power and speed settings you need for your machine. I hope that doesn't sound too complicated, if you watch that crash course on material tests I think this will make more sense. Good luck!
