Aquarium air pump for air assist laser engraving - is it better than vacuum cleaner?

  • Ortur Aufero 2 with LF laser module arrives with air assist nozzle. In the review video I could test it only with vacuum cleaner, but several comments suggested me to test it with aquarium air compressor. In this video I am testing ACO-318 45W air compressor from Banggood. The testing will cover laser engraving and cutting.

    I just set my air pump up to run whenever the laser is active by operating a relay off the laser enable pin. That way, whenever the laser is enabled, a relay turns on the outlet the air pump is plugged into. No need for any switch since the outlet is only hot when the laser is in use and is off when the laser isn't in use. Having the air pump on such an automatic circuit makes it more convenient.

    The air pump that I have came with a metal 6 port air splitter, each port with a valve. The valve for air assist nozzle is always open. I open a second valve for engraving so some air bypasses the laser. It makes cleaner engraving and keeps the laser lens clean. For cutting I close all valves but the air assist so I get maximum air flow to the laser.

    I just ordered this compressor and it should be here next week - I'll compare it to my Sculpfun S9 air pump and see if they perform the same or not. The air assist is the very first add-on I purchased when I got my S9. You can also cut faster and deeper when having air-assist turned on. The only time I don't use air-assist is when engraving. Thanks for your videos!

    Thanks for the tutorial. It seems to be proven that, for engraving, it is not necessary Air Assistant, only for cutting.

    The engraving with air assist while it had more smoke staining the lines were darker and more consistant. Porbably blowing the smoke out of the way that interferes with the beam.
    PErhaps a slower flow when engraving would work well.

    This model the 318 is actually 60l per minute. Several sites wrongly state it as 70. That would be the next model the 328. Also the 318 is rated at 32 watts the 328 is 45. Bangwood must have messed it up.

    I have been using an air brush compressor but it gets hot and I don’t think it’s mental for continuous use. The fish tank thing is made for continuous use, that could be why there’s no switch. I ordered one supposedly quiet. Yours is loud. Try dampening with a rubber Matt. Yes, you want to use air assist on cuts. Sometimes not on engraving depending on how deep you want to engrave.

    I ordered pump like this one some time ago. Output is the same as for air assist for my laser, so why pay 3x more?

    Ortur LM3 suggests 40L/min pump so yours is 70L/min probably a bit too strong, but you did decrease pressure with smaller tube

    Can you add a relay for the air pump and make it auto start only when cutting?
    Genuine question.

    • @MyTechFun
      @MyTechFun  Před 2 lety +1

      Yes, it can be added, however, I wouldn't recommend it for beginners, they shouldn't experimenting with AC power. For experienced users, sure. Signal for turning on/off the relay can be in g-code or using it from the laser wire.

    Se agradece la intención de compartir la prueba, pero una bomba de aire de pecera no serviría para tal propósito, porque no tiene la fuerza de succión suficiente. Algo casero podría ser un compresor de aerografía o en su defecto y mas económico un compresor común de pintura. se prende fuera de la casa y ese si va a succionar todo el humo generado por el laser. Lo único malo sería el ruido , que queda perfecto, yo uso uno así por el momento.

      That adaptor comes with Aufero 2 laser, but only with LF (long focus) module.

    ACO-318: The plug is American with an adapter for Europe. The adapter does not meet European standards and is very dangerous. It is noisy (my phone measures over 60db). As it lacks double insulation by our standards it should have a grounding wire.

    Hello sorry for this stupid question....im new to this laser thing....just want to ask about the air assist...is it blowing air or sucking air? Thanks..

      Blowing, you can see it blowing in the water at 4:28 time stamp. czcams.com/video/-Vd3VY4L-wA/video.html

    Hello, good video. I ordered a A10pro 10w real output laser. I want to order a ACO-308 45L/min aquarium compressor. Could you please name the black small flexible hose do you use ? Brand, diameter, material, etc ? Thanks

      I got it with Aufero Laser 2 czcams.com/video/y_b4poZoovo/video.html Approx. 8mm dia. Very flexible, probably silicone.

    what would happen if instead of just air flow, we use vacuum to suck out the smoke?

    • @MyTechFun
      @MyTechFun  Před rokem +1

      Hm, probably we could use it with engraving too. But most of the pumps don't like sucking of the dust, you have to use only a vacuum cleaner.

    Can you test with/without air assist at lower power and see how many passes it takes for each to cut through?

    • @MyTechFun
      @MyTechFun  Před 2 lety +1

      I didn't noticed any difference, same passes in one quick test I did. AA just helps to have cleaning cut (and prevent flame)

    Szia! Nekem az lenne a kérdésem, hogy hogyan tudom a levegő pumpát halkítani? Nekem is olyan van, mint amit te is telepítettél AirAssistként, de valahogy le kell halkítsam. Van valami ötleted erre? Előre is köszönöm!

    • @MyTechFun
      @MyTechFun  Před 2 lety +1

      Először is jól kell rögzíteni, hogy ne rezegjen az asztalon. Más leletőséget nem nagyon tudok, belső zajt nem tudjuk elkerülni. A levegő áramlása meg szintén adott, nem tudunk "kipufogót" rögzíteni a végére. Talán ha az egészet egy zárt térbe burkolod (enclosure), ami amúgy is javasolt a lézer gravírozókkal, rendszeres használat esetén.

  • @mohammeddavidzhang-singh5846

    How about sucking instead of blowing for engraving? Have you tried the "right" side of the vacuum cleaner?

    • @MyTechFun
      @MyTechFun  Před rokem +1

      Hm, not yet. Maybe with vacuum cleaner, but I wouldn't recommend this with any other compressor or air pump.

      @@MyTechFun I think about a toroid shaped ring around the beam with some holes to get an upwards directed airflow.

    Why does the manufacturer NEJE recommend working with a pressure of 0.6-1.5Mpa?

    • @MyTechFun
      @MyTechFun  Před rokem +1

      Actually the flow rate at nozzle is more important. But since the pump has to push the air through the pipe, it needs some pressure due the friction

    Engraving with AA distribute sthe smoke on you piece
    better to use AA for cutting only
    if you put a protective tape on the workpiece you can use AA. this also goes with CO2
