- The original Boss RC-505 is seen by many as the pinnacle of loopstations, with countless musicians using it as a gateway to success during the 15+ years it's been available. Surely time for an update then?
Here's the RC-505 MKII then, with expanded IO, improved audio quality, increased FX (4 input, 4 track), more algorithms, increased record time - 13hrs over 3, bounce feature, Mark back and undo, more rhythms, way deep button and controller assignments.
We've multi-sampled a couple of the Drum Kits and made them available as Decent Sampler presets on our Patreon Page:
/ sonicstate
The RC-505 MKII really does build on the original while keeping the essential functions the same - that is five stereo tracks of loopers, with tempo detection, time stretch and lots of control.
Editor Nick is a first time RC user and takes us through the essential functions, and gives his verdict.
The RC-505 MKII is available now (in limited quantities) priced at £499/$599 street price.

Good start
After all these years we finally got Nick to sing.... And then he has a cold. 😃 Hope you feel better soon
Call me old school but I still prefer Sonic Labs to any other gear reviews. 10,000 thanks Nick!!
Timeless school.
💯🎯💯🎯💯🎯☮️☯️☯️🎶🎶🎶
Nick is coool!
About timestretch, you can also go into each of the 5 tracks and change Speed mode (something like that) to Pitch, then the track's pitch follows the time changes (if you speed up, the pitch gets higher, if you slow down, it gets lower). That maintains the sound quality without having that choppy aspect to it
Hello PSn
That's good to know, cheers! :)
Hello KBA 👋
The god of the rc505 has spoken
Hello taeyu
I love how Blawan uses the RC looper with his modular setup for capturing loops with human modulation. Incredible tool for live
Most underrated product on the market. One reason is it’s toy like look.
Yeah... it's absolutely my most important piece of gear, but it is built like an OP-1 lol
Mate you are a wonder. I have owned this RC505 II for 2 months and it is a total total bastard to understand. Thanks for your secret sauce man.
same here.....his review opens up a lot for me 2 😆
Wow, a 505 mkII review where we ACTUALLY GET TO HEAR THE 505 … scrape my jaw up off the floor. Nick good as always … Thanks Nick!
Fascinating machine, great demo! Thanks a lot!
(:
Great demo. Thanks. I’ll need to watch it again. 😁
whoa... looks like we're back to school again. that was awesome. you're awesome.
Great music too! Thanks for showing the cool features.
That was great review nick !! 🤟🏻🤟🏻
Nice review Nick….and nice music too….thanks! ❤️
the original 505 was the most fun bit of kit I have ever bought
SonicState still the best for product reviews. Great easy explanation Nick. Er... you made me buy one!
the ‘that’s clearly rubbish’ part cracked me up 😂 thanks for the demo! I’d been eyeing the original one and that has changed now for this
Good review as usual. Very tempting at that price for live jams to add non-synths and vocals over sequencers. I bought a basic one-track looper pedal and although fun it doesn't sync so it's not much use.
I am talking to my Sales Engineer at Sweetwater this week on getting this. Thank you for your video it really answered allot of questions. I might sound like I know what I am talking about when I speak with Ryan.
Having tried the various loopers over the years, most of them I never warmed to, However, BOSS recently upped their game in a HUGE way. Sound quality is immediately apparent, as are the very good drum loops. So I have to try this one. I owned the RC10R (need to replace it) and the RC-5, both are very good . These loopers are IMO, in a different league than other companie's.
Fabulous review
Nice review! Shocked they wouldn't go for a redesign! LCD Screen, modernized look and feel.
Nick Batt building an arrangement that sounds not unlike some choice, early Black Moth Super Rainbow, and the vocoder helps with that - I dig it, brothe! 🤠😉
Nick’s enjoyment of new kit is good vibes, too.
Hey Nick, I have on OG 505 but I’m actually interested in the plucky bass sounds at about 19:45. Is that on the Polybrute and can I achieve the same thing on an OG Minibrute. I’ve been trying to get this right for a while now
And if I´m perfectly honest: Nick Batt makes the best reviews ever! ...together with Gaz Williams they are a dream team. Thank you!
Can you share a list of the effects? I can't seem to find them anywhere. Thanks
@sonicstate on the mk1, in the settings you can change the delete to be double tapping the stop button instead of holding it. I'm sure that's a setting in this one too.
Great review! Thanks!
(I just paid for my Soma Cosmos today, or else I'd have this in preorder)
Thanks and great Video. How the heck do you add effects on the built in rhythm tracks????
Trying to figure out if I want this model or the 600 one. Don’t need floor features but am feeling like I want a 700 which has all of both
Are all fx algorhitms new? Are they taken from another box like the boss fx pedals or roland zen core ect?
Impressive box of tricks. I have a rc5 pedal and the 32 bit processing is crystal clear, it can turn to mush if thrashed doom overdubs are applied but staccato playing is rewarded. Not much change from 8 or 900 I fear.
With the rhythm metronome, how do you get the metronome to play?
When i press 'Start/Stop' it shows it's playing but no sound from the metronome comes out.
Output level is up but nothing still.
What do?
Did they fix the problem that the FILTER FX had way too low volume?
Its a huge problem with the mkI becaus when turning off the filter to switch to another effect, then the audience get huge a volumous shock when the volume goes crazy up from extreme low!
So does the mkII FILTER FX have a volume more normal in libne with other effects? OR did they implement a FX volume setting within the filter fx?
AND did they add a possiblity to chance DIRECTION of the filter? Like up or down?
When the Mk3 is released I hope they add a couple of drum pads to allow us tap our own drum beats into the RC505 using the internal drum sound library .
I’m having a hard time getting the 505 to work with my daw, a video on how you integrate it into your system would be awesome
This made me smile so much. 😁😁😁😁
Hi, Can you route specific inputs to specific outputs? (for example route the mic to only go out one set of stereo outputs?) (or have instrument 2 only go out sub 1 but not out sub 2..)
According to the user manuals, which are already available on Roland’s site, it seems this should be possible.
Hola amigo me gustaría Hacerte una pregunta.
El volumen del ritmo de la pedalera (rhythm) Puede ir independiente al volumen de los track,¿? Yo no encuentro la manera.
Un abrazo y gracias¡¡
Great review... only 1 thing I didn´t quite get. Nick mentions the possibilty to use an external sequencer drummachine which you had to sacrifice one track/channel for: Does it tempo sync to the external drummachine then? I would love to see that in action or at least if anyone could explain what Nick means, it would be most appreciated!!! Cheers :D
i have the mk1 rc-505 - great looper i like the addition of the bounce down feature in the mk2 .. nice one.
great video.
Is the Arturia Matrixbrute yours Nick? I know u love it...just wondering. Epic la-la-la btw :p
Great video, I was interested in getting one but seeing that you can transfer files to and from it via usb really has me sold. So I take it you can have a lot of projects stored with all that recording time? Not just whatever you’re currently working on?
I'm pretty sure the mk1 could do that too
Has Roland gotten Marc Rebillet one of these yet? That dude is the gold standard for looping.
Yeah, he showed that he had gotten one in an Instagram story. He is the Loop King! 🤘
@@taubennedjensen *Loop Daddy
505 was extremely influential n my musical journey. Absolutely amazing. Previous model does not save undo redo loops, seems like the bookmark could change that
Is there a way to duplicate or copy an entire memory and paste into a new empty memory? And not just channels of loops in the same memory?
You’re great! Thanks for that.
Wait hold up... So if you want to sum the tracks (bounce) you have to menu dive to turn it on, bounce the tracks, and then go back in a remember to turn it off before you do anything else? That doesn't really seem conducive to live performing. Am I missing something?
Does this device have harmony function? Or some guitar effect?
Nick, you have the voice of an angel.
if you mean an angel with a cold and no pitch or tone, then you may be right :-)
Would be awesome if Boss was giving a real release date. In Europe it is not out and retailers say they have not definite shipping date from Boss either. They think it should be end of December. So no shipping this year : (
How to monitor rc505mk2 in ableton?
I'd like to hear the input in my daw only . I hear both rc505 n the signal that it sends to ableton. I'd like to hear only the signal sent to the daw.
Is there anyway to 'cue' the individual tracks via headphones or something. Say you record some vocals, and it sounds out of key, and you don't want to send it to final output/mix?
When you export wav files over USB does it seperate overdubs on each track into individual files or is it just one file per track. Great demo by the way.
Just one per track
@@sonicstate Thanks
@@sonicstate seems a bit of a missed opportunity.
I just got this device and am really frustrated because anytime I have something recorded on track 1, have that playing, and then record something on track 2, everything on track 1 is also recorded on track 2, even though I have bounce SW off and all five tracks set to not bounce. It’s driving me mad. How do I prevent other tracks from being recorded onto a new track I am recording to? Thank you for any help.
Is it now possible to have specific effects to specific tracks?
Like 1 set of effects Reverb & delay to go to channel 1 & 3 and have Filter & Reverb to go to channel 4?
Yes, that.
The RC-505 is one of the best musical devices ... ever. SOOOO much fun. I think almost every musician should have one.
The only real downside is the tendency to get stuck in short loops, since that's basically what it's built for. It's really hard to get much musical progression with this type of device, so it can feel pretty limiting for those looking to make longer compositions. But then, if the user often bumps their head on that, it probably means they've grown enough as a musician that they should get some sort of DAW.
Aside from some early years awkwardly struggling with trackers, looping was the thing which really got me started with music. I've since moved on to use an Akai Force as the center of my studio, but a big part of why I like it is because it has a workflow very similar to a looper. But instead of 5 loop slots, it has an entire 8x8 grid, scrollable, so I don't have to bump my head on short loops any more.
The RC-505 is good even for pros though, especially when you don't know what to make and want to come up with some new ideas. It's a great way to go from a blank mind to a detailed song sketch in practically no time at all, or even to just meditate with sound during a lunch break. The thing is freaking fantastic.
Have you looked at the Deluge? The RC-505 does look like a lot of fun.
@@aquaticborealis4877 Yeah, I almost got a Deluge. It's one of very few hardware devices which have a clips+scenes+arranger workflow. However, the pads aren't pressure-sensitive, it's designed to only have a few scenes per song, and it desperately needs a screen... so I went for a Force instead. Also, it's nice that the Force runs Linux so I can add my own programs and stuff to it.
But I've been keeping an eye on the Deluge for several years because it has so much potential. It's good gear.
Never owned a looper. Probably cause I’m more into making songs than doing short loops like you say. But with all that sample time what’s stopping you?
I’m tempted by the immediacy and fun factor.
@@jm6734 People can and do make complete songs with a RC-505. It's just difficult, because it's not really built for that. So doing it takes more skill and more planning than you would need with, say, Ableton.
As for why it's more difficult, a big part is that there are only 5 loop slots. It's like having only one of what other devices would call a "scene" or "pattern", with 5 tracks. The mk2 upgrades that by allowing each loop slot to have 2 or 3 stacked layers, which should help a lot with song production, but it's still, at best, pretty limiting... and requires pretty clever planning to make it work.
Another part of what makes it difficult compared to other devices is that it's entirely audio-based so you have to perform each part real-time. This raises the skill required to produce good results, since the user must be able to actually play.
However, if you remove the goal of making complete songs, this type of looper becomes incredibly fun, easy, and intuitive. It's also a great way to practice and develop performance skills. Basically nothing else can be as quick or easy, since it all happens in real time. It's great at helping the user get into a state of flow, just zenning out and jamming.
The only frustrating part is the low ceiling. Try to take a jam to the next level, and you'll probably bump your head on the device's limitations. A lot of workarounds are required to go beyond a one-pattern loop.
So the usual way people do it is to set up a 4-chord loop and play or improvise the melody live on top of that loop, while maybe muting / unmuting tracks to provide a sense of movement. Or they'll build up a pattern, do a break, then delete most of it and start a new pattern, over and over.
It's a good start, and a ton of fun, but it's not the right tool if you want to make songs which are bigger, more complex, and less improvised.
Meanwhile, something like an Akai Force or Ableton Push can be almost as quick to use, and has a much much higher ceiling. So once I got tired of single-pattern loops, I upgraded to a Force. It has opened up a lot of room to grow. I'm now at the point where my quick sketches are usually like 5-10 patterns long and 6-8 tracks wide, and I'm barely scratching the surface of what I can do with it.
But there's still nothing quite like zoning out with a looper and meditating for an hour with simple, sloppy, improvised songs. Instead of calling it a "Boss looper", they should call it a "Bliss looper".
@@ToyKeeper Thank you so much for sharing your experiences. These are exactly the things I’m contemplating atm. On one side I’d like something hands-on to capture ideas (like many I just use my phone). This looper looks perfect for this and way more that could easily inspire songs/pieces along. But on the other hand I want something that I can actually produce actual tracks and easily export these as stems into Ableton, not just jam.
So why not just use Ableton? It’s got it all really. Well, the thing is I find myself reluctant to switch on the computer when inspiration strikes. There’s definitely a threshold from composing on guitar/synth to open up the DAW. I believe many feel this way. So I’ve been scoping out for an immediate device like a good quality field recorder or sampler, but haven’t decided yet. I don’t want an Akai. But I think I’ll get the new Roland SP-404mk2. It looks nice and fast for any genre really. And I like that it’s effects are experimental. Don’t know about this BOSS looper since it’s Roland's guitar division.. I just need to make sure the software on the SP-404 is smooth for exporting stems.
I’ve been thinking about these things for a while and I can’t believe why Ableton are so afraid to cannibalise their precious software. Can’t they see all the people NOT wanting computers on stage.. And all the musicians who simply want to sample/record without PCs. Why don’t they make a nice (mid-priced) portable, stand-alone device that integrates with the Live and holds a few effects. It’s must be executives that never were musicians and simply don’t get it. DAWs are not much fun to use for the initial stage of creation. That says a lot about why this desktop looper is so popular. At least I think so.
Thank You very much for your video!
Could You please answer the question.
In User Manual documentation in section Getting Ready on the page no 5 we can find: [FX] buttons. These buttons select whether to apply effects (input FX/track FX) for each track or not (effects are applied when the buttons are lit, and not applied when unlit).
Also there is in section Creating a Loop Phrase (subsection Recording with Input FX) the next text: 1. Press the [FX] button for each track to turn its effects (input FX/track FX) on/off.
It’s true, using [FX] buttons we can switch ON or OFF ‘track FX’ effects for tracks. But in my case [FX] buttons are not related with applying ‘input FX’ effects for the tracks. In both cases, when [FX] button is lit, or unlit, ‘input FX’ effect is applied for track. Is it really possible use [FX] buttons for switching ON or OFF ‘input FX’ effects for tracks?
Thank You!
I have the RC-505 MK1, it does feel a bit toy like at times, in terms of the fx and the slightly grainy nature of the loop quality. I love that I can set loop lengths, time signatures, count in times, sync to MIDI etc. All great features that old school loopers were missing (hence making them hard to incorporate in a live band context). I am liking all these new features, especially the multiple ins outs and routing potential. It's just a lot of money to splurge on an upgrade. I don't suppose Boss fancy doing an upgrade option where we can trade in our Mk1s? lol
Another vote for the 'trade-in' option. Great idea.
agree & in the end , what's not to like about the MK 1 . ? just get on with it & make good music.
@@PeterGarofalo routing to multiple outs is an absolute GAME CHANGER for anyone using the rc505 as their main production tool. That enough would have have had me sold but there's at least a 100 little things that I wish the mk1 has that the mk2 does have. And you can even use it as a drum kit on your midi controller? That's insane.
How did you attach your midi keyboard to your looper? I’ve attached my midi cable from my akai MPK 261 to the Boss 505 and it’s not working and I don’t know why. Audio interface is an Apollo x4 and we’re using logic as our DAW. If you have any insight that would be much appreciated. Thanks so much.
Can you tap the tempo to speed up the loops slightly for live adjustments when matching to other musicians?
Yes
The stack system is very smart, If it just had also MIDI looping...
It's a shame Roland did not make the Mk2 in matt black....
You can retro fit a larger memory card with a standard Philips screw driver.
Nicks never had an arse in his hand?
Until now.
Go Nick!
Grazie
is it possible to separate input fx to mic and instrument tracks? for example if i put delay on mic input and i dont want delay on the instrument input. is this possible? thank
Yes
Great review as always, I need to ask you all, is t there a need for a looper with BOTH foot and hand control! I mean why not make a foot pedal option for this unit or a Bluetooth option for the RC-600 so you can easily mix you level with an iPad. I get tired of bending down using my RC-300. Thoughts?
I agree. You can buy a standalone midi swither and connect it to the boss rc505. But at least with the mk 1 it's quite menu divey
I live the functions an form factor of the mKII, but I do mostly guitar based looping, so I’ll have to go after the arc-600, which apparently is back ordered until feb! Ugh
Are you going to do a video for the Boss RC 600?
Considering the price of this thing, i think its *much* better to get a Maschine MK3. Then you are not limited to recording just 5 loops, and you can customize its functionality with your favorite plugin (or hardware) effects and instruments. This combined with the nice user interface and workflow makes me think this is better (for my personal needs) than probably ANY other music production tool that i am aware of. I got this just a couple of days ago; and for the first time in my life, i actually feel CONTENT with the gear i have..! This is not to say that i will never buy another hardware synth, but right now, i actually feel peace in my heart. Sweet relief :P
Can you cut loop time?
It's definitly a big improvement over the first version. Would really benefit from being able to remove the sd card. Apart from the obvious extra storage benefits, would make getting the audio from the looper onto the computer much easier than USB.
True, especially if you don't have a laptop and need to unplug your 505 and bring it to you computer. I'm still gonna buy this thing lol
@@johnthebigtree wasn't trying to put anyone off. I have the first version and it's incredibly useful and musical, and this new one is even better. It's a great investment.
This is one of, if not the only review I've seen of the 505 which incorporates synthesizers instead of just beat-boxing or guitars. It there are others, please let me know.
I think it’s worth noting that “Psn” commenter (and KBA commenter under them) were 2 of the 12 prototype testers of the product 🔥🔥🔥🔥
You are awesome ✌🏼
if you have a stero splitter connector you can use multiple insturments on one.
Is the bounce function post fader or pre fader?
Glad Roland listened to its audience and fixed some much needed issues with the mk1. I still think the Deluge is the ultimate looper (after some head scratching while learning the device) mainly because once you record a loop on the 505, there isn’t much you can do with it. Would love to see a preview of all the new fx.
This guy is the industry standard😂
My question is how did you get it
Where can I buy it?
Everyone else excited about the SP-404 but THIS is what gives me a chub.
Part of that of course is b/c my last purchase was a Circuit Rhythm tho ;)
What confuses me however is why the original is only $85 less... ROLAND
The 4 way loop station has been responsible for the Livelooper youtube craze over the last 10 years only to be slowly replaced by Abalten live and pad machines like the Novation Rythem. I want to do live looping and definitely gona want this new one as Abulten dont work for Me, I cant get VSTs to work right.
RC-505 MK I was lacking an Auto-Record when the signal comes in. Boss’ old RC-30 had an Auto-Record. It was sooo handy and efficient- when you can just know that the recording starts right and you can even play on a synth with TWO HANDS without pressing “Record”. I really hope Auto-Record will be back in MK II!!!
Thank you for this video!
Yes, there is an Auto record setting with sensitivity - that appears to be set globally
@@sonicstate Wonderful news! Whoohoo! 🥳Thank you for your videos throughout the years.
Is it possible to power it via a powerbank with 9v supply?? I know that people did it with the mk1 , using a 5 to 9v usb converter. I want to use it outside.
I'd love a response on this. I did it on the RC 202 and it works great with a power bank.
Somebody had any experience on the 505 mkii??
You mentioned driving the MIDI clock from a drummer - I know of someone who does exactly this. They have a mic on the drummer's kick drum, which feeds the audio in of his MODX. The MODX tracks this and sets its tempo to that kick drum. The MIDI clock, derived from the MODX's tempo, then feeds everything else, including the RC-505.
The original RC-505 did have some audio glitching problems when it was performing time stretching while slaved an external MIDI clock and attempting to derive its tempo from that clock. I'm curious to see if the MKII has fixed this problem.
@Aaron Foltz Yeah, I'm curious about this too. Does it mean the kick drum has to always play a 4/4 kick pattern in order to set the tempo?
It does depend on a 4/4 rhythm. This is a Yamaha video that shows it in use: czcams.com/video/IRlgglsj7i0/video.html
Can you only have two synths to inputs? It would be great to be able to have access to all 5 tracks with 5 synths but seems like only two are possible.
You can make each input mono and have four I guess, but you cant record to more than one track at a time anyhow
Just use a cheap mixer
Did you watch the SBX Kickback battle at all?
Its "ok" but us fans had really wanted to see
- Many more tracks than still just 99 tracks. At least 999!
- More channels than still just 5 channels. At least 8 or 10!
Ah, Polybrute and Korg NTS; a classic pairing. Each really complements the other's shortcomings.
Their size?
I had been pondering over the mk1 for a while, so when news of the Mk2 came along I pre-ordered and paid my money. Sadly, that was in November, was told it would be December delivery, then Jan, then feb, now it’s the end of March. I wish that manufacturers would have the products in store and ready to ship when they tease you, I know there have been a lot of times that I would have made an impulse purchase on the back of a CZcams demo, but then the item has been a pre order so I’ve not bothered about it, and then subsequent videos convinced me that I didn’t really need it. I’m at the point where Boss/Roland are about to lose a sale.
My question is: should I get this or an ableton looper for a dance music live set?
Ableton will give you endless possibilities
The 505 will be limiting in comparison, but possibly more fun
Since you're doing dance music, I'd probably suggest ableton, as long as the midi controller is fun to use. You want to feel the music and have fun while you perform. For me, the 505 mk1 is the most fun I've ever had with a piece of gear.
Good luck
Delightful video! You sing like a Jiggly Puff!
The functionality sounds cool and it does some cool stuff.
I'm not usually the one that cares about this kind of stuff. The design is rather ugly, it looks like something the Fisher Price company produced.
does the mk2 still only record quantised and is not capable of recording unquantised (following the own rhythmic flow), or has this bug been fixed by a software update meanwhile?
It has a 'free' mode when recording....if that's what you are asking?
so no aux input?
Shawn the sheep farmer gets a looper - nice job.
Is there an audio quantize feature of some sorts? It would be great if it could automatically quantize the timing of recorded clips like Ableton Live can, preferably with less than full strength like 75% strength, and to a swing pattern such as 1/16th 62% swing.
learn to quantize yourself, hardware won't do all the staff. Imperfectly quantized notes is what makes us humans hey
@@IIeTpOc9H4uK It's a good tool, just like pitch correction. Ableton and others can audio-quantize, and quantization is completely expected from MIDI sequencers. Why not audio loopers.
@@yzimsx coz you gotta learn to play music in-time and in-pitch initially to keep your brain fit. The main principle of loopers for me is that they are fair. You got what you've played. It's not supposed to be easy no.
@@IIeTpOc9H4uK I'm 45 already, so I don't expect significant timing improvements. My timing with a looper is like this, and if that had been in Ableton, I would have audio-quantized the rhythm guitars and bass slightly to make it tighter czcams.com/video/JayJt9RLcB4/video.html
Yes, there’s quantise. Loopop mentions it in his comparison video vs the 600
is this looping machine with sounds or you need a separate sound generator?
1st question I always ask with a new Boss looper - how well does it handle being slaved to MIDI clock?
The original 505 could slave to MIDI clock, it had some advanced software to smooth out jitter. For best fidelity you want the thing recording and playing audio to be the master, though- otherwise it does little nasty time stretching stuff to the audio to keep it in time with an external clock. A lot of people will make their favorite piece of gear, or most expensive piece of gear, or their midi sequencer the master, but it is much cleaner for any midi stuff to slave to the thing doing audio playback, than vice-versa. Only exception would be when you have two things doing audio, like a DAW or another looper.
The 505 mk1 was good with the options for clock and start/stop messages, there were a few options as to when that happened. I settled on having the rhythm track start/stop also start/stop the midi clock being sent out. You could turn the rhythm track down and still use the rhythm start/stop button to get your synced midi stuff going, and it wouldn’t stop if you stopped the loops from playing, only when you hit the stop button on the rhythm track. The 505 does the thing where it is always sending clock, even before and after the start/stop messages.
And there it is.
So the MKII does not have this function anymore?
@@bastarddonthemove i mean..i don't know..but i would be very surprised if it would not
Make 505 the leader
The MKI is one of my favorite pieces of gear. It's also very quick to learn, one of my friends does his noise shows on mine because it's too difficult with his home setup :)
I'd like you to test if the output is jittery if clocked by an irregular source. That was a problem on the old one, with a lot of clock sources.
There are a few high end loopers around at the moment. HeadRush Looperboard, RC 505, Electro Harmonix have one in this space too, but not too sure of model currently. I suspect others. Would be great to see a comparison - features, sound fidelity, user friendliness, etc.
(Allowing for the complexity of these beasts, could be a worthwhile miniseries).
PS. Welcome to the world of strange looping.
