I LOVE the information. But it would feel more authentic if you had remembered the bathrobe.
Hahahha, omg, step 6: Steal a bathrobe! How did I forget the most IMPORTANT step. Lol
HUGE thumbs up for the improvisation section. Well done and replicated.
thanks man! really appreciate that!
Musical improv is about the confidence. There are so many dumb songs written by multiple people, so don't worry about the words. Practice practice. Improv is a muscle. This is cool! Well done!
You’re so, so good at explaining this. Great job dude. Would love to see more
Ty!! I have a few other videos on my channel like this breaking down other marc rebillet tunes!
Great tutorial video! I’m just starting my looping journey so please keep them coming thank you!
MAN... YOU ARE THE MAN! thank you so much for explaining.
Thanks Sammy, I really enjoyed your video. I am a pure beginner in music, trying to get something done with Ableton and Rekordbox. Marc Rebillet was maybe my first "aha" moment when I realized I could have a new hobby. But I'll be honest, the stiffest part is knowing which techniques and instruments are being used. Your video clarified so many things! And it's obvious that funking in 2 minutes requires hours of preparation beforehand, but no at least I know where to start :)
Thanks for that Michele, comments like these mean a lot, I'd like to do a new video but unsure what to do next! I have a couple others where I break down Marc rebillet tunes as well, but looking to do something maybe more original.
Thanks a lot, great video and explanation! Im not looking to copy Marc, just get a deep dive on his performance and you delivered.
Dude thank you so much! Glad I could help set a basis for your looping endeavors!
The musical term for jibberish etc is called Scat Singing, it's a Jazz thing. James Brown and others all did it.
No hate just giving you the term
Haha, i suppose it IS scat singing! Good catch.
Great video! You did an awesome job explaining everything!
Best tutorial I've seen so far! Great job.
thanks you so much for the tips, Sammy !
It's so funny to see someone imitate Marc Rebillet. I understand it's for teaching purposes and just to show what he does. But he really captures a certain insanity and letting loose that's so hard to replicate. Even though it sounded really nice actually and it sounded like Marc. It was still missing oomph and that feeling of "is this man okay" and "dayum I am so jealous yet so happy I am not his neighbor"
Amen, I am not marc rebillet for sure, and I agree I could do a little more with my full chest so to speak. Some more unhinged ballsyness if you will
Very cool! Good analysis and application. Keep up the good grooves Sammy! Doug G
Dude, you are great! Best explanation about Looping in general. Keep it up!
Excellent break down of how Marc likes to loop, man. Enjoyed the video and your take on the topic.
Thanks JD!
Great video bro! Absolutely smashed it ❤
Awesome tutorial
yhx the Algorythm for this, glad to view and listen to it. Think the Number 1 thing of Marc Rebillet is ...himself. I mean the energy of the man, the attitude , etc... If it was just for the music part, maybe we can find " better " elsewhere. That's a big lesson here imo, thoses days, we almost don't care about just music ( or just something else ). It's about a whole package.
I totally agree! excellent point, it really is his whole brand of just being the goofy, intense, and confident personality that he is. It's hugely important to the whole thing!
Holy cow!!!! I've literally watched your videos before!!!! That's amazing. Love this one btw.
Thanks dude man! That's crazy , glad the algorithm works in my favor occasionally!
Excellent content bro!
Thank you for sharing this. I have used loopers for a while but I haven't tried this one yet. This is helpful. Your lesson is great.
Thank you so much!! That means a lot!
You nailed those tonight’s
You are awesome at this. I'm gonna practise on my looper thanks man.
You rock dude! Awesome tutorial! Keep it up :)
Nice man great work on Marc
Thanks dude ! This is so intersting !!
Well played and well explained.. Thanks!
Oh Boy - this is nice explanation into the deep. Thanks for this entertaining showcase!
Thank you for watching! I have a couple other videos where I break down some of his other classic songs, don't hesitate to check those out!
Great video! Thanks for doing that.
Of course! if you want more tips and tricks don't be afraid to check out my other tutorials!
Great explanation!
Been said before but Marc is a very good keys player as well. Good video!
Fun and informative... Happy comb week!
Happy comb week to you too sir!
Thanks for the video! :3 It was really good to see you go, and you have an amazing voice too! :D
damn thanks 1337 priest that means a lot considering my voice is probably my main insecurity. More videos like this to come soon!
Subbed, I love Marc...and you almost have the circled head movement right...It's the other way arround how he does it! And you forgot one very important thing...It's not only all about ritme..Marc is a great story teller too! He is trained in making (Funny, Serious. with funny voices (pitched)...etc.etc..) Dialogs! and his improvisation with the public, and the interaction with them, and let them be a part of his "Journey" I am following Marc from day 1! I listen to him every morning while taking a shower! I see him as a kind of James Brown, with a looping station! LOL! And he is very social with people! That's why a lot of people love him! Love to see more video's of you, you are a very talented guy too, I love that...Keep up da good work, and Keep the Funk alive, smells like poooopy!!! I also am a musician, with lot's of gear including the RC-505, but I am not realy feeling the urge to put video's of myself online, there is only one Marc Rebillet, and I am enjoying it every day! And oh yes..Marc can permit himself to make mistakes! You know why..because he's Marc Rebillet! But I miss the Live shows with callers, and the short hair..I dont like the Jesus look so much hahahaha!
Damn man you seem like an old school fan! I first discovered him when I saw his video for "look at that ass" in like 2017/2018 and you're right, he's just got a magnetic personality for sure. I hope to make a new video but am unsure of what song or topic to go for!
Loved it!! Just got my looper :)) great info and performance Sammy!
Awesome! Ur gonna create some cool music im sure! Thanks for the love!
Absolutely excellent- thank you! Hit us with more! Bookmarked this. 👌
If you saw harry mack on marc rebillet that dude freestyles and never messes up and sounds like he wrote everything hea making up in advance its so crazy
Right? That dude really improvs with intention, super impressed
Man< that's dope, huge thanks!
Thanks. You are the man!
Of course! don't hesitate to check out my other videos like this on my page! There's 2 other marc rebillet songs i break down.
great breakdown!
thanks so much man!!
yooooo you are natural, maaaan!
Thanks dude! Hope you found this video helpful! 🤘
That Electric piano riff! 💥
Thank you brother ! Very helpüful
2 days ago?? Just in time wow. Thanks!
U know it man! Glad u got something out of it!
Excelente explicación amigo! Saludos desde ARGENTINA
Great Input 👍
You explained this so smoothly, thanks ! You gained a new sub :)
Thanks Nico! really appreciate it! I hope to do some more of these types of vids soon since I've gotten such a good response.
Best Mark lyric Ever: "I'll be your little puppy dog, just tell me when to come."
Love it, makes sense.
GREAT Video!
Thanks Nathan! Don't be afraid to check out some of my other wacky tutorials!
Great info
great content man
thank you so much!! appreciate the love!
That was so cool. I learned a lot. Thanks so much for sharing. Just my 1 cent
Hey man, I just really really appreciate that, just trying to have fun and be positive you know? glad you liked it!
Your video was great I really enjoyed it kudos 🎉
Thanks so much!! Glad you got something good out of it
Great video dude
Thanks Cass!!! Pain is eternal. ;)
Fascinating, thank you! youre great too!!
Thanks Anthony! Glad you got something out of it! 🙏
Incredible video! You’re so talanted bro :D
hey thank you that means a lot!
brilliantly explained!
cant wait to do this when i get my equipment.... eventually ahahha
Great!
Thank you so much
Wow awesome video! Can you make one on the basic setup/beginner looping tutorial? I play piano and would love to learn the basics of looping. Looks like so much fun.
Yes I would love to! I need to make a new video anyway and this idea was something I was softballing for a while now
Get it dude haha 7:45 😂 love it
this was great appreciation to each of you!!
Really good! what headphones impedance is recommended for the Boss RC-505 MKII. Do i need a amp/audio interface if im over 80 ohm?
Awesome video Bro!!:))
thanks dude! I'm surprised by how much love im gettin. Hope it helped with your loopin or inspiration!
Cool and informative video, you forgot one crucial element though, and that’s the SOLO!!…Marc often breaks down to a simple beat and maybe the bass, and performs a piano / organ / whatever solo over the top….i think this really helps break the whole ‘loop’ feeling of the song.
You are great Man !
What’s song name starting from “Percusion” part ? So sick !
Excellent like your style, would like to know about your track settings, cool guy!
Way to break it down my man subscribed to your channel...
Ayyy, thanks brother!
This is what i really want to do. I love this so much
heck yeah that's great to here! go out there and do it baby!
@@SammySideFX if i wanna get started, what would you recommend as a decent set up and are there any detailed tutorials or will i have to learn on my own?
@@DaPhreshestKidd I could totally recommend stuff sorry for the late reply. There's plenty of tutorials on youtube but maybe thats what my next video should be is describing a couple different set ups that are possible and price points :)
@@SammySideFX thanks bro. I appreciate it
Such a good video idea. I try my best with two tracks lol
As a matter of fact, I started with the rc 202 and used that for almost 2 years before switching to this and ill happily do a video using a 2 track looper!
How did he learn to play those chord progressions? Thanks for the video! Now I see behind the stage what’s going on :D
yes! I believe these are just two chords A minor and E, but played as inversions. Nothing too complicated, the best part about them is the rhythm he plays them at, and going from minor 3 to major 3 in the chord gives it some spice.
You implied that your samplers software isn't very user friendly. Got a recommendation for a better sampler that is more straightforward? Great video and super helpful. Thank you!
Yeah! I mean, it's software is a little buggy but it's just the cheapest option. I currently have the Roland sp404a but those are basically 600 bucks. This other akai sounds like it could have better software, just unsure if you can import sounds or if it's just a controller. But it's only $270 tinyurl.com/ynsb76de
Hi Sammy! Great video, I subscribed ;)
Is that a Shure SM7B? If so, what's your setup? Do you use an amp or a mixer before going into the RC505? I recently got one myself and I'm trying to figure out how to make it sound good...
I think i want to do a video on my setup and an explanation of a good starter setup for anyone interested in seriously looping. It IS an sm7b, I do have a mixer that all the instruments and mic go through and then run that through the rc505.
@@SammySideFX nice. thanks for your answer :)
Great vid man. In terms of track measures, do you know how he has each track set up?
pretty sure he sets each track to "free"
@@SammySideFX thanks bro. Is there any way to permanently save system settings so you don’t have to manually change them every time you turn it on? For example track measure settings and record/overdub settings?
Good breakdown, well done! Not trying to nitpick, but what you're calling Clavichord is actually a Clavinet sound.
Ope! The more you know!
Great video! Maybe you can give me a tip regarding the loops...
i have the boss MK2 btw
so if you and marc loop it seams the measure of the loop buttons is always like 4 beats or something but you guys can make it in the recording that if it runs through the second or third time it sounds different.
at my loop station the measurement always sets by itself on free (first thing which annoys me because the beats are all different if you not fast enough with stopping or whatever) and secondly it over dubs everything.
Can you understand what i mean? haha
Is it because of the mk2 or are my settings weird? cant find anything nowhere.
I personally do set all the tracks to free but it will sync the track to the first one if you miss hitting the button by a little bit but I just try to do it as close to beat as humanly possible and use the first track to determine how many measures I want to use.
I'd love to see more about how he usees the key's on the board... I'm a guitarist and drummer, and just bought my first midi-keyboard
If you break down the different parts of the song, on the keyboard.... for a begginer, i subscribe :)
I have 2 other Marc rebillet videos where I break down the chords! I'm thinking about doing another video in this series soon!
Wow!! This is so cool. Can you do a tutorial on this with just vocals? I can't play any instruments, lol
Sure! I want to do a video on how to improvise using key words to spark inspiration and show you how how to harmonize using triads!
@@SammySideFX can’t wait to see it! Subscribed 👍
Great video! I recently bought the RC-505 and want to set it up. Can you please explain inputs and outputs to and from the looper please? And how you connect it with the MIDI keyboard? There are barely any videos explaining the setting up of the BOSS RC 505.
RTFM.
cool insite.. is every thing set on free mode or do u think its planned with set amount of bars/measures on a jam like that?
Hey dude! I'm pretty sure every track is set on free. I want to do a quick video where I just show the best settings for the rc 505. Have every track set on free, for the input effects it's kinda whatever you want but I like reverb, transpose, and roll. the output effects I'm pretty sure he has "low pass filter", "vinyl flick" and "beat repeat".
Yes!
Thanks for putting this together and taking the time to make a video on your Marc groove analysis! Now loose some clothes, and you are good to go!
I know! believe it or not when i was in a full band I used to take off my clothes all the time and now that I'm a looper I don't do that as much lol
Great thanks. x
Hi there! Loved the video! Just found out about Marc and I really want to try some stuff like this.
I have a question though, hope you dont mind. The loop station you and Marc use is kind of expensive for me. Are there any other options? Something to get started? Maybe a pedal? I dont know. I use FL Studio to make beats and stuff, was hoping I could use it alongside with a looper or something to start.
And thank you for the video, it was super informative.
Yeah so I originally started with a rc202 which is the 2 track version, u can certainly get it used on eBay for less than 300
@@SammySideFX Thanks!!
Can you use Logic Pro or Mainstage or AKAI MPK MKII as a loop station like yours? Map the keys in a meaningful way somehow?
Yes I can use logic pro as a looper
Hey thanks for the video! I wondering if you could make a video how show how you setup the 505 to work like this would be amazing
Yes!! I think I'll make one soon! Appreciate you checking this out!
@@SammySideFX thanks soo much sammy for the answed, lookinf foward for the video =)
What keyboard would you advise? A MIDI keyboard or something along the lines of a nord?
Depends on if your trying to use a laptop with your setup. You can use any keyboard with good sounds in it as a midi keyboard
Woah! This is gonna save rock and roll!!
Ah, if it isn't my old arch nemesis 😂
@@SammySideFX do I know you? 🧐
question... on that unit, if you make something you really like, can you save it and recall it later? SD card? thanks
Of course! Are we talking about the loop station?
Thanks so much for this! Sorry basic question, was just wondering if you’re using a metronome in your headphones or do you just do it free? Cheers!
I just do it free! Practicing with a metronome is always good, you want to be able to basically feel if the loop is ever off, a perfectly in tempo beat is always going to make the loop strong!
Please don't hesitate to check out my other looping tutorials and subscribe!
@Sammy SideFX deserves more subscribers! ❤
Thanks broskie! That's nice of yah
@@SammySideFX 😄💚👌
thanks mate
Dude, for someone who wants to start with music and someone who loves Marc, this was truly wonderful!
I think there are more people like me who really needs this, Imma stay a while and see if you do more like this :)
Life... if you would like break down piece by piece in even more detail :)
Dang man that's really cool. If there's a specific song you'd like me to break down let me know. I really appreciate the kind words, I'm trying to put another video up just have been busy with work and gigs.
@@SammySideFX
Oh hell yeah! Take ur time :)
Well since I dont really know much about all the details going into this, im just happy hearing you/people explaining what the hell is going on :D
But maybe czcams.com/video/C0apeZO36es/video.html
He does some cool things on that track imo, but anything goes :)
13:18 Would another option - to get away from just repeating the same chord progression - to put, say, a verse progression on track 1, overdubbing say bass, guitar, keys, then on track two record a different (eg. Chorus) progression with the same 3 instruments? Bridge on 3rd even. So many songs only have 1, 2 or 4 bar progressions, wouldn't take too long. I play several instruments, would like to be able to perform covers solo, singing over V,C,B sections I've put down live, just navigating through them hitting, muting, say the verse track when jumping to the chorus.
I have definitely done what your suggesting, I've also just played the verses with just guitar and percussion and then just looped the chorus
@@SammySideFX Thanks for getting back to me, and for the helpful vids.
Do you know of any videos of anyone actually doing what I'm suggesting? Ideally live on a gig, but even just demoing it anywhere.
I'd just like to confirm it's a performance option with instant taps to set up overdubs of different instruments in different sections I can then move between (rather than people paying to watch me fiddle with programming). When I tried to find out by talking to music stores, and even to the local Roland/Boss (in Oz) people, they didn't even understand the question!
thank you for this great vid/tips! - Do you know which software is Marc using? Or other question, which software do you use? I'm quite new to this stuff :p
ok nvm, you already said it... mainstage, anything else maybe ?
@@TecEgg hey man thanks for checking it out and I'm glad you got something out of it!! He uses logic pro/ mainstage on a MacBook pro. I personally outboard my stuff so all my sounds are coming from my keyboard and sampler directly rather than through the computer
Kontakt - native instruments stuff , all dope sampled instruments
Sammy, hopefully you can help me.
I have my Boss rc-505 and Maschine Mikro mk3 connected to my laptop (mac air m1) via USB (mk3 only has usb port and head jack). The 505 on USB: AUDIO/MIDI mode. Mic and headphones connected to my 505.
What would I need to actually record like Marc? Right now, everything recorded in going straight into my head. How are you doing it?
what do you mean everything recorded is going straight into your head exactly?
So my set up is completely outboarded, so all the sounds are coming from the keyboard etc, and not the computer. I'm pretty sure when Marc was recording videos, he had the output of his rc505 go into another laptop that recorded everything.
Hey man! Killer video. That was awesome how you broke it all down. My question is about the way Marc or yourself are able to plug in all your instruments. My guess is an audio interface that has enough inputs for the keyboard, the sampler, and the microphone? Tell me if I'm thinking right here: Connect looper to laptop using the usb/midi cable, then from the looper he connects to an audio interface that has microphone, keyboard, and sampler. That audio interface goes to the computer and then out to the speakers. Correct? Thanks so much for the help!
Thank you man!! The way Marc does it is as such: he has an interface connected to a laptop, he also has his keyboard connected to the laptop as a midi instrument, he has the output of that from the interface into the loopstation, then the output of the loopstation goes to either an amp, another laptop for recording, or whatever you want.
However, the way I like to do it is having everything outboarded, so no midi, so I have keyboard, guitar, mic, sampler, etc going into a mixer, which goes into the loopstation, then the loopstation output goes to an interface, which is connected to a computer.
@@SammySideFX awesome thank you very very much kind sir!
@@SammySideFX is there a way to do all this without a computer
Random question when you do this. What are your measures set at and what are you quantized on?
I don't quantize and the measures are set to free, but that's just personal preference, I believe Marc rebillets does the same
Thanks. Great video.
More more more in this
I have 2 other videos breaking down other marc rebillet songs don't forget to check them out!
