    Engage hasn’t actually been selling well. It dropped off the face of the earth after the first couple months and hasn’t even made the 2 million benchmark, let alone approaching 3 houses, despite having a massive installbase and the nostalgia-baiting.
    I don’t think they’re worried at all about dropping a new game right now, especially since there’s a HUGE drought of games across the industry right now. FE would get more attention than usual.

      The biggest issue with Engage is that the general vibe was more "anime" than what people are used to.

      @@user-be3qc7re9o fire emblem has always been "anime", anime characters with anime tropes, on a typical anime fantasy setting, with a predictable anime story, engage does feel less "serious" than other FE games though... My guess is that engage isn't really a "mainline" game, more like a side game that caters to the long standing fans of the series.

    We already have Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door as our Mario game.
    16:25 Also, Mario vs. Donkey Kong wasn’t a “port”… that was a straight up remake. Aside from only a handful of reused sounds and voice clips (which were NOT compressed this time), everything has been redone from the ground up. A “port” would be something like Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze on Switch. Some new content, but largely the same old game.

  • @Dalexien_

    The fact that Pokémon Presents are used as marketing tool is the precise reason why we are probably not getting any new mainline/remake/remaster Pokémon game on Switch this year: the marketing cycle for a new big Pokémon title starts with the announcement in February and lasts for around 9 months, ending with the release in October/November/December, so if a new big Pokémon game was coming out this year on Switch, they would have announced it in the Presents they held on Pokémon Day, but instead they only announced a new TCG Mobile game coming out this year and Legends Z-A scheduled for a generic 2025. So I would say that there’s a 90% chance that mainline Pokémon skips 2024 entirely, if something Pokémon related comes out this year, I think it would be a spin-off game or some Switch Online stuff.
    The only thing I see TPC doing this year for mainline games, is starting Legends Z-A marketing around the time Nintendo reveals the Switch successor, since the game will most likely come out in the first year of the new console as a cross gen title.

    This is smart analysis, but:
    1)I think the "light" year is exacerbated by a relatively last minute next gen delay and
    2) It's been so long since 3D Mario, that team is oddly idle
    3) With Zelda, Splatoon, Mario Kart, even Luigi's Mansion and 2D Mario have all been active here at the end of the gen
    Looking at that, it seems highly likely that the until-recent plan was to have 3D Mario as the holiday title along with the new hardware, and the slip of one means the slip of the other.

    • @IISuzakuII
      @IISuzakuII Před měsícem +2

      They aren't idle... 3D Mario is given the time absolute time between systems. Plus, mid level staff are most likely in the mix between titles in other studios.

    • @erikharrison
      @erikharrison Před měsícem +1

      @@IISuzakuII I didn’t mean “not working” - that’s bad wording on my part. I meant “oddly silent”.
      I’m sure they’ve been working. It’s the longest gap without a game from that team ever. Nintendo has said that they prefer to keep those games to once a generation.
      That’s why I’m convinced that the launch title for next gen is 3D Mario. They’ve had plenty of time and other bug franchises - Zelda, Mario Kart, Splatoon, even Luigi’s Mansion have all had major support in the last year of the Switch so I don’t believe Nintendo is going to use those as launch games
      If Nintendo planned on launching new hardware this year with Mario, and then slipped the hardware, that slips Mario. You don’t want to double tap 3D Mario within four months of each other so a last minute Galaxy remake or similar seems off the table.
      Whatever the holiday title is, it has to be something in the tank that can be repositioned to take Mario/hardware’s slot. And we should expect the leanest year of the switch gen

    Star Fox is: Nintendo tried so hard, for so long, to make Star Fox a thing. But Star Fox needed concerted narrative polish, not just mechanical polish, to fully work. And, even more than Top Gun, the big "Wait, we have a franchise that fits that" for Star Fox was the "elevated" Saturday Morning Cartoon that started showing up in the 2010s (think Scooby-Doo: Mystery Incorporated, She-Ra: Princesses of Power, or, to mention an original cartoon working on essentially similar grounds, Steven Universe) and Nintendo didn't even really try to bring that energy to Star Fox for a new title. And that's because: They don't have that in them!

      It’s not even “rumored,” it’s almost a guarantee to either be launch or launch window like Odyssey was.
      We had a similar gap after Super Mario 3D World, where the 3D Mario team was awfully quiet after 3D World launched, and after the “NX” was announced and no new Mario was shown, it was all but guaranteed that the next major title was going to be on the next system. Sure enough, October 2016’s Switch reveal teased Odyssey, without formally unveiling it and its title.
      I imagine whenever Nintendo teases the Switch successor, we will see a similar tease for the next major Mario game. It’s only been, what, 7 years since Super Mario Odyssey? 3D Marios used to only take 2-3 years to make before the jump to HD, then Odyssey took 3.5-4 years. @sboinkthelegday3892 Před měsícem +2

      That's QUITE off-base. WF is pretty minor actor in overall nintendo efforts to support indies, without being crucified for promoting "shovelware". And WF is a tiny controversy away from losing the random grace they have as A REAL indie company and not just hated, probably sexist, grifters when that accusation can lose a company's social credit at the drop of a hat.
      Western audiences hate actual open marketplace, or to pay for additional curators like reviewers, instead demanding a lot of value for free. Shops that are exclusive for THEIR tastes, and overestimating their "core gamer" influence in the marketplace.
      Take Steam Deck for example, it sold 3 million next to Wii U's 12 million, but insulated gamer press thinks Steam Deck is a massive disruptor and an indie darling. But even without purchasing WayForward, Nintendo has basically dragged the company out of obscurity since the game Boy color, supporting it to a great extent to LICENSE ip like Advance Wars. Wii U and 3DS erupted and disrupted Shantae into the public eye, but that didn't help make Wii U more successful.
      The "marketing" by supporting indie darlings just doesn't turn into money, because Steam may poach and sell them cheaper in the closed Microsoft markets, inching towards Linux. Imagine that if WF gets the same hate as Pokemon Company, after it becomes "a big corporation" nintendo subsidiary. Without the indie excuses for mediocre quality and Palworld permission to straight-up rip off designs. You would immediately have to stop paying fairly for Shovel Knight plushies and start forwarding that money instead into better graphics, exploiting the merchanidse industry for cash and rely on cheap Chinese merch.
      Much more likely WayForward will close like Vanpool, and handful of them, which might be all employees, could be integrated to existing Nintendo and Namco teams. Purchases like the Luigi's Mansion team are quite rare instances to BE that consolidated place for them.

    I feel like Wind Waker HD and TPHD are more likely than ALbtW. I mean they would be simple to port over, Nintendo could easily charge 50-60 each for them if they wanted, and they’re some of the most beloved Zelda games. And they’re some of the last WiiU games to still be stuck on the system.
    I also suspect that WWHD and TPHD Switch have probably been sitting around finished for a while now as backups in case of a gap in the release schedule, and if that’s true then this year would be the perfect time since the Switch 2 has likely been suddenly delayed.
    I really want Galaxy 2 but I don’t see it happening since it was excluded from the 3D All Stars collection and that was also a limited release. Xenosaga was very heavy on the religious theming and following how Xenoblade 2's dub was handled I could see Monolith using this as an opportunity to rename some things to bring them in line with the Switch Xenoblade titles. Xenosaga was so heavy on the explicit religious references I think it would be hard to fully escape them without changing the story entirely, as one of the main characters was litterally a biblical Saint, but I could very easily see them change terms like "Zohar" being renamed to Conduit/Gate (to bring in line with blade), "Testements" renamed, the years being counted in "TC: Trancend Christ" would find a new name, and especially with the ongoing Israel Palestine war, the planet "Lost Jerusalem" a focal point of the plot, would also be renamed.
    This would also be an excellent opportunity to redub the game because Xenosaga 2 has a different voice cast in the west as well as to tie the games narratively better with Xenoblade, perhaps even clearing up some contradictions between the two, however, I could see them also not doing that as Xenoblade: Definitive Edition did not fully retcon its story to bring it in line with two, instead opting to have the events portrayed differently in 2 to be simply be recalled incorrectly or incomple in Definitive Edition. That's not to say DE didn't add in content to connect it with Xenoblade 2 and the unannounced 3, as its extra story definetly did that and there was one character in the main story who recieved a slight redesign to bring him more in line with Xenoblade 2's lore.

    I really don't see that happening. If anything, we'll get another Mario remaster, as it seems Mushroom Kingdom related stuff is all Nintendo has left in its tank to keep milking.

      Bringing Gamecube games to NSO is tricky because game file sizes got a lot bigger that generation. And NSO has you download all of the games it has for a system together. So a Gamecube NSO app would take up a lot of space.
      My guess is that Nintendo won’t add Gamecube to NSO until the Switch 2. Both because that’s a big selling point for a new system and because maybe the Switch 2 will have a lot more storage space.

  • @dannypalin9583
    @dannypalin9583 Před měsícem +2

    This is my theory. Nintendo are going to use Directs to announce news on their movies as well as their games. This is just a glimpse at the future.
    I'll explain. Nintendo has been capitalising on the success of The Super Mario Bros Movie since its release nearly a year ago. Mario, Luigi, Peach and Donkey Kong have been given special attention. We've gotten remakes of Mario vs Donkey Kong, Thousand Year Door and Luigi's Mansion 2. Peach has been given a new solo game in Showtime.
    I can absolutely see a new 3D Mario, Luigi's Mansion 4, a new Peach and even a new Donkey Kong coming out in the rest of this decade, and for the sole purpose of coinciding with sequels and spin-off movies about Luigi, DK and Peach.
    When The Legend of Zelda movie with Sony comes out, that franchise will get the same treatment.

      Good points. That said, I can't imagine they'll have much to announce on the film front for the rest of the year having already teased the next Mario film and with Zelda still in development. I guess this will all crank up again in 2025.

    • @dannypalin9583
      @dannypalin9583 Před měsícem +1

      @@nintendoforecast Absolutely. This year, if there's any new movie info, it'll be 70% Zelda, 30% Mario. I can definitely see Miyamoto saying that Chris Pratt, Charlie Day et al are coming back. Then he'll confirm whether Yoshi has a celebrity voice actor or not.
      Zelda on the other hand? We could get a first look or a cast reveal. But it'll get a lot more attention.
      But 2025? It'll swing back to Mario, and this is where things get interesting.
      No sooner was a follow up announced, that a leaked storyboard panel was shown on Twitter and taken down within the hour. In the unlikely event you don't have it saved on your files, it was taken from an Illumination artist’s private Vimeo account. The image depicts Mario and Luigi walking through a bazaar and wearing cloaks.
      Needless to say, this one doodle hyped everyone up. Speculation ran rampant. Not only were people saying Daisy was being introduced, because of the desert backdrop, but Mario and Luigi were going on an actual buddy adventure together. That was what the first movie should have been.
      Nintendo or Illumination taking the leak down? On par with shutting the gate after the bull's loose. But that's not to say they won't make the best of what's happened.
      The latter half of 2025 will give us our first look at the sequel. Mario and Luigi sneaking through a market? That'll either be the teaser trailer or a Game Awards clip.

    There is a lot more to take into account when talking about Star Fox and if it will get a new games as nintendos design philosophy for it is different from mario and zelda. Instead of gameplay first as it should be, its gimmick first. If they can't find a unique gimmick that miyamoto thinks will work for starfox then there is no new starfox. StarFox didn't get on the wii because according to miyamoto he couldn't find a unique gameplay mechanic for starfox on the wii and so it didn't happen. StarFox Zero happened on the only because they needed a game to demonstrate and justify the gamepad. So they started exploring and they ended stumbling into making it a starfox game and it coasted them the Wii u, StarFox, and the trust of starfox fans.
    It only gets worse one you realize that not every starfox game is just 64 like some outsiders might have you think. Only half of the games are just the same game remade or reimagined but the other half are different, maybe too different. Every starfox game that is a sequel ended mostly being different from the first game and not like how twilight princess is different from wind waker or something. Its more like twilight princess is different from hyrul warriors different, basically you aren't getting more of what you love but adding some new things that keeps it fresh. StarFox Adventures is a Zelda like game, StarFox 2 is a real time flight sim strategy game with a transformation, starfox command is a turn base strategy game that is lesser then 2, and StarFox Assault which is the closest to feeling like 64 but clearly not 64 in both story and gameplay.
    The long and short of it is that a spin off or another cameo in another game series is only gonna piss starfox fans even more pissed off then they already are. At least Make a new mainline game that isn't sabotaged by gimmicks and doesn't feel like a spin off title. Just like literally every other nintendo IP, Gameplay first.

    Good video, but I think you're overrating Star Fox chances at a new game or even a spin-off there. The last SF game sold baddly, the switch doesn't have a need for a game to Justify a gimmick like the wii u did, and I don't think Nintendo wants a repeat of Metroid Federation Force by making a spin off before a new Mainline game comes out (which ended up getting MFF thrown to the wolves). So I feel it should be closer to a 1% for a new game and a 5% for a spin-off and or camo.

    • @nintendoforecast
      @nintendoforecast  Před měsícem +2

      Since I only do five bands of probability, 10% is actually as low as I go. Depending on whether you count Star Fox 2 and Battle for Atlas, 1-3 of the last ten years have had Star Fox games so I think a ~10% chance in any given year feels about right though.

    • @rossruss6901
      @rossruss6901 Před měsícem

      @@nintendoforecast I don't count Battle for Atlas since it's a new IP that's on other systems made by Ubisoft, it's just the Switch version has Star Fox as Nintendo-only content basically like how Shovel Knight had Kratos only in the PlayStation version of the game. Still, you could still count SF2 since it was a new release to the SNES Mini (even if it was a mostly finished game from the 90s). So 5% is still as high as I can see it going.
