    It's definitely a sign that Amazon Games spent a good chunk of money on creating views for that trailer, whether it was through CZcams's official promotional systems or via some kind of 3rd-party solution. I will say that my understanding for how CZcams views work is that for an ad to count as a 'view', a CZcams user has to either let the ad finish (if it's < 30 seconds in length), watch at least 30 seconds of the ad (if it's longer than that), or click on the ad. It seems wild that so many people would let the ad play for so long without skipping it, or click on it without many people bothering to subscribe afterwards, but I guess there's just a shit-ton of people watching CZcams all the time.
    The fact that it hasn't had any obvious impact on their channel's subscriber-count, or other engagement metrics, suggests that it was a waste of money, just like their Summer Game Fest ad-buy. With all the money they've spent trying to 'trick' players into believing that "New World: Aeternum" is a new game, you have to wonder if they should have just invested those resources into *actual game development* instead.

  • @fyngolnoldor4891

    Your explanation makes sense, I can absolutely see why AGS would place their trailer as an ad: they already knew their interest for anything New World related was at an all-time low and thus organic discovery on CZcams would be bad anyway. This way, they can target an audience that wouldn't normally watch their trailer AND get their view count up making it look like there's more interest for the game.

    I read a lot of the comments on X/Twitter about their announcements and looked at the people who were posting positively... some of them looked like they could be bots/paid positive comments based upon where else they posted and their comments elsewhere. Truly sad AGS decided to make enemies of their current loyal customers instead of bring us along side by side to make the game a better financial success

    I feel like botted trailer views sums up of my experience playing the game. I've but 2k+ hours into NW and I've always had this nagging suspicion that numerous players were actually AGS employees or individuals sponsored by AGS to play. I think if AGS' New World budget ever leaks, we would see a financial situation similar to the Rings of Power. Crazy amounts of money wasted on hype and nonsense no one needs or wants. I like the gameplay, but the commercialization/monetization of New World, imho, sucks eggs.

    It shows you the priorities of management. Instead of spending that money on content and earning free press from the content and creators and the fans they are putting it into marketing. If they don't get on better terms with the pc players before the relaunch that launch is going to be poisoned by bitter and disillusioned players. Give me a queue-able or skirmish war mode so everyone can have fun in the 50 50 wars and you get thousands of players back. New World's best feature is stupidly limited and gate kept by a small amount of players. New Worlds problems are all self inflicted.

    I've also been confused by the discrepancy between Steam Charts and NWDB. There's been around 1k difference for several years. Even when the player numbers were high and now at an all time low, still 1k. I'm pretty sure there's not over 20% players sitting at the character screen all day. The more likely scenario is Amazon having their employees stay logged on all day and night to boost the player count. I can't prove it, but something is rather fishy. 🐠

      The consoles link to a version of the trailer that they host themselves. Similarly, IGN and other big gaming sites have their own version on their channels. I don't know if those places can monetize the trailer, or if they do it just so they can get their own detailed metrics for viewership in order to decide what to promote or write articles about.

    I enjoyed my 55 hours.
    If I get get that out of the game again with my xbox friends then fine
    I already have eso and such. I don't need an endless content game to add onto my limited SSD
    100 hours in a game is worth it to me. It's about the journey not the destination. When I get to end game and get bored of it, I move onto the next game. It will be X amount of hours spent having fun with my friends

      You will change your viewpoint when you find game that you want to invest more of your time. For some it's rust, others will play wow and some new world. But games are build on that certain playerbase because if you have said playerbase you can still work on game, run new expansion which will grab another people with new content that will be willingly to play it. But if game dies because you shit on your exisiting playerbase, nobody will ever buy another expansion for mmo that have playercount of 200 players.
      Amazon SHOULD care about this kind of loyal playerbase but they are not gamers. They are developers with similar view on game as you and that's what kills new world the most.

    • @dumflex5895
      @dumflex5895 Před měsícem

      I think most pc players who wished to continue with an mmo experience have stopped playing, unsubscribed from any AGS reddit/youtube/digital media places and are moving on to other games now. Probably still rightly frustrated with the company (and may vocalise this) but the game is no longer for us now. Too many good new games coming out to worry about this one any further and certainly to invest any further time into it. What I find strange, AGS are launching NCSOFTS MMO come September, a month prior to this launch. I do wonder whether they're hoping the old pc players will go to Throne and Liberty over Aeternum. Either way console players will get their 100 hours as you say, doubt they will spend much more than that so the whole crafting/trading post/seasonal content will be irrelevant. Who knows and at this point as im no longer playing who cares. Tragic shame. Intereste dto see other games covered though DukeSloth, enjoyed your content!

    Someone could be botting the account trying to get it suspended. It's a waste of money,
    It happens to smaller content creators, but the difference here is likely AGS has protection in place that other accounts cannot get. Typically, they'll bot a content creator and the algo tanks their views pretty easily by de-ranking the video. I'm going to guess AGS is some sort of contractual customer and they're protected from that, so this is the side effect.
