- New World has been proclaimed dead many times before, but how are things actually looking after the negative feedback to the New World: Aeternum announcement? Is this really the end for New World? Is it dying? What can the stats tell us and what other info do we have? And would firing Scot Lane really fix the game?

It's crazy how almost immediately after this video was posted, the Forged In Aeternum: Q&A was released that makes things seem even more dire for New World. Their unwillingness to provide a roadmap and their admission that the current game will get no support until NW: A is released... everything is symptomatic of a game without a future.
They did promise the Roadmap once NW:A is released
And the worst part is that there won´t be any content until 15th october, not even season 6 :S

We are logging in for about an hour a day and chatting while we kill rabbits and talking about what we are going to do next..what game. We played daily as a group since beta.
i have a strong feeling that new world is not going to do well on console
Same. There can be a lot of farming / grinding in this game... I don't buy mats off the tp and do my own gathering. I often duel monitor and have a video going on my other screen. I think it would be really dull to spend hours farming stuff on a console.
The ones that stay playing the game will pvp and pretty much nothing else, I believe.
It will take about 2 months until the console plebs are caught in the same "Spam OPR 24/7 because there is nothing else to do"-loop that PC players were in for the 2 years and the game is going to be just as dead as it is right now.
The concurrent player numbers should increase after a ‘huge’ announcement, one would think. Understandably it was a console announcement, but I consider the numbers staying the same an L for AGS here. I would think players would be getting prepared for interesting content on the horizon if it was a good announcement.

There's an active group of players on Isabella and El Dorado that work cross-faction to repel Invasions. It's more about the community than the game at this point.
The game died a while back. Everyone still playing has been Weekend at Bernie'sing it.
If EverQuest can survive on less than 1000 concurrent players, new world will be fine....

i quit before th expansion after AGS just didn't bother fixing the game breaking issues with some classes , perks and hackers in OPR / wars.
It really doesn't matter who is to blame, we now have the definitive conclusion that AGS as an entity will never be able to turn New World into a main competitor like we once thought. Underwhelming content once a year and a semi-decent trailer that people react to with lukewarm hypelevels is all this game is going to be for the rest of it's existence. They had a ton of chances to push the game into the topspots it had the potential to sit in, but they just never got off the ground for a multitude of reasons. If you plan to play the game casually as your second or third game, that's totally fine, but nobody should expect this game to be their primary MMO longterm, because that's just not viable anymore.

Something that I find disappointing from the community is the hate upon the dev team
The things that we are mostly mad about is the bad communication, and the lack of content. I really doubt both these things happen because of the devs.
People should be mad at the CMs and the deciders, who decides what to put money on, and one to ignore.
Harrassment upon "devs" is very common in many games, I wish it could stop
"devs" is typically used as a blanket term in reference to the studio at large (i.e. - development studio), not specifically 9-5 employees doing their best within the constraints put upon them. this is most likely why scot and katy are being singled out more. when talking with friends we all agree that david, as a lead, seems to have a genuine passion for the game and players.
I'm in the camp of "I was thinking about coming back but now thoroughly decided against it." Their announcement and all the follow-up has literally convinced me to not even install. I'm in several MMO communities and guilds and I can (anecdotally) say there are SO many people in the same spot as me just waiting for New World to live up to its potential - that liked the base game but wanted more, new, revamped systems, etc. They don't get excited over the slow progress and recycled content. I don't know a single person that sees "solo trials" as something they would ever want to do. They want MORE group content, not less. More things that make it feel like a living world. They watch the updates and are consistently disappointed.
But I guarantee if AGS actually put together something truly compelling, they'd capture at least 1/10th of their original players. They just haven't done it is all.
Scot told PC players to wait 7 freaking months knowing well there wont be anything for them for a whole freaking year!!! How evil can one be? And when asked why he did this as first question on QA video, he say well we needed clear message for new players..... so why give promises to pc players 7months ago. Ridiculous.

I commented on a previous video that Delakron got fired, but most likely the guy left running away from what New World has become after watching the latest Q&A, where the dev team seems to live in their own universe in their heads.

Ahoy! If the game was coming to XBOX gamepass and playstation plus for free on Oct 15 it would at least bring some hype to the fresh servers, but with no such thing happening and the game at $80 I doubt one server will get full
Love your content, however, with this last update, I have decided it's time to move on, 1750 hours, 5 lvl 65's geared, and I'm done, I uninstalled.
Scott said years ago he did not want to release NW when it released and thought it needed a few more years of work. Everything we have put up with is what happens when you try to limp along a live service game while trying to fix it, and it got to a point they had to snap a line push the development into the new engine etc.. That's what we see today. People forget the most valuable resource amazon has right now as they insist that this engine is developed is players using the engine and fixing things and making more developers who are familiar with the engine.
However, the console launch is doomed because they have failed to address Territory control which will drive 90% of new players away in the first few months, then server merges will get rid of another 90% of the remaining players. It's an exercise in insanity.
The new video basically put legacy servers on notice. They will probably become completely dead because all the new console players will choose a fresh start server. The pc players who don’t quit will also make a new character on fresh.
Legacy will most likely die or be dead until real content is released for players to return to original characters.
Imagine if a studio in Romania will buy the rights to New World in a few years and turn it into one of the most successful MMO's . Wouldn't that be ironic :))

Game looks great, lifeskills are satifying and the " walking simulator " was kinda great, i enjoyed it but since launch all the bad decisions, lack of care for players well being.
Nah man i'm for the first time ever and i'm 27, so disgusted that the game turns out this way and will probably be shut down in a year or two with not much more content.
It feels like Amazon game is a fresh out of school beginner studio that has no fcking clue what to do to make players happy ( even tho we've been telling them since beta test )

I used to spend hours walking around looking at the landscapes and had a few thousand hours of fun with it. When it got to the point of not being able to get in a competent group for the sandwurm, I uninstalled. I think one of my reviews was titled something like 'Visual Masterpiece, Mechanical Shitshow'.
Scot Lane is the game director. If someone else is directing him, then he’s not the game director.

The lack of any new content is definitely a blow. MMOs can take a long time to die, for me personally NW is over once something that appears more interesting launches. That doesn't seem to be happening this year, unfortunately. NW isn't bad and I still enjoy playing it but the slow progress (or worse, the constant return of old bugs) is disheartening.
Don't give up yet. In 4 months they will post a video where will tell that in June 2025 they will post a teaser video with the date of a future video where they will respond to the community.

New world unfortunately died for me personally shortly after the ROTAA. I leveled two characters, and maxed out my main. I'm really sad that it doesn't have anything to offer me anymore because I did grow a community, and made friends with many of the content creators that stream(d) new world daily.
Ultimately why I don't play anymore is because there is little to no value in gear that is acquired from running dungeons. Due to it being possible to roll bis, and 80% of the thing you pick up being automatically bound to your character, despite that not being the way the game worked prior to the patch.
The second main complaint I have is that repeating the seasonal events is not rewarding. There use to be a lot of incentive for me, to just sit and kill the yheti for hours and hours, but when the devs see that people are grinding something they remove the motivation to grind it. By limiting rewards per day, how much of something is gained, or what stuff costs.
The devs broke the game play loop for me. And they killed new world a long time ago.
But that can't take away the friends I made along the way, so I have them to thank for that.
Scott is def not the one pulling the strings, he is the fall guy and the devs are all just collecting they check. It's obvious we would all probly do the same in their shoes but as customers we still have a right to display how we feel. Only way thing "might" change.

I've been a committed player since launch, one of those annoying people who always defended the state of the game and the value proposition it offered. I still log in just now and then to keep the account maintained, but I had been counting on this huge announcement to breathe some life into the game and reinvigorate my interest. I was, to put it mildly, disappointed. I'm not uninstalling yet, but TBH, I'm shifting my attention to Star Citizen and don't honestly think I'll be coming back much. Too bad. It's a beautiful fun world, but I just don't see much reason to stay. I still recommend that folks who are New World-curious give it a chance, but this is not one of those games that's going to live for a decade or more, unfortunately.
I recommend you all just enjoy your summer doing other things and come back in Oct. The console release will likely be a huge success, since there is no other game like this available on console, and we as veterans can enjoy the increased population. See ya at the beach.
@DukeSloth - I agree but you are also no different than those 'the end is nigh' baiters. Love your content, but you know why there is this influx right now. We are still owed expansion content are we not? I bought it, I expected it and it was never received. Ive heard the argument brimstone was free so be happy with that you have. Those same players have now changed their tune. As you, and many it stems from disappointment for the very much achievable progress in game. Worst part is it never really arrived and im presuming the pay for expac was solely to fund the new console and cross platform game soon to be released. Also as a second thought, there is no guarantee they will release any more content other than cross platform on October the 15th, as weve all seen before on updates. There is no trust here, there's no content here. The pc community is still live from the MMO aspect only at this stage. Bonds made, fun had and sociable interaction. No one plays this as solo now, its due to community where the devs couldn't fill that gap. Sad too see, wish i had a game to come back too. Safe to say its business over quality content every day with these 'politicians'.
I really dont think Console will be that great. Console players are more flippant and have less patience than pc players to bugs, broken game play and miss sold content. Just look at cyber punk 2077 on launch. Secondly the graphical game play trailer for the console release look way worse that the 3 year old pc release. Whole thing is tragic.
I say all this with a bit of a tear as id hoped the group I made friends with through new world, id re-join. But out of three companies 200+ strong active players, I can say hand on heart AGS be lucky to keep 10% of that group. And I have no intention to push it to fruition. What the game and the devs burn.
People act like the game isn't good with 1000's of hours in it. Always hilarious. I had SO much fun in New world when it came out for `1000 hours or so. I'll come back for every expansion just because. I think AGS actually did the smart play here. There are 100 million+ console users. The game needs players more than it needed new content barely anyone plays. I can't stand Scott Lane, Katy, and Dave they should have been fired a long ass time ago. This game has been mismanaged from the start. The number one requested weapon is daggers and they are still not in development. That alone says a lot about the management of this game.
I'm not going to miss Scot if he is replaced. If nothing really changes, then the same death spiral could happen again with console players. Thumbs up for great videos.
I'd play but since June 5.2.0 update it hard crashes freezes my machine after about 1 minute in game every time. I have 1900 hours in game, first time an update did this.
Every update caused some kind of bug with mine. I spent literal days trying to unf--k them.
This has happened to me in 2 or 3 previous updates, but I'm fine now 🤷♂️

Yep, everyone talks about how great it'll be with more players, but everyone ignores the fact 99% of them will be gone within a year.

Since their first content update messed up a lot of PC players I had so much fun in this game then boom expansion killed it.

"Will our characters be deleted" Are you serious right now? Do they actually think we asked that at all? Everyone abandon ship, literally go play any other mmo and you'll have a better time. We're basically getting no content for a whole year. Unless you call the most recent "season" content with the small ass story and a dungeon. This is pathetic and those developers should be ashamed of what they're doing. Nobody can excuse them for this fumble, i truly hope it does not succeed.
Everyone's overreacting. Huge population injection coming from PS and XB will ensure that the game lives a bit longer. They do need to get some none noob content coming through.

My brother in christ. Theres an average of 62 million daily steam users , this game is getting 10k player's to play a day if that. Im not good at math but 62 million is way more then 10k especially for mmo. Max cope detected. This game is fucking dead
