    Love that lubretta attachment, actually a south African company called Ryder that developed, they must have given smoove a license to use. So freakin convenient.

  • @dropbaran
    @dropbaran Před 4 měsíci +44

    As far as Smoove, remember to (1) let it dry overnight and (2) thoroughly degrease the chain before first use. If you skip either, the lube will not work

      I've had a great deal of success with Silca's wax and supplementing it with their Super Secret. But I love the bottle idea here. Is the bottle refillable and will it work with Super Secret? I don't use the Silca stuff on my g'kids bikes, I can't keep up with it for that many bikes. I would try Smoove on theirs and refill the bottle with Super Secret for me.

    If lubing a chain on an e-bike always isolate the battery as the motor can start up as a response to the motion of the pedals even if it’s “off” obviously not all models do this, but it’s quite scary when they do.

    • @user-hf7jp2lt5x
      @user-hf7jp2lt5x Před 3 měsíci

      @doesnotcompute6078 they usually have pedal torque or motion sensors. It's a response to the pedal motion that can tell the controller that you want to move.

    I know it is implied, but probably best to make it clear that Smoovlube should be used in conjunction with or instead of immersive waxing. Not a good idea to mix it with wet or dry lubes. I also agree with the comment about the new applicator, which seems to me to lube parts of the chain that don’t need lubing. I have used Smoovlube in the past, but have recently moved over to the Silca wax based products which are highly thought of.

    A friend of mine just bought a gravel bike with the new GRX 12-speed groupset and to be frank it's a total ball-ache. Comes with a 10-36 cassette with big gaps between the cogs but if you want to use a narrower range cassette from the 12-speed road range you only get an 11 tooth sprocket at the top end. What's that all about Shimano? Just to cap it all you have very little choice in the chain rings as well as you need special ones to go with the new HG+ chain. I've got the old 11-speed GRX and I can change the gearing to suit the sort of riding I am doing. Put me right off Shimano I must say.

      I second the Park Cyclone tool rec. They start around $25-ish (CM-5.2 or 5.3), up to over $100 for the metal "bike shop" version, CM-25. I upgraded to the metal one this year because their Cyclone chain cleaning system works so very well and my original plastic one had a lot of use. People complain about the plastic ones breaking, but mine lasted a long time with reasonable care.
      I fill it with Zep citrus degreaser and 4-5 cleanings gets the chain to 99% of new. You won't believe what a good job it does. While the chain has the degreaser on it I use some brushes to clean the cassette. After all is clean rinse with the garden hose. I dry with an air compressor after. My bike is put away for the winter now, and after a through cleaning anyone would look at the drivetrain and think it's brand-spanking new.
