    Could I just say that what you said about being a schizophrenic is in no way a reason to be a serial killer and that it is more likely they will hurt themselves is so refreshing, it’s the first time someone has showed a true understanding of schizophrenia, I have even been shut down for saying this on another true crime you tubers channel. It really upsets me how people suffering with schizophrenia are portrayed in the media, my partner is schizophrenic, takes his meds and has a wonderful life and is a beautiful human, fan now for life!! But without telling Ed that he was going there to live, so when his Dad and step family left, they left Ed behind without any warning to the boy.

    Emma, how do you mentally prepare for these stories. I have worked in emergency rooms and seen so much abuse in my life. I pray that after doing these episodes, you can go home and cry to someone you LOVE so dearly, to relieve the insanity of these EXPERIENCES. Eight PEOPLE were BRUTALLY MURDERED. I am against the death penalty, who or what purpose does it serve, but can a person be taught remorse for others??? I can only think of cowards, getting caught is not enough. Prison is a place for them to suffer . . . . Be well Ms Emma. Most sincere prayers and PEACE. 👍💗🙏😓🌻✝

Then go home & turn it back on again for your family. The hardest part- after the death is seeing the pain of the families ❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹❤️‍🩹🙏🙏🙏

    I was surprised to hear you say you weren’t familiar with Kemper. Thanks for looking into this one for us. The fact that he didn’t clue on that police officer that pulled him over on his way back to the apartment with the bodies shows how charismatic and smart he really was.
    I’ve watched all his interviews. This is strange to say but Ed reminds me of my Dad - without all the killing obviously. So I agree with you how Ed has this “warm” side about him he can really put on. Wild to think that’s the same man who put his mother’s vocal chords in the garbage disposal 🙃

    Probably the best documentary on Ed Kemper I have ever watched. I have listened to an audio book he narrated having no clue it was him or ever thinking who was the narrator. The audio book was narrated perfectly and it was very pleasant to listen to. So if he could narrate so well on top of his communication skills and how much he knew about psychology it is entirely possible some of his victims thought he was just a gentle giant only to learn he was a monster.

      It was all part of his act, basically I don't think he felt any emotion but the only control he had after he was caught was to try and change how people viewed him... Hence all the 'helpful' behaviours he displayed. All fine for the police to be 'friends' with him when they're not a potential target, if they were a female student hitching a ride he'd change within the click of anyones' fingers.

      Right, he is such an enigma and the dichotomies within his personality and mental processes are really interesting and bizarre and one of those cases where it's almost unbelievable that he could be such a monster and yet such a kind hearted human being that went so wrong like how did the two how are both of those able to reside within the same mind body and soul in perfect harmony almost that's what has always blown my mind because it really does seem like both parts extreme pirates of the human personality are balanced perfectly within him and the clarity of recognizing both parts of those traits within him is even more bizarre you know most people recognizing the more darker and macob side of their personality would not act on it yet she chooses to without regret or remorse and that makes it even more macabre

      @@Quin_79 yes absolutely, I do wonder because of his exceptional intelligence whether the kind side of his personality would have been the dominating influence if he was not abused by his mother. Most of the victims were female, he doesn't seem to harbour as much hatred towards men which could also be a reason he was so compliant in jail, less females around to trigger that vicious side to his personality. Or possibly he simply was given the right medication to help control his emotions better. He's definitely an enigma, but don't all serial killers love to be that, how much is in his control? He's too intelligent , he'd run rings around me for sure and pretty much anyone else I can think of... Apart from Columbo lol 😂

So why not be done with it and save the extra oxygen at least that's how I have come to interpret his take on on the ration some of the rationale behind why he did what he did but at the same time he recognizes that this is not even an appropriate rationale nor is and acceptable thing to be considering doing and ultimately playing out and as I said before the the two dichotomies of you know the extreme ends of the personality and then you have that finite clarity of recognizing that he is capable and and completely devoid of anything when he and while he's capable of doing such atrocious things which is in stark contrast to the gentle brilliant kind compassionate Giant who knows better and that I think what would have been interesting to see is had he had a female that was able to treat him the way that two initial FBI agents and then the subsequent doctors over the years but those two agents mainly had there been two female agents who were able to connect with him like those men did I think it would have been interesting to see how he would have interacted with them under the controlled setting while being medicated and not having the appropriate means to conduct his normal operandus modi or modi operandus so that's the one thing I have always and and I have actually had dreams about it and thought that it would have been a very interesting thing to see how he would do with a female agent that treated him no differently than the male agents that he grew so fond of and you're absolutely right at the end of the day he's going to dance dance circles around the majority of anybody that is placed in the room with him and that's due to the extremely high IQ and then you take on the fact that he has that almost inhumane not inhumane but otherworldly ability to hold within his own mind body and soul the two contrasting aspects of evil and good and the clarity and the rationale and the understanding of both of those and the complex ability to balance those so evenly at least while he was incarcerated clearly when normal everyday people struggle to find just your average baseline to function in life and to be okay so to find someone like Ed Kemper who has gone above and beyond and been able to tap into it in such a dare I say intimate way is terrifying on several levels but at the same time makes you want to sit down and ask how and give him the respect and the sense that he is able to do that and and make you want to know how he's able to do that because if he is able to do that then therein lies the potential for other doctors and an agents and whatnot to potentially help people who struggle with finding that baseline and finding a balance so I babbled long enough

      @@Quin_79 yeah! I mean I felt he was displaying a certain pride about little cues he would give such as looking at his watch in order to show the ladies he was in a hurry to get somewhere and that obviously meant that they felt rushed into a decision about getting into the car and if he's in a hurry to get somewhere he's less likely to be dangerous. When I watched that clip I did feel he was proud of thinking about that! I just don't get certain aspects though, like he was feigning being absolutely disgusted with himself as if he didn't have control over the murders when it happened when he clearly was in a sound state of mind to be performing cues like the watch "trick" highly organised. It really does make me think that the compassion is an act as he remembers details very vividly so that discounts any theory of another personality coming forward also. I just don't see the shame that he should have if he's truly compassionate and also he's so compliant?! Where's all that anger gone?!

      Have you ever seen the Biography interview with Joel Rifkin ? That's another one that makes you think "Well he's really articulate and friendly and funny." Then you need to give yourself a mental slap for thinking it. But he also blames himself and no one else and takes full responsibility for what he did which is almost unheard of with serial killers. Even Richard Ramirez tried to pin his killings on Satan.

      Whatever bad things people could say about her, she took him back in when he was let out of the hospital at 21, and she let him move back in with her when he went broke. She was under absolutely no legal obligation to do that. From age 18 onward she could have disowned him but she didn't. Say what you will about her, but she had a sense of duty, loyalty and decency. Otherwise Ed would have been homeless on the street.

    Kemper’s IQ was close to 140. He was a highly organized killer. Ed actually did test runs where he’d pick up hitchhikers just to see if he could get them alone. Ed actually said in an interview with the FBI, “Would you get in a car with a guy who looked like me?” He’s a fascinating study into the deprived mind of a warped individual.

      That's not how all their warped work, the acts after death most of the time are routed in humiliating the dead, but also shocking the finders, I mean all you have to do is look at what he did to her body to see that... Also to a certain degree I think he feared his mother, especially her opinion, I mean he put her vocal cords in the dispenser! A dead body may not be an emotional reaction to humiliation, but a dead body doesn't criticize, talk or have opinions either, which is the most important thing to Kemper

    Great take on this case, Emma! I am very glad to finally hear someone question Ed's story about his mother. That particular scene before he killed her, when he says she derided him that he might want to spend the night talking now always struck me as odd. I am glad you pointed that out. It totally means that they used to have long talks - in fact, this guy seems to be extremely loquacious and I doubt he got that only after he was arrested. Plus he loves to self analyze himself to bits and I can easily suppose he did that with his mother.

    • @coryhawley738
      @coryhawley738 Před 3 lety +3

      from what i know he did have a lot of those talks with his mother. it would consist of him trying to understand his mother and himself, he would try desperately to communicate with her and form a relationship but it would always end with her berating him and abusing him which would as he got older escalated into fights, after their fights he would go and kill

      Maybe, but she was also horribly mean, verbally abusive and demeaning to his father as well before they eventually divorced. His father actually preferred dangerous missions in the army to staying at home with his wife. Based on what I read, she viewed men as vile useless creatures. Her next husband left after a short while and dropped dead from heart issues. I’m really surprised Emma didn’t touch more on this.
