How to Perform: Transabdominal Ultrasound

- This video I had to do for a project to showcase how we perform a transabdomjnal ultrasound to my school’s protocol! So please do not criticize the way or order this exam is in. Every sonographer scans differently.
Many protocols are different so keep that in mind. This protocol may not be the same as other as far as the order however all of these images are required in this exam.
The purpose to perform a TA ultrasound may be to assess the uterus for any anomalies or pathologies such as fibroids or growths. Also pregnancy can be seen as well in a TA ultrasound. You can also use this to evaluate the ovaries for many reasons such as for cyst or ovulation by looking at follicles, etc.
This will give you an idea on what goes in a regular exam room and what images you’d be taking. This exam also goes hand in hand with an exam called Transvaginal exam which may come secondary to a Transabdominal exam. This can give a more clear view when some things are difficult to see on top.
Yay! I love this. I hope to start the ultrasound program next year. This is awesome. More videos pleaseeee☺️☺️☺️ This makes me so excited for my future career goals.
Love it! Just learned how to do this in my sonography program! ☺
I’m just doing OB/GYN this semester and about to comp on ENDO this really helped thanks!
Love this video! I am starting my OB rotation next semester and I will use your video to practice!
this video just helped me sketch my images for a TA scan thank you!!!
I love your channel!!! I’m a sophomore in high school rn and I’m seriously considering becoming a sonographer. You’re videos are very helpful. :))
please keep these coming!! i’m taking my entrance exam and hear if i get in.... if i do... these make me even more excited .... if i don’t .... i’ll keep trying
fingers crossed! good luck
Love the step-by-step instructions! In future videos, it would be really helpful if you also indicated with a cursor or labels what you're identifying in each ultrasound image (e.g. iliac vessels, etc.). Thank you so much!
This is so helpful 👏🏻.. please more techniques videos like this for beginners like me 🥲🙏🏻🫶🏻Thanks
Great work!!
Awesome job! Thank you so much for making this video :)
My pleasure!
More of these please 😍
Hello
Can u upload vedio telling what question should we ask the college adviser if we are planning to do 2 year diagnostic medical sonography program
This is a great informative video! Would love to see one on Abdomen or Thyroid protocol! 🤩
Excellent video thank you so much ❤
Thanks ❤
Hi Kristy! I recently started watching your sonograghy vids and I love them! I learn so much important things before starting my career. I'm currently in my DMS program and will graduate next October and I'm very excited and nervous! Great job on your vids and hopefully watch more of them :)
good luck to you!!!
In the protocol I have, the endometrial stripe is still present in the transverse fundus image.
Can this type of ultrasound tell if you have any kind of cancer? Ovarian cervical etc?
please can you tell me how i can download and see offline?
Great
I have a question: can endometrial cancer be seen by transabdominal ultrasound?
Maybe this sounds kinda dumb, but before you started the program did you have a hard time figuring out what was what on the monitor? If yes, did it get easier to read throughout your program?
oh yes! it definitely gets easier. when you start the program, they will explain to you how the anatomy is on the person compared to on our screen. There are rules and steps in understanding how it looks on the screen! dont worry! it was so confusing at first!
Kristy Le I was also worried about this but was too afraid to ask. I always said “how can they tell!?” Thank you for your response! 😅
As someone who is as well in the Ultrasound program, yes it was definitely weird seeing the screen for the first time. I would see my teacher always point out the organs with ease, and I was like "dude how?". But it gets easier to where you know what things look like and are. So don't be afraid, in the beginning it's hard to decipher what things are but just take pictures if you're allowed to study some images, know where things are anatomically located and you'll be a pro 😊
Emely Silva thanks so much for your reply! I appreciate knowing I’m not the only one who was confused at first when reading the monitor:)
@@KristyDMS Hello! I have a question: can endometrial cancer be seen by transabdominal ultrasound?
And other womb cancers?
Perfect !
No adnexa images? Or doppler of the ovaries?
Great Vidio How big is the urinary bladder?
I am doing 4 years degree program of radiography and imaging technology. Will the hospitals allow me to do usg?bcz in our country Pakistan only MBBS doctors can perform USG with specialization in Radiology.
im not quite sure
Do you measure the width measurements or does the computer tell you? The number
you put the calipers from start to end and the machine will calculate it through cm or mm
Kristy Le thank you for replying 😊
Great info! Now I know that the doctor did my ultrasound completely incorrectly at the ER. She told me to empty my bladder before the procedure 🤭
Oh wow!
Was the doctor performing a pelvic or an abdominal ultrasound
Because it’s not necessary to fill your bladder for an abdominal scan unless you’re doing pelvic with it
@@maham1766 mine was pelvic exam, the sonographer didnt tell me to drink water first😭
The bladder can be filled and also after they are done, they will have you empty it and do it again.
On average, how long does an exam take?
depending on which exam. some can take 30-45 mins. some can take 10 if its simple and a small body area!
I wish my ovarian ultrasounds could be done like this 😥
Have yo thought about getting your MRI certification ?
nahh thats a diff imaging modality. it never caught my interest. MRIwould be more for radiology tech. ultrasound i feel like is completely different than the other modalities.
Hi doctor plz can u clear my doubt plz plz reply me. I had my transabdominal ultrasound and transvaginal ultrasound. They both came clear. I have abnormal bleeding but my doubt is I didn't drink water exact 32 oz water before my test. I drank 2 cups water before half n hour my test. Was that ok hopefully it didn't effect my transabdominal ultrasound result plz reply me doctor
Can a ultrasound tech become a radiology technologist if they was to get burnt out of doing ultrasounds?
i believe those are completely different professions and programs. i know a few rad tech that cross train into it but you can go from ultrasound to radiology without a whole new training. different imaging modalities!
@@KristyDMS when say whole new training are saying I won't have to go back to school if I wanted to do radiology tech?
The doctor and patient looked like sisters.
People who bitch and whine about the pressure then go get an MRI or CT
